I never paid much attention to the brexit issue. But I did see an opinion once that the brexit fiasco is what happens when people vote on something that they don’t understand and don’t appreciate the ramifications of their vote.

Loved this quote:

"Britain is the only country in the world, possibly in history, dumb enough to impose sanctions on itself. That is what Brexit economically amounts to."

I grew up in Britain, and shortly after the vote, I was visiting old friends there, and in almost every case my friends (in their 60s) told me that they voted to leave, while every single one of their children voted to remain. It seems to be a generational thing, a longing for the past, when Britania ruled the waves, but as King Canute found out, you can't stop the waves of change. I'd have voted remain, looking in from outside it seemed like a no-brainer, but...

I have family roots in the UK and worked with UK based companies as a factory representative throughout N America. I’m still in touch with a number of engineers I worked with in that era.

A couple of things I noted from these people was

1) they detested the amount of power yielded in the UK by a foreign parliament in Belgium. They felt they were no longer masters of their own destiny. EU presented yet another layer of rules which added to their bottom line. The large conglomerate of companies was eventually sold off bit by bit to USA, Japan and EU countries.

2) They bought into the rhetoric spouted by Nigel Farage. Granted he is a great speaker who had many people buying the confidence that post Brexit, they would be much better off and EU would want to make special agreements with the UK. Farage talked a big end game which has turned out to be a bust.

As already mentioned support for the EU vs Brexit is strong with younger people than those 60+.

Scotland had a referendum years back which was defeated and now there is discussion of another referendum to become part of the EU. I wouldn’t be surprised if Scotland does separate this time around.

BOJO got his Brexit and did a huge disservice to the UK without having a decent plan post election. UK had a very good standard of living until Brexit and unfortunately the future is quite uncertain.

So, some disgruntled Remainer’s blog is supposed to be a definitive, and unbiased observation?

The following are some of the trade deals done so far. More, obviously will be coming, and none, with the possible exception of fishing rights has been a negative for Britain. The current fiasco around the EU’s Covid vaccine failures, have increased support for Brexit. The Remoaners continually try to find ways to show their doom and gloom predictions weren’t total crap.

LIZ TRUSS, the international trade secretary, has hailed the signing of a trade deal with Jordan.
In a tweet she said the pact would "build on our £561m trading relationship" and open up "more opportunities for UK businesses". She said sectors which stood to benefit hugely from the deal included education, healthcare, biometrics, aviation, retail and technology. The UK imports metal roes, mechanical power generators, clothing, vegetables and general inustrial machinery from the Middle Eastern nation.

The UK signed a deal with Japan on 22 October - the first that differed from an existing EU deal. The total value of UK-Japan trade (imports and exports) was £31.6bn in 2019, or 2% of the UK's total trade.
On 31 January, the UK government announced it would apply to join a free trade area with 11 Asia and Pacific nations called the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). Current members include Australia, Canada, Japan and New Zealand.
Separately, the UK government is also holding trade talks with the US, Australia and New Zealand.

And none of this precludes major deals with either the EU, or individula EU nations.

you mean like being told what dimensions of a banana that they are able to buy?

like being told they need to keep paying to fund the banana republics like Greece?

the EU needs Britain far more economically than the UK needs the EU

besides Germany and France, the rest are like having 25 PEI's in the group

Brexit decimated their fishing industry giving preference to Portugal and Spain. They were totally burned by the agreement as were UK fishermen.
Should they leave they would greatly benefit through the oil and gas industry. There’s a good reason why they are called Glaswegians since they are running the offshore oil services industry.

Their share post Brexit would more than triple and not have to give the UK anything.

Perhaps not understanding so much, but being mislead
The pro brexit campaign was very dishonest.
While the EU kept saying everything would have to be re negotiated the brexit campaign was telling voters everything would be the same or better.

Bullshit. The Remainers were full of disinformation and scare tactics.

Labour was the party of Remain. Check out the results of the election Thursday. Labour has been decimated, losing seats they'd held for decades.

Sometimes there is no accounting for the way people vote. I always thought it was strange that Churchill and the conservatives were voted out of office in 1945 after he had led Britain through the darkest days of WW2
