I brought it up in another thread but seems like it went unnoticed.

I (still) use Yahoo mail because I have some lady friends from my chatting days. We still stay in touch ... some times in sexual ways.

Anyways, so it has been happening for last few months. I keep the Yahoo Mail page open and every now and then, the page changes/swithes to an ad. Most of the time it is something about Shaw Communication offering gifts. I know it is phishing.

To fix it, I have to click on 'Back" arrow to go back to Yahoo. When it switches, the tab/page stays open and no new tabs or windows open.

I have tried using both IE and Chrome and it happens on both. Also, it doesn't happen on any other site. (I have PERB, my work email, porn, open all thru the day.)

I even tried updating Chrome and IE, but no luck.

May be it is just my computer or may be Yahoo has allowed some other site to do this?

Help!

You might have a adware on you browser. Those pesky things are pain in the ass.

Did you or do you regularly change your passwords?

Yahoo was hacked a few times and most recently in October 2017

https://www.theverge.com/2017/10/3/16414306/yahoo-security-data-breach-3-billion-verizon
Oh Absolutely. Soon after the hack, I was forced by Yahoo to change my password. I think it has more to do with something else.

I wonder if Yahoo got jealous of me doing some .............. bad things ... with my online female friends ....... esp because it has a female on top. (pun intended)

Once I clicked on my webpage I was on and sent the address to favorites, that day I guess there was something wrong with the site and from then on same thing for me, backspace and go forward again using the webpage menu instead of my favorite....I realized that I had an address that loaded something similar and each time I used my favorites to load it the spam was also loaded, I just deleted that favorite and loaded the webpage again then clicked the menu item I wanted and then saved that to favorites, never had a problem again.......might be worth a try if you are using a favorites link

You might have a adware on you browser.
This is a possibility.

However if only Yahoo is affected, I think the most likely reason are advertisements that are hosted on Yahoo site, which Yahoo does not properly check for safety.
It seems to be a common problem https://forums.yahoo.net/t5/Tempora...-to-suspicious-Shaw-Survey-page-s/td-p/260436

One of working solutions seems to be a browser plugin that blocks those ads. (The modern browsers already block ads, but only the pop-up kind, may miss those that redirect in the same tab.)

Another solution to consider is to use an app for email instead of the web interface of Yahoo. Settings depend on your environment, e.g. https://help.yahoo.com/kb/yahoo-mail-imap-settings-sln4075.html
It's convenient but perhaps not as bulletproof privacy-wise if you don't want to leak your IP address to contacts or cannot store any emails on your system.

Yahoo is/was painful at the best of times. I made the switch to gmail shortly before Yahoo axed all their chat rooms. That was the final nail in the coffin for me. I haven't been back to Yahoo since then.

It seems to have been fixed. Thanks Office Guy.

I was using Favorites Bar to open Yahoo. So I deleted the old shortcut and created a new one.

So far so good.

Thanks again Office Guy. We are even now. lol.
