Regardless of what anyone says, companies still need to produce, and sell what they produce.

You still need to drive a car.

You still need to see a doctor.

You still need to live somewhere.

You still need to eat.

The fact is it may be tougher and people may still tighten their belts and not buy as many "luxury" items,

but people still need to "consume" even during recessions.

I live in Alberta. The planet still needs oil and gas to keep almost all modes of transportation operational, to heat homes, and to cook food. Nuff said.

The sun had a guest editorial in Thursday's paper re: the next economic meltdown ocuring in europe due to the eurpean banks making so many loans to the third world and now the are about to come due with little hope of repayment.

This world is going to hell in a handbasket!

I think it's that quote.

Europeans work to live and North Americans live to work. Hopefully things do change but I don't think it will happen with this generation. If anything, the generation growing up will quickly realize there is no instant gratification when a recession is in a full swing!

People will still continue to live, buy things, entertain themselves, but perhaps in a less expensive way. Going out will be about enjoy yourselves, not being "seen". A car will be a car, not a huge SUV. A house will be a place to live..not an investment. Maybe..in the whole grand scheme of things, it's just better.

What we're looking at is not things getting tight for a little while. We are looking down a long dusty road with not much fun at the roadhouses. If you've never paid any attention to what happened during the "Great Depression" you are in for a shock--Hell, you're in for a shock anyway!

Because our wonderful mainstream media likes to keep things rosy they haven't told you much about the decades long recession in Japan. They tell you things will be looking up in a couple of quarters or so but they won't. Get used to it.

Oh and by the way it hasn't happened here yet. We are like the people of New Orleans a couple of days before Katrina. They watched it on TV not quite believing it until it slammed them hard against the wall.

One day you will understand that we live in a world of excess and greed.

This is a wake up call.
