Is it just me or does anyone else think the announced concert at GM Place to aid Tsunami relief is stupid? First - everyone on the planet knows about the disaster and has already donated, so awareness and amount of money donated isn't an issue. Secondly - I'm sick of millionaire entertainers thinking by giving up a few hours of their time they are somehow contributing to a cause by making ordinary people pony up for a ticket. Excuse me, but Avril Levigne, Sarah MacLaughlan and probably the Barenaked Ladies are multi - millionaires. The concert hopes to raise $1 million. The performers could donate that and not even notice it. I'm not saying they may not have donated privately, but I just see this as a way for Nettwerk and the performers to feel good about themselves and garner a whole load of free publicity. I know I'm a cycnic, but if anyone who thought of buying a ticket didn't and just donated the equivalent to the accredited relief agencies it would be of more efficient use. Oh, I'm sure a "live recording" will then be made available, but I can guarantee " a portion" of the proceeds will be donated. Sandra Bullock gave $1 million. That's pro-active.

Hey C.T.

I'm surprised that the self-appointed marshals that patrol this board for things that displease them haven't smashed ya for being so cynical.

I don't think the concert is stupid but I do agree with you that there is a definite self serving aspect to this for the performers and record label. It is nice that they're doing this but as you say, the money raised will be small potatoes compared to what the bands could quietly donate on their own without all the publicity from a concert.

Good on Sandra Bullock for stepping up. I hadn't heard about this but maybe she didn't call a press conference to announce her generosity like the musical performers did.

In Hong Kong, series of shows has been going on in the name of disaster relief. One of the concerts collected about 6 mil cad.

Now I like because their intention is good but I hate it when it is commercialised for publicity.

That's totally right about those tsunami concerts. If anyone has the heart to give, ones doesn't need any motivation from the stars. They are just a whole bunch of jerks who plan for free promotion! Actually each of those stars can afford to donate a $100,000 easily . However they save their pocket and ask you to pay!

Same things suddenly there are some businesses claim that they are going to donate part of their revenue to the tsunami. Again these are all scams. In addition, I also receive numerous phone calls collecting donation for the tsunami. You just don't know who to trust!
