Did he end up with the LadyBoy or learn how to speak English? ;
English guys like joking around with ladyboys, I do too. Is that not the extent of British humor ? guys dressing up as girls ?

My good buddy bought a bar with 2 other guys on the beach in Phuket.
This was many years ago and lasted for about 10yrs. He would work the summers here and go back every fall. Of course we all managed to get out there for some prolonged holidays.

A very different outlook on life and sex can be found exploring Thailand.
When my buddy decided he had had enough, he sold out to his other 2 partners and came home for good.

The down side was that my friend could not look at or even talk to a North American woman for about 2-3 years. He felt they had their heads so far up their asses it ruined him for awhile :( :(

He eventually got over it though.

I had great times over there and will make it back some day..:D :D

H

Don't bother visiting because if you do and you really like it, you will plan everything around your trips.
Haha! could i ever relate...for about 5 years of my life everything i did or planned revolved around my trips down to Rio. Its very addictive. The other by product is that when you come home, walk into a bar and talk to your typical stunned Vancouver sponge you feel like puking. You're standing there listening to some stunned twunt who wants to do a credit check on you before letting you buy her a drink and thinking "god please kill me or get me out of here"!

Research is best. Find the best deal on airfare to Bangkok, book a ticket, and start looking up the things to do and places to go. You don't want to go to a country as great as Thailand only for the girls; check out tourist sites as well -- some of the best beaches and snorkeling in the world; nice people; great little towns in the north; the best food absolutely everywhere; cheap living.

And of course, check out the numerous web sites about fun with the girls too; start with the world sex guide site and pick out the places you don't want to miss -- go-go bars and amazing massage parlours. But spending all your time in Bangkok and Pattaya does leave you missing out on great experiences. You can pm me if/when you are really going, and I would be happy to provide some specifics.

I'm curious as to where you stayed? My sister and her s/o stayed in a resort that had armed guards outside of the hotel, as gangs were a huge problem. What areas or cities would be safe, with beaches and ok for families, but still has a bit of a night life?
I have never heard of such a place in Thailand. It's super safe and the tourist industry is very important to them.

I've always gone the shoe string route and stayed in cheap places, little bungalows, etc. on beaches or cheap hotels around Koh San Road in Bangkok.

I've been to more beaches there than I can remember but off the top of my head:
-Koh Pi Pi
-Koh Lanta
-Phuket (hated it, too touristy/too many fat German and American older couples, but less rustic if you need more comforts)
-Koh Chang (There are 2 and I've been to both)
-Koh Pangan (spelled wrong, full moon party beach)

It's not just about the general area/island as each little beach has it's own vibe and personality AND that's always changing. I've gone back to places a couple years later and it's so different I barely recognize it. Some beach areas are party-party, some are more laid back. Some have loads of comforts like massage, hair salons, a variety of places to eat and drink...other places have one or 2 places to eat and drink and maybe a used book exchange and that's it.

Trip Advisor might be a good spot to get up-to-the-minute info. I haven't used it for Thailand but for other places recently and I've been really impressed with the reviews and discussion lounges.

Side note:
The best piece of advice any tourist in Thailand can get is to not have ANYTHING to do with drugs in Thailand. Don't buy them, don't use them. If you're around them, leave. This includes mushroom shakes and weed. As liberal as they are with sex they are the opposite with drugs. If you use them you will likely either be robbed (they are more apt to give you too much so you pass out), trapped into a situation where you have to bribe the police or you will go to a Thai jail and you do not want that. Just enjoy the cheap booze and sex, stay away from drugs altogether.

I looked on Expedia and airfare (staying for a week) began at around $1700 usd. Does that sound about right? For some reason I thought it would be cheaper

I see a bunch of return fares for $1100-$1200 C$, but I am looking around the middle of November, on expedia.

Thats about right. I've found really good fares n Norhwest Airlines with a connection in Seattle, narita and onwards to BKK.

You should be able to find Hotels in Pattaya (my fav Thailand whoring destination) for around 50-60

I usually budget around $1200 return. Hotels...honestly everything is so cheap I don't think too much about it, plus when I go there I stay in seriously cheap (almost dodgy) places. I kind of get into a zen, anti-materialism head space.

Flights tend to be cheaper out of Seattle if you can swing that. Cheap bus/train down.

Thailand is almost better equipped for backpackers than luxury tourists so if you can get your head around that, spend less on getting around, accommodation, food and stupid shit and reserve your money for the sex disneyland Thailand is.

Guy friends of mine who would never dream of getting a hooker would just 'hook up' with 'nice' Thai gals who happened to be hanging out in tourist bars. They wouldn't pay by the hour but somehow felt obliged to help them out a bit since they seemed to not have much money. *rolling eyes* It really is Disney, you can get whatever you want, even the illusion that it's real and not a hooker. Ha ha.

The reason everyone says going to Thailand is so cheap is not because the airfare is cheap, it isn't, but because everything is cheap once you get there, so your airfare is your only large expense. I would say hotels for $50-60 are even too expensive, unless you want something posh, if you want you should be able to easily live off of $20 a day. Of course it also depends on where in Thailand...

It is interesting to read this thread, as I was thinking of planning a trip there sometime in the next year... :)

I am surprised, however, that no one has mentioned the recent problems with protests & "civil unrest", which had airports in Thailand closed down a couple months ago. I actually knew people who were stuck there. I am also surprised the airfare isn't cheap right now, for that reason.
I was on my way there during the 06 coup. As long as the airport is open you should be able to get to the beach. The political unrest just devalues the Baht more which is good for tourists. I am leaving in a week, even if the protests start again, I will just get out of those areas.

Thats the best part about the girls, they blur the line between regular girls and hookers. Allot of the girls go to the tourist areas to hitch a western guy.

You're welcome. Not sure what worked, I just kept clicking this mouse thingy until the pretty picture appeared. :)

Thailand doesn't appeal to me, I've met a few rig pigs with interesting stories to share, one guy I know lives there half the year so you don't really have to leave one world for the other.
I doubt if I will ever visit.
I can't wait to go...in fact, it's one of the few places in the world I have interest in visiting. Awesome night life, great weather, amazing beaches, cheap and very good food, cheap booze, and the best massages in the world! What else do you need on vacation?

Going to places like Paris or London has zero appeal to me...taking pictures of buildings etc...bah...

I have to disagree here for ganja fans (although being very very careful is an excellent idea). There is great pot easily available on the islands if you know where to look.

Hmmmm, maybe Thailand doesn't sound so bad afterall. I go to Belize just for the hashish, and the Haitian pot I got in the DR was very good.
The only thing good in Mexico is the blond Acapulco hash, their weed is some nasty shit. :)
