It is all too convenient but simplistic to use a broad brush when applying the inflammatory term "racist". I doubt the poster meant it in a sinister way. More like a juvenile schoolyard slur that should be dismissed out of hand. When we use any accusatory term too broadly, we diminish the potency of the word, when it should instead be used for more serious breaches of conduct.rac·ism ( P ) Pronunciation Key (rszm) noun
1. The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others.
2. Discrimination or prejudice based on race.
Please don't take yourself so seriously over such a trivial thing.frost said:Maury,
I have no idea what race you are, but I'm going to take a stab and say you are white. The fact that you have taken the time to comment on what I said and not the offending comment speaks volumes. Perhaps if you were of a race or religion on which a derogatory comment had been made you would not dismiss it as oh just school yard stuff.
Frost, I think you've read my post but clearly have misunderstood its content - being blinded by your own zeal. So, I will expand it for your benefit. Racism has many facets that range from one extreme where violence and murder rule, to the other where slurs and whispered words are the preferred currency. In between are a myriad of forms.frost said:Maury,

Some people who feel victimized by any form or hint whatsoever, are quick to lump all forms together. This approach distorts the whole picture, and is more likely to be ignored, like the little boy who cried wolf. If we want to be more constructive as a society, and root out the problem, we have to narrow the focus to the most damaging extreme, thereby enlisting a larger part of society in this effort. So, using racism in a more effective manner, leads to a more productive outcome, and that is the objective. I hope I have made myself clear.
