Okay i was listening to MOJO radio and the topic was Cloutier. The Team was spitting out a bunch of numbers about him when i said "that can't be correct."

I did a google search and found a site that backed everything i heard on the radio. http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/players/profile?statsId=1532

If you crunch the numbers for 2003-2004 DC had...

Wins: 33 The most by any other Canuck netminder
GAA: 2.27 Don Cherry always said if your under 3.00 GAA thats excellant
SV%: .914

Theres more for DC. He ranks for the 2003-2004 NHL season...

16th in GAA
T-5th in NHL wins
18th in NHL SV%
T-8th in NHL Shutouts

I didn't see nor did i look, but he must have finished very high for the season. Well above many other goalies.

Dan Cloutier by the career had...

2.64 GAA What did Don Cherry have to say about Goals Against Average?
..his Save Percentage was .903 Quite remarkable

After reading this i'm thinking do we really want to bring in a goalie like a Loungo or anyone else who with no guarantee will do no better than Cloutier. Even if your a gambling man the odds that some other goalie will pull it off, don't add up.

The numbers that Mr. Cloutier have are pretty good all things considered. The problem everyone has myself included is when it really counts Dan Cloutier isn't there. He fails to make the grade.

So for the 2005-2006 season i hope DC will be at his best, and if theres a trade and we get someone else.................nahhh i can't see that happening. Mr. Cloutier is our goalie and as a Canuck fan i have to except that.

Have not province
He fails to make the grade because he is injured at the most inopportune times. Either during the playoffs or during the positioning stretch run during March.

Damn Kev....you make some good points.....and HEY it wasn't Dan's fault the canucks didn't get the correct scouting report on the Redwings a few years back>>>>>>>>

Everybody in the league knows, and i mean EVERYBODY....you CAN'T let Nicklas Lidstrom shoot from the red line!!!!

Well I'm no hockey expert, but the last time I saw

Roberto Luongo was on Team Canada, while Cloutier was never considered.

What does this mean,

Well Team Canada can only pick 3 goalies, and for Luongo to be on the top 3 means something.

Without a doubt, Cloutier played great during the season, and I'm not taking anything away from him....but Canucks only have 3 years to win the cup, then it's buy buy to Bert and Naslund.....can the Canucks afford to take a chance on Cloutier for one more season?!?

Bottom line Luongo made 1.9 million last season he played, (that is without the 24 percent roll back)...who would you rather spend 2 million on Cloutier or Luongo?

Maybe this should be a poll question :D

Cheers.

fuck cloutier. numbers don't always tell the whole story, so screw the numbers too. lets use basketball for an example. has anyone heard the name "adrian dantley"? no? i figured as much. this guy had the numbers of an nba all star. he was a 6'5 power forward when the height for that posistion is 6'9 or taller yet he put up unbelievable individual numbers. except for one thing.

i think he played on maybe one or two winning teams his whole career and he never once won a championship. although he had spectacular numbers and was a great individual talent he was a drain on every team he ever played on. the pistons didn't start winning with isiah thomas until the year after they traded dantleys sorry ass.

my point. trade cloutiers sorry ass, he is a drain on the team and can't be counted on when they need him.

Cloutier is an idiot!! He thinks that he can handle the puck(he can't), he is constantly behind and outside his net when he should be in front stopping goals. I think he is one of the biggest downfalls that the Canucks have, besides the Sedin twins who I am sure are missing a couple of chromosomes, and can only play when they are together on the ice. Give me Hedberg any day. I think Cloutier's lack of skill was a humongous factor in the Colorado incident, he spent the first half of the game skating around as if he was at the icecapades and let I think at least 4 goals before he was replaced. He has let his team down too many times and has never shown that he has what it takes to play in the playoffs. I wouldn't even send him to a farm team, the only place he should be is on some cul-de-sac, him and Roenick can play with each other and Cherry can do the play by play and interview them between periods :D ! Just my .02 cents!!

Cloutier's numbers were put up with a pretty fair defence corps in front of him. The Canucks this upcoming year currently have (so far) a depleted defence and look to start Moose on defence. Now let's see what numbers he puts up and how long he can stay uninjured. He want a long-term contract, but realistically this is his last year of the Cloutier experiment. If he crashes this year he's gone. If the Canucks sign a long-term with him they're dumber than I thought.

stats aren't worth shit:

QB with best stats in NFL? ... Dan Marino ... SuperBowl wins ... zip.

MVP in the NBA this year? Steve Nash ... Championships ... nada.

if the canucks CAN'T get rid of Clouthier then they should use Auld as often as possible so that Clouts stays reasonably healthy up to the playoffs ... as well, Auld would become somewhat more seasoned and maybe even show some playoff potential.

the canucks went far in '94 because they had a good goalie who stood on his head to stop the puck in the playoffs ... every canuck on that team said that Kirk McLean WON games for them with his play ...

most calgary fans and players would say the same about kipper last year ...

trade clouts now!

