Self determination for women, doubling the capacity of workforce.
None of which came about in the 21st century.

I honestly can't think of anything useful introduced in the last 13 years.

Early lead (assuming it qualifies) would be 3-D printing. Some very useful stuff will come from that.

Staying power to whatever results of the discovery of the Higgs-Bosun (God Particle).

That or cheese-stuffed pizza crust.

Best invention was obviously PERB.

And that my friends is how you pay forward a 'get out of Perbatory' card.

How about gps.

I know it has a long history, but it only became comercially available around 2000 or so.

I remember going to the states along time ago and getting lost in L.A.
Out of date maps, trying to read a map and drive, finding a free way exit, all of them seemed to be on the right hand side but the ones I wanted were on the left.
Shit I was happy just to get the hell out of there.
And I have a class one license so its not like I don't know how to drive.

I just game back from a long road trip in the States.
I didn't ever look at a map or even a road sign. To be honest.
Not even worried about one way streets the gps knows them.
One eye one the gps telling me where to turn.
Easy peezy,
Voice command just tell it need gas or a starbucks or a Howard Johnson or whatever.
Slick as shit, I tell you.
Big big city or small town in the middle of nowhere, gps makes travel a lot easier.

I agree with the 3D printing, and add another technological wonder (though it seems just a little too Borg for me..) The cochlear implant that bypasses the cochlear nerve and goes directly to the brainstem!

'What a piece of work is Man", indeed...

Funny you should mention that. I just saw a piece last night when a young boy had this exact surgery done and he finally heard his first words ....

"Daddy loves you!"

It was so sweet to watch the little boys eyes light up as he finally has the ability to hear. Good one, Erica!

Modern stem cell research and medical application already.... and much more to come in this barely-begun century.

It's 31C in Winnipeg right now, so the culmination of centuries of civilization and innovation: refrigeration (ice whenever and where ever I need it), distilling (Bombay Sapphire gin), crop development, production and distribution (limes). Add tonic water=the perfect gin and tonic. Repeat as necessary.
