Depending how you define the economy.

China's economy is growing fast the US is mostly maintaining.....

Why does the states have a trade deficit with China? Cheaper labour for manufacturing...

Oh and lets see 1 billion to 350 million.... manpower....
The Chinese government is known to water down their numbers.

Even if they are numerically superior, it's not about quantity, but quality.

I'd rather buy 1 American car than 10 Chinese cars.

Back in the 60's when I was in high school part of the curiculum emphasised Birth Control, there was a real sense of the overpopulation problem. It was a real mantra that we should only reproduce ourselves so that global populations stabilize. That all went out the window and you don't even hear a peep about that anymore because they figured out it was bad for business. The world feasts on consumerism, you have to feed bodies into the machine so it can shit out $$$$$.
All our issues today are caused by overpopulation, less people less pollution, less mining, farming, logging, cars, oil etc. This planet has a bad case of fleas, population birth control needs to be reinstated to get it all under control before we start devouring each other.

Today parents have more choice for babies, timing, limiting the number of them for economic reasons (so they can give their child more). Western countries have stable population (see other thread on population). Its Africa which is predicted to have the most population growth in the next few decades.

Maybe climate change will lessen the population due to famine as the climate changes...

Its funny all you need is shelter, food and water to maintain life. And stores sell everything else.

Sybian I thought I was on a soap box not a leather armchair .... ouch!!! So what are your thoughts on TIR?
Yeah....sorry about that, I didn't realize I'd given the side of your soapbox a boot heel....I've seen the darkest side of humanity, and sometimes I gotta let it out, to blow some steam....nothing personal, and I appreciate your tolerance.
You handled that like a gentleman.
If I may get back to you on my thoughts about TIR...when I go off on a rant, I seem to get misunderstood a little around here.

I find it annoying when people talk about income indisparity between the rich and the poor.

The poor are making more money and the rich are making more money, albeit at different paces. The wealthy doesn't make money at the cost of the poor. The lower class now has more luxuries than the ultra wealthy a hundred years ago - Dishwasher, household appliances, and air conditioning.

I suppose fossil fuels have lifted the human race out of poverty conditions. We all consume its products ,and bi-products wether we drive or not. It has now brought us to the point of reliance upon it, and we now realize it was sealed somewhat safely in the earth ,and we suck it out of the ground, and create a environment that is less hospitable to live within.
The Earth is now trying to rid itself of a parasite by washing itself clean with storms, floods fires and changing weather.
This has most likely all happened before, as we don't know how old the rock we live on ,has really been around and supported some form of life.
We are now trying to live and change energy in a cleaner fashion....we will always consume the resources around us to live.
We now know that we were/ are just poisoning ourselves, and perhaps we have come to the point that we just want to live in our environment and poison it a little less.
My life is very unusual, I consume trees to live.....I build what I need with them, and then heat the buildings with firewood.
I planted 1400 trees to more than return what I had, and will have taken. It didn't matter ,as they burned in the greatest fire to ever hit BC.
My water is very pure as it flows from the mountains at 5000 feet, were no human has ever lived. Yet the changing weather patterns and less snowfall is changing the amounts to very much less....particularly this year.
I can adapt my hay cutting to only take one cut....but I can't change the weather. Will my grass die and not come back the following year?
I may adapt my practices, but I can't control the weather.....Has the problem has become to dramatic?
He says that the Third Industrial Revolution has already started, and we really didn't see it coming...The internet is driving vehicles, operating equipment, and controlling communication....yet it's out there for anyone to screw with and sabotage.
We have become too reliant on it.....it is softening us, we are grooming ourselves for failure.
Most of the population is not self reliant, they could never sustain themselves, they look towards someone ...or something...for help to survive.
The human race has been groomed to become consumers to fuel an economic engine...and that works when resources are plentiful. We are now realizing that we wasted those plentiful resources , and are trying to correct ourselves.
In this time of adjustment....Are we sending the "dirty" jobs to other nations that are behind our environmental standards?
The answer to that is Yes.
BC hydro pulls out dirty technology and replaces their transformers with greener ones....but they sell them overseas, to be used in different countries , to regain their investments. The offending equipment is removed, but is still polluting on the face of the earth....we are only moving the problem elsewhere, for profits.
Asbestos removal is sent to India so it doesn't affect our workers, it just slowly kills someone else that we feel is less worthy...the list of mistakes is endless.
im not sure if we will ever get our act together, we rely on Governments around the world to do that....and they don't have the best track record at accomplishing even that.
They use new technology to destroy other nations, technology is superiority....and part of the spoils of War, once a region is conquered....is consuming natural resources.

