I have been deployed to 100 mile house.....and I can hear the chopper coming to pick me up, but can't see him thru the smoke.
Have a good thought, and say a prayer for the men and women on the fire line.....and under my command.
This ones bad....and in my back yard.
See u all in awhile

Good luck and I hope it passes you by.

I'll sacrifice a goat or something in my backyard pentagram for you.

Be careful out there! This long dry spell is going to make matters worse.

Good luck....fought many a fire in that neck of the woods..used to live there. On the positive side the terrain is a lot more forgiving in the Caribou then it was at the Boston Bar fire. Wind shifts are going to be a bitch for you though.

Oh, be sure to watch out for the Emissaries of The Divine Light, I hear they are still active in that area. Hate to lose you to them.

To borrow/mangle an Irish phrase: may the wind be at your back and the rains soon to follow!

Good luck and thanks for the hard work out there.

Thank you all for your kind thoughts and words......I got to 100 mile to set up our section of fire line.....and was told just after my feet hit the ground that my guys were in Cache Creek - Ashcroft fighting another fire.
The wind had kicked up there to 75 Klms.......that damn fire grew into 700 hectares in a few hours.
I could see the mushroom cloud from the spot I was standing.......that's about 120 Klms away.
Absolute devastation.....the dry vegetation, the high wind and low humidity gave that fire the chance to turn into a firestorm......I can't talk about it much, but there will be many homes lost, and all the people evacuated to Kamloops have no idea.
By the time the big brass figured out they had kept me outta the loop, and fucked up, an hour and a half was wasted getting me to the right spot.....we did what we could, but it wasn't enough.....
I swear......even this Cowboy was choking them back.
Back home to feed and do some paperwork.....back out tomorrow morning, when air support is possible.

Just hope this fucker doesn't start to create its' own weather system and end up merging. If that fire starts to move north with any speed there's not much it can't jump between Cache Creek and 100 Mile....area around Clinton is pretty dry and they don't got a lot of protection there. Lot's to burn around Kelly Lake.....this time of the year and current conditions, I've seen it jump the Fraser. If it gets too stupid, grab a case of beer and set up on top of Lone Butte and watch it burn.....sometimes that's all you can do. Luck....

Jumped the Hwy and started west towards Upper Hat Creek, but we beat that one back pretty good.......it also is in the Lower arrow stones, and heading toward Scotty Creek....The evacuation reminds me of a war zone....and I've seen that in real life..
All those old damn Ranchers have their irrigation set on auto, and are gunning water as far as they can spray it...creating a barrier to slow it down....gotta love them old leather faced farmers.
Got into a hotspot and had to be lifelined out under a chopper, so I'm sure the spot were I was standing didn't burn, because I'm pretty sure I left a little pee puddle behind.
I'm getting some damn sleep.....oh.....and now my own place is under evacuation notice, with 30 Klms winds in the forecast.....what a cluster fuck.

I've flown a couple of different aircraft for the air attack supervisor but by far and away my favourite and the one I ended my career in was the 337. With an engine out I never had issues with asymmetrical thrust. Engine out on a regular twin usually meant the good one took you to the scene of the crash. I always made it home, but loved the 337.

Take no chances and be safe. There are old pilots and there are bold pilots but no old, bold pilots.

In Area 3-30 West of Cache Creek ....its moved into the High Country at 4200 feet.
Cooler and calm winds last night, so for now it's slowing.
Working on north west interface of fire.....More help coming for us today.
Some small injuries on my team but nothing serious....got in shit for driving an unlicensed vehicle down a road for transport from a female cop......I had " borrowed " it from a fishing resort that had been evacuated.
Unbelievable........in the middle of a 4000 hectare fire and she's worried about the registration, and the fact I was going too fast with only a fire helmet......I threw a shovel at her feet and told her too do something actually useful.
She reported me and I was officially reprimanded by Battalion Chief......he lashed me twice with two shots of Crown Royal.
It was tough but I swallowed them down, and took my punishment.....

Saturday is calling for big winds to push the fire toward a populated area again......The Coast of BC is starting to look more and more inviting......anyone know of a nice little cattle ranch for sale on the ocean?
