I couldn’t stand trump when he was on the apprentice (which is about all he’s qualified for) and I can’t stand him as president. He’s a lying misogynist asshole, but he did bang a 20 something porn star give him that much. Not sure what Ben Carson’s IQ is. Expect I would compare favourably.
I have followed politics in the U.S. and Canada for most of my life. I have always been on the left. But something changed drastically in the U.S. when Trump put his name in to run. The Republicans and the Democrats set out to destroy him. My suspicions about the left/right paradigm were confirmed. The establishment in these two parties couldn’t give a damn about the people. They only care about lining their own pockets, and will do whatever is necessary to do that. If you don’t believe me, take a good look at California. Their once great major cities like San Francisco and LA have turned into places that nobody wants to visit because of the squalor. Yet the California Democrat representatives like Pelosi, Waters, Schiff, Feinstein, ect. have all made off like bandits. Take a look at their net worth if you don’t believe.
Look what they are doing to Bernie Sanders right now. They are screwing him the same way they did in 2016. They don’t want an outsider ruining their nice little scam they have going. This is true, in the sense that neoconservatives and neoliberals are just two flavours of the same thing - the Establishment, protecting the consensus of ideas and backroom culture which upholds their own privilege. "Left" or "right" is actually just some false game; people are fooled into think that is all there is, that this elite-supported "Coke versus Pepsi" contest for power is the only sort of dimension of politics that really matters. They co-opt every idea into being labelled either "left" or "right", whether it is or not, and using the mainstream media which they control, train the public to just pick one team and support it with blind fanaticism, even at the cost of making their own lives worse. Identity politics is very easy for both sides to engage in, because for all the zealotry & noise, it never changes the basic equation of who has power and who doesn't.
(That's why I have such disdain for a lot of the political gripers on this board. They're just reading from a script prepared for them by someone else. I've heard all this shit before, one version or another of it, and from more original sources.)
However, I would dispute the idea that Trump is not part of that deceitful game - he is absolutely part of it, and absolutely part of the elite that is supported by it. He's ultra-partisan, not some kind of maverick anti-partisan.
If there is a difference with Trump and the more conventional ones, it's that he's thrown all the pretense of ethics or honesty right out the window, and uses the dirtiest plays in playbook even against his own party. Maybe the establishment types feel that Trump is too aggressive a player of their game, and will inadvertently do something that causes its collapse. But as far as making sure the elite have more power than ever before, Trump has been a gold mine for them.
Sanders, on the other hand, is definitely an outsider who's not afraid to take down the big shots (Wall Street big shots, media big shots, Pentagon big shots), so the elites (whether they call themselves Republican or Democrat) are afraid of him. (Same goes for Gabbard, who was ruthlessly shunned and denied many opportunities to speak at events.). As you have observed, the establishment Dems would rather have a party of no ideas and no guts, than be led by a genuine reformer along the lines of FDR.
Yeah, the Republicans have a megaton of bad shit to answer for. But the Democrats have not exactly covered themselves in glory & honour. 2016 was a dismal campaign between two unworthy candidates, where people in the US were asking themselves "are those two really the only choice we have ?!", and it looks like 2020 will be even worse.
Ok, so let’s talk about whether he is part of the deceitful game, or whether he’s playing along with it while people in the background are actually doing the dirty work for him. Your concern is legitimate, I have actually thought the same thing myself. I just look at the resistance they have been putting up against him. If he is part of the system why are they spending every resource they can to get rid of him? It seems to me there are a lot of people worried about what the current Justice Department is going to find out about them.

Actually he has built a wall and Mexico IS paying for it. The wall however is at Mexico's border with Guatemala however and consists of armed soldiers as the Mexican government has 27,000 troops now guarding border crossings against migrants who now no longer have free reign to cross through their country on the way to the US border. It has not stopped them all but it has severely reduced the numbers and resulted in many who do get across deciding instead to declare asylum in Mexico.

Far and away Bernie’s supporters are in the 18 - 29 age group. It’s doubtful the polling people have a handle on those numbers since they rarely are involved with media except through social media.
Who knows? Perhaps there is a grass roots movement outside of the Democratic Party that will show up on Election Day. They have been contributing $ to Bernie’s campaign with an average donation of $18.
It’s disappointing that Biden has all this new found support. He is the old school democratic candidate that people voted against in 2016. At least with #45 and Bernie you have two very independent non party candidates.

Sure I pay more in taxes, but I've had good healthcare when I have needed it, no questions asked. The US does not foster an environment that allows young people to carve out a life for themselves. I don't know about University costs in Canada today, but I can't imagine they are as extreme as in the US. My offspring managed to get a Masters degree with little help from me, and with no debt, by doing a modicum of work throughout. I did the same back in the day. This is coming to a head some day. The institutions of Medicaid and Social Security is sucking out all of the money. OK boomer? On that note, all candidates for pres will be over 70. Tweetstorm on Biden observed having slipped mentally, early alzheimers, dementia suspected. Like him or hate him, at least we have transitioned the mantle and are allowing Gen-Xers to participate in government. We have to invest in future generations. They will get better with time. And while I don't like the power they have been given in 2020, at least we are not steamrolling first nations people. Can't say the same for the US. The are not the greatest nation ever, by todays standards, but don't get me wrong, they are great people. As long as that is the case, there is hope for a better US in the future.
