What classic movie can you not stand?

Is there a classic movie which everyone and their dog seems to love, yet you can't stand? For me it's The Graduate. Parts of it are funny, and yes Dustin Hoffman is great as always, but (spoiler alert) no woman in their right mind would EVER date a guy who fucked her mother behind her back lol. I'm willing to put up with some unrealistic aspects of a movie, but this was just ridiculous lol. Yet it's supposedly one of the best movies ever! It won awards!

How about you? What movie do you dislike and you think everybody is out of their minds for liking? :p

For me it's Citizen Kane. I get it (well maybe not) why it is so famous and hits so many top movie lists; I get that Welles invented a lot of new ways to film. I get that it was one of the forefathers of flim noire. I get that he was doing a major slam against a MAJOR figure of the day. I just don't like watching it much. I've seen it maybe a half dozen times (mostly forced by arty type Ex's) and just never got into it.

OTOH, I could watch Casablanca a 1000 times and still love it. IMO, there was never a more cool and suave on screen character than Rick.

I love Casablanca :)

I don't know if I've seen any classics that I didn't like, because I haven't seen that many. I've seen the original Planet of the Apes, Casablanca, and Lawrence of Arabia. I liked them!

I haven't seen The Graduate. Even though you don't like it, Violet, I should probably see it so that I can finally get all the cultural references. Haha.

A friend of mine just forced me to watch Risky Business. I didn't know what it was about, I just knew it was from the 80s. I said "so is this a good movie? Is it worth watching?" and he said "You just need to see it. You'll see why."

Hahaha. And I did.

Totally agree. Citizen Kane was alright, it certainly was groundbreaking in terms of cinematography, but other than that one aspect the movie's nothing special. Casablanca was awesome.

Anything with Meg Ryan , chick fliks in general. " This aggression will not stand man"
Ugh, couldn't agree more. I actually resent the term chick flick because all chick flicks suck, and I have taste! lol :p

Yeah might as well still watch The Graduate, just so at the very least you can form your own opinion about it. Plus, the soundtrack is awesome, only good part of the movie (Simon & Garfunkel). Risky Business I've never seen, I quite dislike Tom Cruise but I suppose I really ought to see it just cause lol.

Watch the last 2 minutes of Casablanca. That guy looking into Boggey. He has the hots for him. I thought it was a gay moment and really he said something to the effect this is the beginning a beautiful relationship/friendship. Well I took that as is a homosexual relationship between the two. Sorry that was my take on it. The final moments count the most and to me Casablanca is defined by its final 2 minutes.

Literally the best thing about The Graduate falls into two things: the soundtrack, and the "one word" line (answer: plastics). Otherwise I'm not quite sure myself why it's made so many top cultural references.

Risky Business... I have to admit, that was my own coming of age movie (and I guess SPs should like that movie); but I think the best thing about Risky Business was all the Michael Mann style filming, especially during the two sexy love scenes between Tom and Rebecca (ahhhh Rebecca De Mornay.... sigh). And of course, that absolutely FANTASTIC scene with Bronson Pinchot at the door, with all the hookers coming in, one after the other, and Muddy Waters' Mannish Boy playing soundtrack... ;)

The Titanic. Is the public brain dead? Can't believe people fell for that simple and predictable garbage.

Good thread.

Some have already been mentioned.
"Rosebud!" - Really did not appreciate Citizen Kane. Probably would need to learn more about the history of it to do that, but don't think the movie is worth the effort.
"I'm sorry, I can't let you do that Dave." - If I ever suffer from insomnia, I'll purchase 2001 a space odyssey. Total snoozefest.

Some that I haven't seen mentioned yet.
Blade Runner. Just horrible.
Lawrence of Arabia ran a little too long for my tastes.

Recently watched Network for the first time. Felt it was too much.....Acting!

Citizen Kane is it for me too. I've tried watching it a couple of times and I never did end up watching it all. Way over rated in my book.
