Not a royalist here by any means but I just clicked on my newsfeed and saw that the Queen died today. 96, a long and productive life and the only monarch in my lifetime involved with our country. I always thought she was everyone's Queen and grandmother.

RIP Queen Elizabeth. She served the UK since the 1950’s and will be sorely missed.

Now Charles will be the next King and will have some big shoes to fill. Hopefully he can unite a fractured family and cut out the drama.

The monarchy is clearly a touchy subject for some, I am amazed at the amount and volume of bitterness, hate and vitriol being thrown her way online today. The way some of these people are talking, it's like Lizzie herself was out there enforcing racist policies and bad behavior. The blame is more correctly placed on the politicians and assholes in the church but they are celebrating her death and it's a little much.

She was born into a world far different from ours. Kids under fifty have no idea what the post-WW2 world was like.
She inherited a position she may not have wanted but she did what she felt was her duty, working literally to the day she died.
And of course she did her duty in WW2 as a lowly truck driver when she could easily have fucked off to the relative safety of the colonies like some other royals did.
Not many perb readers would stay in a city being bombed if they could avoid it, especially if the enemy put a huge bounty on their head.

I don't envy Charles, he is almost universally disliked and his horrible wife is utterly despised. Floppy Lugs and Camilla Bow Wow.
The status of the Royal family will diminish greatly. Canadians mostly only know the immediate family but there are hundreds of hangers-on, lords, ladies, dukes, earls and so on. A thorough cull is coming.

Those people should consider the alternative if Britain couldn't enlist help from USA and lost WWII. But then again they wouldn't know anything about history.

I heard a speech today , Churchill asks her to do at the beginning of ww2. She was princess then, not any sign of nervous. Very strong, very young , extremely smart.o she was 21.
sad day for us that remember, sadder for her tho.

Despite the lyrics, John Lydon did say “You mustn’t presume that I’m completely dead against the royal family as human beings. I’m not; I’m actually really, really proud of the queen for surviving and doing so well. I applaud her for that; that’s a fantastic achievement.”
