It's just hard for creaky old music fans like me to get excited about hardly any new artists (and remember, for someone like me, Radiohead are still new kids). When I was a kid, old folks were "Turn that down -- it's just noise." Now it's more like "Jeez, kids, that sounds just like __________, only without the great songs." And, there is the problem of weeding through all the crap to find that interesting new artist -- too much work when the new album by Bob Dylan or Tom Waits or Bonnie Raitt or Leonard Cohen or Bettye LaVette or some other old geezer is really good. And concerts in clubs? -- past my bedtime.

After checking out YouTube, it looks like her concerts would be fun. She seems more interesting than most, and is clearly not trying to be some polished pop star, but her music doesn't rival Tom Waits, or Nick Cave, or Marianne Faithfull.

Any excuse to rant about modern pop music:
I don't get Mumford & Sons or Lumineers et al. at all -- surely their fans haven't got through the discographies of The Pogues or John Hartford yet?
Any of the R&B of the last couple decades -- listening to Usher/R.Kelly/whoever or Alicia Keys/Beyonce/whatnot when there is all of Aretha Franklin, Sam Cooke, Al Green and on and on to explore? (An occasional memorable song like Rolling in the Deep, Crazy, or Fuck You does still drift through the sound-alike morass).
Anything on "country" radio when there is still Merle Haggard and Loretta Lynn and George Jones alive and kicking?
All these whiny "indie" bands that make CSN&Y sound like Metallica? Please. (I do admit liking Jack White and The Black Keys, but rock music seems to be dead.)

I will plead guilty to dismissing Rap and Hip-Hop and computer dance music as "noise" just like an old fart would be expected to. Kids used to be able to go out and see live bands at any number of venues; now there is mostly a DJ who thinks what he/she is doing is some sort of performance. Big concerts where a guy wearing a Mickey Mouse helmet twists knobs to make the disco beat go faster or slower. Get off my lawn!