Cut Cloutier......Period

If the nuckleheads could just figure out a way to pace themselves through
the season and leave some gas in the tank for the playoffs......then
maybe, just maybe they would have a fighting chance.
Canucks always seem to play with full intensity right from the get go.
The heavy hitter teams know this, they play like shmucks for the first
couple months keeping their eye on the stats and when it counts
they start turning up the heat.

The nuckleheads go through the season like a true pooner blowing there
wad and come the playoffs its shower time. Nothing left, No MSOG........nothing !!!! :D

Look at the last two seasons best ever seasonal records and then come
Feb they start loosing consistently because they're tired,
barely squeak into the playoffs............big F'ing deal.
When you choke in the playoffs what the hell does a great
season mean other than sucking people in to their seats with false hopes.

Cloutier...........one word.........SUCKS !!
Like Julia said in another thread, hope he's in the net come the playoffs. :(

..............QM'r

not to hijack the thread but to be fair steve nash has a lot of play in him and lots more oppertunity to win a championship. he is a proven playoff performer that has taken his teams deep into the playoffs. but this kind of proves my point about numbers being deceptive.

to look at nashes numbers compared to other nba mvps and they are not too spectacular. he makes the numbers of his teammates go up and therefore winning. the suns were nothing without nash last year.

In a nice wet pussy!
A good player is one that applies his skills to elevate his team's chances at winning it all. No one player can win the Cup. Nash did what he could, using his stats to put his team in position for the kill. After that, the team has to finish the job. Win or lose in any sport, it's always a team effort.

Canucks Re-Sign Dan Cloutier

Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Canucks Senior Vice-President and General Manager Dave Nonis announced today that goaltender Dan Cloutier has signed a multi-year contract. In keeping with club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"Dan has grown as a person and a player in Vancouver and is now at an age when NHL goaltenders traditionally reach the prime of their careers," said Dave Nonis. "He’s had some wonderful seasons for us and has become a big part of this community. We look forward for another excellent year from Dan."

Cloutier, 29, played in 60 games with Vancouver during the 2003-2004 season, equalling a career high season with 33 wins, 21 losses, six ties, five shutouts and a career best 2.27 goals-against average. In tallying 33 victories, Cloutier became the first goaltender in Canucks history to have posted three consecutive 30 win seasons. In fact, no other goalie in team history has won 30 or more games in two straight seasons.

In 195 career regular season games with Vancouver, Cloutier has posted a 101-65-23 record with 14 shutouts and a 2.38 goals-against average. During 2004-05, Cloutier played for Klagenfurter AC of Austria, posting a 7-0-5 record and a goals against average of 1.94 in the regular season.

The 6-foot-1, 195 pound native of Mont-Laurier, Quebec, was acquired by Vancouver on February 7th, 2001 from Tampa Bay in exchange for Adrian Aucoin and a second round draft pick. In 305 career regular season games, Cloutier has posted a record of 123 wins, 121 losses and 33 ties, with 15 shutouts and a 2.64 GAA. Cloutier has also played in 25 NHL playoff games over the last four seasons with Vancouver, posting a record of 10 wins, 13 losses and a 3.31 GAA. Cloutier was originally drafted by the NY Rangers, 26th overall, in the 1994 Entry Draft.

What does this mean,
I'd take Luongo over Cloutier, and apparently so do Wayne Gretzky, Pat Quinn, Steve Tambellini and everybody else ever involved with selecting a goalie to play for Canada.

I don't think the arguement of whether or not Luongo is a better goalie than Cloutier; Team Canada has answered that question. The fact that Luongo is set to make at the very least $3 mil with his agent looking for $4 mil. So the question is, do you trade either Jovo or Ohlund -one makes over $4 the other set to make about the same (along with Cloutier and his $2 mil) to take on Luongo and his $3+ mil and a cheaper defenceman? I'd probably pull the trigger and trade Jovo seeing that he is a free agent next year. The point thought is that you have to make the $$$ work out and then sign Cooke dammit!!

Lots of guys pointing out the obvious but there's a real shortage of realistic solution. Someone mentioned Joseph was earlier but give me a break. If that's what they would have to resort to, they might as well play with 6 skaters and an open net.

Go where? They just signed some goalie names Aubin, are negotiating with a 42 year old who's never won a thing, and have signed two guys with their brains half scrambled. Meanwhile, they've lost Roberts (HUGE LOSS!), Nieuwendyk, Leetch, and Mogilny. Man...it's going to be fun watching them get kicked on Saturday nights while Cherry shits his pants!
