Firing AV is a stupid move by Gillis!
In retrospect, you are probably right. I wasn't sold on Alain when the Rangers named him HC, but I watch practically every game and I can't remember the last time NYR played such an up-tempo, entertaining brand of hockey.

A lot of guys have really emerged - Zuccarello, Kreider, Brassard, Pouliot, John Moore, to name just a few, in AV's system. And having 3 stud D-men in McDonagh, Girardi and a healthy Marc Staal, and a world-class goalie in Lundqvist has covered up a lot of young mistakes. It's a team that looked stagnant under Torts ... good enough to make the playoffs, but not nearly good enough to challenge the likes of Boston and Pittsburgh in the East.

I've seen enough Ranger collapses over the years to know they could easily flame out in the first round, but for the first time in a while there seems to be enough offensive ammo under AV to make a bit of a run. Sure do need to get McDonagh back and near 100 per cent for the playoffs, but it's nice to have some optimism - albeit, cautious - going into the playoffs for a change.:thumb:

Tortorella is a terrible coach and should never have been given a 5 year contract when its been shown in the past that he has a very short shelf life with players and there was no demand from other teams to hire him that necessitated that length. Its on the Aquilinis for hiring a blood brother and the season ticket holders who will have to pay for this hiring fiasco. His gaffes are well documented....

boring style, overplaying the top players early combined with having them shotblock leading to increased injuries as they tired midseason, systems that broke down and were not made to fit the team he inherited, his crazy tirade against Hartley which was the crowning touch to the January collapse and may have lost him the room if he ever had it, his not playing Luongo in the heritage game which led to us not having a legit #1 goalie and Lou heading off to the Florida sunshine with little coming back in return.

Frankly he has been a total disaster reminiscent of Iron Mike Keenan's reign of terror which nearly destroyed the franchise just over a decade ago.

So after this year please advise which free agents will want to come anywhere near this franchise as long as Torts is the coach? He cannot be allowed to start the season, he has to be gone immediately with his entire coaching staff ....the upside is that if he stays I am guaranteed to win my $300 bet with Badger so in a way...I am feeling a little torn right now.

And my advice to Trevor Linden echoes that of Troy in White Rock....keep pumping out those fitness gyms and running in your marathons... enjoy your life.....dont come anywhere near this franchise and destroy your reputation...because you will.

Excellent post and I agree on all counts ferris

So much for that thought. Linden is the new President of Hockey Operations.

Generational player in Conner McDavid next year. Who will tank their season 2014_2015 in order to land him.

The Canucks? Keep Torts, blame him. The media gets to continue with the Linden as a shining star routine and the Nucks get their first first pick ever and a player that they can actually build a franchise around. Dump everyone and start anew. Linden brings cup to Vancouver . . . . :) or maybe just a repeat of the last 40 years.
