Geekenders Present ‘The Rocky Horror Show’ By Richard O’Brien

On June 16, 1973, director Jim Sharman debuted a musical that would warp time, space, and sweet transvestites for ever… THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW. Written for the stage by Richard O’Brien (who would later play Riff Raff in the sensational cult-movie adapatation, THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW), the original live stage version of THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW is getting the Geekenders’ treatment at the Rio Theatre on Thursday, October 27 – Saturday, October 29.

As always, audience participation is encouraged – feel free to dress in costume and yes, prop bags will be available for purchase in the lobby. This deliberately kitschy, rock ‘n’ roll, gothic sci-fi parody will be more fun than you’ve ever seen it when it’s performed live, on stage, by Vancouver’s favourite nerdlesque troupe.

Upcoming Showtimes

Thursday October 27th - 8:00pm

Friday October 28th - 8:00pm

Friday October 28th - 11:55pm

Saturday October 29th - 8:00pm

And The Picture Show on Halloween!

The Rocky Horror Picture Show (Halloween Edition!)

Let’s Do The Time Warp… Again!

Join us for one of the most notorious cult-movie experiences you can possibly have in a darkened theatre… and on Halloween. (Seriously, this is what dreams are made of.) For over four decades, THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW has been giving absolute pleasure to adoring audiences spaced out on sensations like they’re under sedation. In this, the undisputed Queen of Cult Classics, sweethearts Brad (Barry Bostwick) and Janet (Susan Sarandon), stuck with a flat tire during a storm, discover the eerie mansion of Dr. Frank-N-Furter (Tim Curry), a transvestite scientist. As their innocence is lost, Brad and Janet meet a houseful of wild characters, including a rocking biker (Meat Loaf) and a creepy butler (Richard O’Brien). Through elaborate dances and rock songs, Frank-N-Furter unveils his latest creation: a muscular man named “Rocky.”

See THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW the way it was meant to be seen – on the big screen, in the dark, and with a raucous Rio Theatre audience who are just as into it as you are. Whether you’re a Virgin or a veteran, you’ll have a blast! (Sweet Transvestites of all ages welcome in the balcony are welcome for this Halloween screening!) As always, costumes and audience participation are highly encouraged and maybe even essential – it is Halloween, after all! Prop bags included in this event. (You’re definitely welcome to bring your own prop bags, too, but – whatever you do – PLEASE, NO RICE!)

Two shows tonight. Not sure I'm gonna be able to make it. Anybody go last night or planning to go?

Edit to note: I actually did make it to the midnight show last night and had a really, really good time. The band sounded great and the cast was quite good. It was a lot of fun. One more show tonight! If you've been considering going, I would recommend the experience.
