The TV show is the world's biggest commercial for an industry and their products.

It's obscene that each attendee at the AMPAS ceremony will be given a goodie bag valued at $100,000.

It's amusing you can go on the BCLC lottery Play Now website and bet money on who wins in many of the categories.
All I get in my complimentary gift bag a the BC Cattlemans Assoc. dinner, is a airline sized bottle of Canadian Club, a gift certificate for a pedicure....and a stick of beef jerky.

Speaking of nutbars.

This Republican should have stuck to Dirty Harry but he couldn't help showing his senility at the RNC.

I totally agree with you on this but not with the senility part. For the most part Eastwood has never used his fame to promote his political views and he should have kept it that way.Not to mention it was not very well thought out and IMO it was an epic failure.

Most celebrities that have Republican leanings tend not to be vocal about it as the work soon dries up not so for Eastwood as he has had such a long and successfull career both as an actor and a director that has made a lot of people a shitload of money over the decades.

As I said though I think celebrities of all political stripes should stay out of politics with regards to influencing the electorate.

This video sums up my thoughts and feelings with total clarity.

Certainly a long winded way of saying "shut up and dance." I got a minute in.

You know what I don't care about? Opera. You know how much time I spend railing against it? None.

And honest truth: the first I even knew about the Oscars coming up was seeing your post. Maybe you're just reading the wrong sites?

Ratings were down 20% this year. It seems a lot of people are beginning to tire of it being used as a soapbox for the issue of the day rather than about the movies themselves. Advertisers will be taking note and expect them to be clean of activism next year and back to business. Hollywood wants those advertising dollars and when the ratings drop companies will spend their dollars elsewhere.

These numbers are also due to a general lack of interest by younger viewers and the number of homes dropping cable service. Actually, the latter is a big part of it.

I kinda lost respect for him from that moment on. He hasn't made too many good films after that either, I think. But come on Clint, you are not a stand up comedian ... so stick to what you have been doing well lately, make good movies.

I agree. His history of directing, producing and acting spans four decades. Some of my favourite films are by Clint Eastwood. My favourite Western is The Unforgiven.

As we can see, Stand up comedy is not his strong suit.

Mind you the Repubicans were hard pressed to put any one better than a C or D list entertainer

It pains me greatly to see Joe Perry on that list.

All of those films were excellent and over a very broad time frame in Eastwood's career as both an actor as well as a director.Eastwood did some sequels mostly with Dirty Harry and the 2 films of Any Which Way But Loose/Any Which Way You Can.Sadly though the follow up sequel to Firefox was never made.Firefox was a really good movie and had a good plot.It was based on the novel by Craig Thomas.I wish Firefox Down had been produced as well as a couple of other novels written by Craig Thomas which had the main character of Mitchell Gant.

That being said I still think Eastwood came off looking like an idiot with the "invisible Obama" conversation and as much as I like his films that he has starred in as well as directing I lost a serious amount of respect for him for his blathering attempt at rallying the Republican cause. The same thing goes for Bruce Springsteen for being a Democrat stooge.
