Bottomline, Canada and many other countries should have enough pride to fund whatever they want with their own money and not rely on the American taxpayer. My neighbor, a Japanese national, works at the Japanese consulate and last night she told me Japan is frightened of Trump cutting Japan‘s funding. Japan has a huge elderly population they cannot support and now Japan must increase military funding. Tax increases are a foregone conclusion. She said it is long past due and I agree. i can't comment a lot on Japan but what "welfare" is Canada getting from the US? a trade deficit is not "welfare". Canada sells surplus. and we mostly sell natural resources to the US. no tariffs are going to make the US suddenly the biggest producer of potash in the world! its the idiocy of Trumps economic policy that it appears he just made up himself. its going to be a big drain on Canada to establish new trade routes for all of that potash but it'll happen. maybe the US can buy it off of China after we sell it to them!?
as for NATO, i'm fine for Canada to leave NATO. what the fuck do we need NATO for? you don't get that we pitch in to protect US interests with NATO, not the other way around. we could easily put that money to establishing a nuclear arsenal, developing our own defence technologies to compete with the US globally. fuck we already abandoned the military aerospace industry decades ago at the US's insistence.

having said all that Trump may be doing exactly what i have predicted and has his eye on boosting the equities market only. i've divested my Canadian equities except for paper gold in advance of the dust up coming in Jan. Trump may just balk, tell everybody he shrewdly got something from Canada and then back to the old system. in which case i will pick up some bargains on the Canadian market. if he doesn't then he's going to ruin the US and CDN economy so i'm good to go with the gold.

It will be interesting to watch health stats if vaccination stops. There may be a big comeback for a lot of horrible diseases like polio and smallpox. Deregulation of the FDA could result in disasters like Thalidomide.

The "Revolutionary War", when looked at in true historical reference, was little more than a proxy was between France and Britain, who were fighting a global war. The USA would not have succeeded without massive outside help from France and European mercenaries.

A significant reason for the success of the Americans was that one battle where George Washington rowed an entire army across a large river in winter, at night, losing a ton of soldiers in the process, and catching a British field army with the pants down because the British commander literally could not conceive of in a million years that Washington would do something that fundamentally stupid as he did. Washington was basically Jar Jar Binks in that one battle at the end of Ep. I completely accidentally lucking into victory.
