I was just explaining this at the bar. A friend of mine one complained about the hate they received for being American. My reply was, in my experience, if you don't bring it up yourself, it's not even really a problem to begin with.

Stereotypically, Americans tend to be loud and boisterous about it. I've been here long enough, it's not the kind of thing I really talk about openly or bring up, unless there's a specific reason to. So it's not even much of an issue. And if I do, it's usually in the context of a light hearted joke, which Canadians just laugh and move onto the next thing. I've heard about other Americans getting shit left on their car or said to them in traffic for having American plates. But again, if you're not openly advertising it, it shouldn't be much of an issue. 🤷‍♂️
Oh Canadian insecurity sometimes. One on one there's a brotherhood and an appreciation when both nations need each other but once drunk or on social media decorum goes out the window and frustration peek its nose. Almost like a siblings rivalry between brothers...lol

I'm french Canadian I have experienced just two belligerent encounter in 30 years in a bar and at a function...not too bad ... online I have had to point things out just a few times that we are all pretty much the same and prejudices are not helpful or some are not based on historically accurate facts.

Not to quibble too much but im pretty sure there are Canadians who can do your job and that compensation is factoring in your employer going to the States to hire...otherwise there would be sufficient demand for us to actually mint our own 'qualified' candidates. Perverse inscentives as they say.
You're welcome to believe what you want, but as explained already, my employers have to demonstrate to the Canadian government that this is factually not true before I can even be offered a job. Not once in my decades long career have I met a single Canadian who has been doing my job as long as I have, at the level that I have. Although I certainly have helped to train up and pass on my experience to literally dozens of less experienced Canadian workers.

Im sure you're qualified, but the current government has filled even Tim Hortons positions with foreign workers so I'm a little skeptical of the 'demonstrate to the Governement that this is factually' anything.

My gripe isnt against you specifically in any way ( you're earning a living) , but more of me bitching about the system and its abuses by employers. Its kind of a rules for thee but not for me situation when it comes to sourcing foreign goods and workers.

I can't speak to all foreign worker requirements, but at least in regards to NAFTA/CUSMA requirements, you need to have an advanced degree, and/or high level training or qualification in your particular area of expertise. This has been the case for myself, and all of my American coworkers that I've worked with. I am restricted to only taking jobs in my relevant field, and could never go off and work at Tim Horton's, or anywhere else outside of my narrowly defined field.

I know that there are entirely different requirements for people based on if they're coming from within the Commonwealth, within the EU, coming from specifically targeted areas to assist refugees, etc.

But at any rate, the requirements vary and are not the same for everyone.

Well Trudeau did something sensible for a change and got the tariffs paused after presenting what may be a workable security agreement on the border and it gives a bit of time to negotiate a final deal. Panama is not resigning a deal with China, Mexico has had its tariff threat paused and is sending 10000 troops to the southern border to interdict migrants and drug smuggling on their side, Columbia capitulated, Venezuela capitulated, eventually we would have had to capitulate. You may not like the way Trump is doing this but its getting the results he wants. One of the major border issues was that of the 585 terrorists on the watch list who infiltrated over the US border 484 of them came across the northern border because of our current lax immigration policy.

Work out this deal and immediately start making plans for a pipeline to the east coast whether Quebec likes it or not, so we no longer are restricted to selling our oil to the US at a discount price and if tariffs are threatened in the future we have other markets to sell it to.

i'd suggest there isn't much "capitulation" happening.

Mexico has had 10,000 troops at the border since 2021.

Biden administration agrees to tightening security at border

"Mexico made the decision to maintain 10,000 troops at its southern border resulting in twice as many daily migrant interdictions"

Canada had 8,500 personnel on the boarder before "capitulating" to add another 1,500 and sped a bit more money. one could argue its in our best interests since far more guns and drugs move north than south.

Columbia's president simply didn't want citizens returned in hand cuffs. He got his wish.

Venezuela... is the US threatening anything with Venezuela? is there anything that they can threaten Venezuela with? Actually, it looks like the US offered to re-establish bilateral relations. i think thats a win for Venezuela!

It was the same thing the Canadian government promised months ago. Trump folded like a cheap obese man's suit.

Trump's only accomplishments were to elevate Trudeau, tank Poilievre's campaign, and make the world hate the US a little more.

Trump's Achilles' heel is he's 10 times stupider than we think he is.

The US really needs to fix their education system
This is worth reposting.
It easy to ridicule the ignorance of people. If they never read a history book or a biography how can they know anything. Many get everything they know from Faux News. Voters who lack background knowledge cannot tell fact from fiction.

American education is in shambles and Trump and Muskrat will make it worse. Intentionally.
Uneducated voters are easier to manipulate.
Informed voters are harder to lie to.

No it was not. Seriously......if you actually believe the US was ever going to lose this tariff war you belong in an insane asylum. The best we could do was some theatrical videos in response showing Liquor Control Board employees across the country removing Jack Daniels bottles from liquor store shelves.
Justin offered a 5 pillar plan costing 1.3Billion dollars over 5 years. None of the items listed at the beginning of this video are specifically part of that promise.

Several different sources....one a report from border patrol part of a video...it had different numbers than in this Toronto Sun report probably because this one was based on a fiscal rather than a calendar year.

I get it. You are a dedicated California Democrat. Anything outside your mainstream media sources which lied to you about Bidens mental capacity for more than 4 years is not valid and you will still keep the faith.

oh and while Im at it this is the party you support and the basic reason why Trump won the election......found a site which shows clips from the DNC election for Party Chair hosted by MSNBC. It is hilarious that the party of identity politics with ludicrous voting rules even they do not understand ended up electing two straight white males as chair and vice chair and the party of defund the police needs the police to throw out all the protesters.

Its a clown show reminiscent of a high school election. Luckily you guys will NEVER learn and will continue to lose. You will continue to believe that Kamala lost because of racism and misogyny when it was just because she was an unlikeable terrible candidate who had no actual vision and just promised more of the previous 4 years and could not ever answer even a softball question. Trump was handed the Presidency.

The host's laugh is annoying...luckily most of the time she keeps quiet.

From one of the US cable news panel shows:

"Trump is trying to repackage the status quo as a victory. That's what the leaders of these foreign countries are learning. You don't actually have to give Trump anything. You have to let him announce victory on TV."
Like Mitch McConnell says, "[Trump] isn't very smart."

No shit. He's a fucking imbecile. And he's somehow President of the United States.
