His name is General Sir Richard Dannatt; he is the head of the British Army.

The two are mutually exclusive. The US and all foreign troops should pack up and head out if Iraq as soon as possible. They've accomplished their stated goal of removing Saddam and bringing a semblance of democracy to that litter box of a nation so time to leave. Add to that its now turning in to a cival war so again, time to leave. Afganistan on the other hand they need to stay and insure that the taliban are reduced to nothing.Maury Beniowski said:Should the West get out of Iraq & Afghanistan?
I was aware of it, however I wanted to poll our members here, and add a face to the name. This fella will be extremely hard to ignore at home, and I highly doubt the government will make any attempt to silence or replace him. His timing is very astute with the Labour Party ruminating over Blair`s successor, and the upcoming elections in the US. In fact, his timing almost takes a page out of (dare-I-say) Islamic militants. So far the BBC`s blog only lists one dissention, an American.Randy Whorewald said:
removing Saddam?... that was one of the stated goals?... one of the initial stated goals?... are you sure it wasn't one of the, "oh shit, guess we better come up with some reason for being here, now that the presence of WMD, the 9/11 ties and the al-Qaeda link reasons have been shown to be bogus".Maury Beniowski said:Should the West get out of Iraq & Afghanistan?gravitas said:The two are mutually exclusive. Why does the Taliban be reduced to nothing? Because they have in what many in the West see as repulsive policies? If so, what of the other parties and politicians in Afghanistan that western troops are fighting for?gravitas said:The two are mutually exclusive. I agree we (the west), should pull out of there. Things are only getting worse instead of better as we are not seen as "liberators" by anyone there.