These days, people of the west need new beliefs to hold onto. The advancements in civil liberties, justice system, social structure, technology, and quality of life, has made western human life seemingly less purposeful for the masses in the western societies who live passively without realizing they have this life because of all the sweat and blood of their generations before, and now they seem to have grapples with ideology and forget the core principles that made this quality life possible. This is why there are more and more unhappy youth, surprise suicide cases, mental depression of economically thriving individuals, odd mass killings etc.

In the past, traditional religions, daily struggles of making a living and hard work, and whatever else that is now mundane or simple, would consume and motivate the masses to have a goal or aim in life, or be distracted from this feeling of rootlessness and emptiness. This is no longer the case in the west due to our major life advances.

Traditional values like love for family, pride and prosperity, god and country, no longer matter or drive individuals' lives. These used to serve a purpose on an individual level to give meaning to existence.

The masses now need new idols, new religions, and new ideas to believe in: individual activism is on the rise for causes such as social justice, equity, diversity and extreme feminism, veganism, socialism, marxism and communism, climate change, green, etc. exactly because of this. These are the new religions. These are the new beliefs that individuals misguidedly and unquestionably adopt as their new gospel and truth, and fight for them without doubt, to feel passionate about something, to feel better than thou, and to feel a purpose in life.

Governments and other political and economical powers and agendas, have learned to use and abuse this phenomena the individual is struggling with, extremely to their advantage, to drive their own agendas and goals, to mobilize movements and causes, and reap the benefits.

The hungry teenager in ethiopia is not struggling with whether he identifies as a boy or a girl and the guy working to feed his family raising cattle in India is not thinking about implementing a meat tax to save the ozone layer.

I bought the book a couple years ago and only getting around to reading it now, decided to google the author. Saw this utube video, watched the video.

Economy, climate change, internet communications and alot of other topics are covered.

For those on Next Generation Kick, Resistance is Futile (humour) ..... or the established roadblocks are going up (seriously).....

WOW!
Climate change is a SHAM.....change my mind if you dare.

As a foray into your initial agruements...how does a "carbon tax" lower emissions?....IT DOES NOT

A "carbon tax" does not lower emissions it just taxes Canadians for foolishly wanting to heat their homes and drive to work or drive to take the kids to hockey practice etc.

Further to what you may respond I will respond with FACTS.

During the "middle ages" warming period the CO2 levels were at over 8000 parts per million. As it stands in the last say 40 years CO2 levels have gone from 265 parts per million to 370 parts per million. The level of CO2 has not even doubled in the time frame of 30+ years yet we have "scientists" peddling soothsayer predictions over what will happen to the 3rd rock from the sun BASED on maybe 50 years of information and BASED on computer models with skewed information for what the climate WILL be for the next 1000 YEARS.The so called "experts" are padding their collective nests as they dont want to lose their funding/jobs.

On a worldwide scale Canada produces 2%(being generous) of worldwide CO2 emissions yet Canada's northern boreal forest CLEANS up 50% of worldwide CO2 emissions......I think Canada as a country should be charging other countries for our efforts due to responsible logging practices and nut fucking over it's own citizens with a Carbon Tax.

At the same time for all of this mindless BULLSHIT is the evil culprit as mandated by the United Nations International Panel on Climate Change(the UNIPCC) which has said the CO2 which is Carbon Dioxide is the evil bogeyman that is "destroying the planet.

Every living being that breaths produces CO2....we breath in oxygen and exude CO2 and at the same time ALL plant life say such as trees consume CO2 and give off oxygen.....it is a nice efficient symbiotic relationship.

Climate Change is a fucking sham and the emperors new clothes. It is the latest way for leftist governments to just TAX people and it is FED by the media.

