I agree that marriage is difficult

I just think marriage as an institution is a stupid existence. We use it as a measure of our likability or desirability when in and of itself is a massive social failure.

If half of restaurant patrons were food poisoned, restaurants would be illegal. If half of theme park patrons died on roller coasters, they would be banned.

But why is it that half of marriages end in disastrous, spiteful and financially destructive court lawsuits and isn't banned?
 I dunno but I think in the least it gives two people a comfortable home (shared expenses and household duties)

right here and now
…...I am saddened when men are unhappy in marriage but some stay unhappy just so the wife can be happy..... how is that a bad thing? Some ladies couldn't deal with a failed marriage and you can bet her man knows her better than you do.
Very valid point and not too far from the truth for many

IF there was no celibacy in the Catholic Church, there would be far less sex abuse in the Catholic Church! It isn't a natural human state. It's an unnatural denial of human nature!
I don't think it's fair to single out the Catholic Church. I went to Catholic school and was never touched inappropriately yet my stepdad has many mental and physical scars from residential schools... molestation has nothing to do with abstaining and everything to do with a lack of control of a predatory nature.

I think love, companionship, marriage are different things.

Love is chemical. Companionship is logical. Marriage is delusional.
I am laughing so hard RN

possibly an extension of government institution? ..... locking people in to the economy "provide for your family"?? random thought..

With all due respect, you weren't a boy. I don't necessarily fault the church insomuch as I fault societal expectations. I think there were countless generations of gay Catholic men who were encouraged/forced to deny their own sexuality because it was sinful! I went to Catholic school too...our brother school was in Burnaby, & no more than THREE teachers there at the time had been shuffled out to BC after an abuse scandal at the orphanage where they all taught in Newfoundland. From the stories some of the STM boys of those days told, I have no doubt that those three lay brothers continued their predatory ways here until the Mount Cashel scandal broke & they were finally dismissed from their positions too. (Residential schools, many of which were run by the Anglican church, are a whole different level of wrong!) I don't fault Catholicism; I fault the denial of natural urges & instincts!

I agree, somewhat, but I was never tempted to victimize anybody while I abstained..... IMO regardless of who, what, when, where and the answer is in why.... it is lack of control

*edit* we're off topic.......

Heard this one straight from a priest:
What's the difference between a priest and acne?
Acne comes (cums) on your face after you're 12.

I've heard that one, but it was "pedophile" not priest.

In general, I believe, before the government, the Catholic church was responsible for a lot of societies belief systems as it was in control of a lot of changes in our history and this is what we all historically adapted to (in North America, Europe and beyond) .....Marriage being an extension/example. Maybe, with government focusing the majority of their attention on forward moving economy, now, the unresolved belief systems, left to brew on the back burner are now spilling over. Just a thought I had...

you can't blame mom and dad forever, you have to take responsibility at some point :p

I'm curious, though, what does the Buddhist religion say about marriage?

It always fascinated me how people in relationships or marriages seek out sps. I mean these folks make up for a large portions of an sps clientele. I guess I'm just too naive, young and haven't been stuck in relationships or marriages but would love to hear your thoughts?
When I was young and naïve I used to think like you. Then I got old and realized most men are dogshit. Me included.

Speaking for myself, fantastic sex with Sensual Practitioners eg. >Angel< was a wonderful help for a man's damaged psyche. It was indeed the magick answer.
She truly is wonderful, and easy to talk to
