The (poor) state of hobbying in Victoria, BC

Hey gents,

Is it just me (new to Victoria), but the state of hobbying here seems really dead? I am in Vancouver frequently and I get that they’re different cities and all, but things here just seem plain dead. Am I missing something? I have used Islands Finest of late and while they do have some decent providers (maybe 3-4) the a la carte menu is a bit off putting and gets expensive fast. Aren’t there girls here who wanna have some fun and make decent money doing so? What about the UVic hunnies I see downtown all the time, or the stunners at my gym? Aren’t there any decent indy’s? Has there been some big cultural shift here towards escorting or are things here just a bit dry right now? Seeking a seasoned veteran’s answer here.

IMO it seems to come in waves - periods where there's lots of women at agencies/indies and periods where there are few. Can't compare to Van from personal experience, but Vic IS about 15% the population of greater Vancouver. Smaller population is simply not going to support a similar number of SW's.
- downtown places are almost as expensive/scarce as in Van and Vic is an expensive place to live in general, and with a smaller pool of potential clients (I've seen more & more women hosting out in Langford/Colwood)
- I get the impression many SW's have other jobs, so their availability may be more limited
- I've seen (on Twitter) LOTS of women who visit then get burned/lose money, so it is not the friendliest place to visit for many. That reputation spreads to others on the mainland.
- the 3 agencies (SVIP, IF, VC) seem to all be pretty good (I haven't been to IF but VC & SVIP seem quite supportive) so not sure what else you can expect. I'd encourage you to try VC & SVIP too.
- there are some incredible indy SW here also, but tend to advertise elsewhere (like Tryst) or maybe they have enough regulars/other jobs that they're not popping up as often
- Twitter has been useful to learn more about SW's here & who visit here.

It's not you. The scene here is pretty slow. It's been that way pretty much since I moved here in the summer of 2019. Now in saying that, there are a number of good quality independent ladies. You just have to put in some work to find them.

The Victoria scene is definitely not what it used to be. Not entirely sure why things have dwindled so much over the last 10 years or so. I think part of it is advertising is a bit of a problem, Leolist is such a shit show full of so much fake garbage that as time goes on it seems like many good indies either don't advertise on it anymore, or advertise less as it's hard to stand out on there. Tryst is ok, but seems like the majority of SPs on there are the pro/more well established girls, rather than the "young college student looking to make some extra cash on the side" type (I wonder if that's an indication that Tryst is more expensive/prohibitive for the more casual, part-time SP).

Nothing really quite took the place of Backpage when it went under. There are some SPs who aren't advertising at all anymore and instead just relying on prior regulars to make some extra money here and there. There are great/amazing SPs in Victoria, but it's getting increasingly hard to find them.

Also not sure which is cause and which is effect, but this forum has dwindled as much in the same time. There was a time when reviews on here were plentiful/frequent, now they're kinda rare.

I've had a bit more money than usual and have been enjoying trips to IF, some really great women there and would recommend a visit or 5. I'm not really much of a reviewer because honestly I think everyones visit is going to be different

I've given up on Leolist, honestly seems like the overwhelming majority of ads are fake and I don't think they're bothering to get a handle on it until the bigger cities have the same issues.

Provider perspective:

I can’t speak to the local scene aside from the colleagues Im friends with (who are awesome).

Check out Twitter and advertisers section on Perb… There are a few of us Indies who are travelling over there fairly regularly and post about it.

My first tour to Victoria was a complete bust, but last month was better… Makes it tough to want to invest in touring if the numbers aren’t enticing. Treat your touring providers well and more of us will come back.

As someone who’s been in the scene over 15 years and watched the scene change it’s the high costs of existing here , my first incall in Victoria cost me $600 a month to myself , 1 day or less your rent is paid , ladies can no longer survive on what it costs to make a good living , the emotional & physical toll this industry does on a sex worker isn’t getting compensated enough to make it worth while . It’s the same in many industries now , whether it’s the over all world state or “after -pandemic “ fall out its not that overly attractive to be in this business anymore , that’s not even touching on how badly behaved men/clients have become , Victoria is not its gentle retirement-ville anymore . I can’t imagine starting out in this business right now or not having pre-existing clients with the asshats out there these days 😒

Victoria has gone from being a reasonable middle expense city to the most expensive city in the country. The income of us middle class people hasn’t gone up that much and rents have sky rocketed. We are living in a city as expensive or more expensive than Vancouver, without the big city premium in our salaries. I am sure many of the clients such as myself have far less discretionary money than we used to, that translates to fewer appointments. It costs more for the ladies to host as well. So, it’s a double whammy that translates to slowed activity. I will soon start looking for employment elsewhere and will be leaving Victoria. If I’m going to live in a place as expensive as Vancouver, might as well live in Vancouver and get the Vancouver bump in my salary. But I will definitely be sad to leave the island.

Nonetheless;some of our sacks will start drying out ,before the next 15-20 years are up,too.

I'm still on board with the Victoria SP scene,a true great joy of my lifetime,just like the Victoria cycling scene.

I'm probably spending about half of what I'm used to spending in the last few years, and that could be cut further. I've become more picky and discretionary with this hobby, and so not venturing out too often. There are a lot of things I've had to cut out of my daily spending to help keep afloat. It doesn't take much to figure out that if I'm making about 100k a year (approx $48/hour) then I may not be able to afford a provider at $250 or $300/hour very often. Even half hour rates are in the 120-160 range.

Times are indeed tough. AT 48/hr, your take home is approx 35 an hour. That means it would take a full days work to see a provider @ 300/hr. With rising interest rates and if you own your home, your mortgage costs prob went up 1000 per month. So while i used to see a provider at least 3 times a week, now its every other week if that. It is what it is but it prob accounts for why pooning in this city has slowed down signficantly.

I do not know too much about the agency side of things but I agree with Seamac that there are still many great independent ladies in Victoria and they are as magical as ever. Some have raised their prices and I get that as the cost of living has risen in Victoria, but some have kept their prices the same and one wonderful person has even lowered hers. Seamac's point that you have to do a bit of digging is a good one. Enjoyment is still out there!!

As a long timer, my sense is that there is less interest on the part of the ladies to want to be part of or view this as a community. That is not a criticism, just an observation. There used to be a reasonably large number of ladies (around 8-10) in Victoria who would periodically join in on board discussions or visit the chat room when it was operational. I enjoyed that interaction and was part of a smaller social group of lads and providers who would gather periodically for an evening. The SVIP parties were epic and I will always have a profound respect for what Harvi brought to the industry. Times change and one has to make the best of it.

Cost of living is high in Victoria and high in Toronto but the difference is there is very little up selling there. Most services are all included there and I know svips is fairly inclusive but the division into paid extras seems to be the way this city is going VS toronto or Vancouver. Which imo makes this more expensive and from what others have said in this thread less avaliable to most.

Is it that demand is down so costs are up VS larger cities demand is up and rates are pushed down?

I still there there are lots I great people here it just seems to cost more.

The small number of women I see are thoughtful, caring, careful, fantastic. Things are great, except that I'm older, and that's definitely not good

Folks, we don't allow complaints about pricing. Everything is more expensive than it was 10 or 15 years ago, with very few exceptions.

The ladies will charge what they like and it's up to the guys to decide who to see and how often. Both sides have bills to pay and need to manage expenses and income. Guys, there's always pornhub. Ladies, there's always a civvie job if you aren't making ends meet. Whatever happens, this isn't the place to complain about it.