For all of the fuss do the common people get a glimpse at what goes on at say the "Paris Accord" climate agreement.....no we dont as it is just a shitload of government beauracratic pigs at the trough feeding themselves whilst on a free vacation on the tax payer dime.

I have said my bit....and now to the OP.....CHANGE MY MIND.....with logical and substantive points based on information as well as silly things like FACTS.

Sorry SR, in this thread I have not referred to "carbon tax" at all. In other post I have stated that it is a tax. It's purpose is to get money, and at the same time hit peoples pocket books so they don't spend so much on gas/oil; not that people are not going to heat their homes and drive their cars. Maybe take public transportation if available.... Think about that hour commute for everyone, instead of being a frustrated driver, they can relax on a bus and read a book...

The Hockey Stick debate surrounds on how the data was "criticism of the statistical techniques as tending to underplay variations in earlier parts of the graph, though this was disputed and he later accepted that the effect was very small.[" Wikipedia (see above ref). Other statistical methods were used and the final conclusion is there is no doubt that their is a rise in temperature happening..... (thats gobal warming or the now more acceptable term climate change). The only conclusion scientist can make right now is that their appears to be a correlation between rising CO2 levels and the rise of the worldwide temperatures.

In Russia the Aral Sea
http://https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aral_Sea

There is a reason why recknecks don't bbq in their garage with the garage door shut. There are reasons you don't run your car in your garage with the garage door shut when you are in the garage..... The earth atmosphere is a bigger garage, so trying to reduce the CO2 output would be a good thing.... Going to renewable energy is a good thing, but their is a status quo holding things back (like the oil industry and the fact you like to drive your oil guzzling car..... but then so do I). Rifkin has another book called the "hydrogen economy". I once read a sci fi book where the invading aliens had tanks running on hydrogen fueled gas turbines. The problem is hydrogen burns so hot, we don't have the materials that can withstand the heat now....

The 8000 ppm CO2 came from a study in Europe and there is evidence that it might be a local anomaly.

The evidence of CO2 and gases in the atmosphere come from ice core samples drilled throughout the world and give evidence of more than the last 30-50 years. It goes back for thousands of years.

Ranting is good for you, but as you see most people slowly turn their back to you, until your are finished and then can finish the conversation in a normal logical way. Again I don't like tax increased either. But I do believe we need to have the infrastructure to replace oil as a energy source; unfortunately like the tax on gas (put on in the 70s??) now, it was for roads and road improvements but went into general revenue anyways.....those lying politicians.....

I'm not going to try to change your mind on Climate Change, you can do that yourself. Just remember if you read it on the internet it might not be true, verify facts, because like I learned in Grade 12 English, propaganda is real and facts can be turned into fiction. Twisted just like the Germans did in WW2....

The world's temperature is rising, with that there will be more moisture in the air, we will get heavier rains, flooding, droughts etc. Look at the increase in frequency of the bigger Hurricanes in the last 100 years.

On Netflix there was this documentary on Bill Nye going up against a bible-thumping science nay-sayer (due to his religious views and faith). It is a flabbergasting thought to think their are people that would disdain science as BS and that the bible is the truth/reality...People can believe in what they will; but if others don't follow that line, let them be.

The thing with science; the science is changed as new facts are brought into view.

The Aral Sea isn't drying up because of climate change. It's because the Russians made the poor decision to divert the rivers feeding it. If you want anybody to take you seriously you might want to get your facts straight.

Master Blaster you are correct the damage is from siphoning the water elsewhere, but a large body of water that is not there anymore will have an effect on the climate. The loss of water in that area (75 % of the Sea), means the lake has less mass to retain/give off heat in the region..... daytimes are hotter and nightimes are colder. Learned this in elementary school when the teacher was asked why the sand was very hot on the feet (in the afternoon) and the water was cooler...... The teacher explained that the sand heated up fast in the presence of the sun and cooled down quickly without the sun, while the water slowly warmed with the sun and cooled off more slowly after sunset, which was why the water was warm after sunset. Has to do with water's ability to hold heat.

The Chaos Effect. The butterfly flaps its wings in North America, which creates a Typhoon in the Philippines.
