"and that is the problem with living in, or near small interior towns. "

Try living in the north. My freezer was so large I left it when I sold out and my pantry had everything I needed to make whatever I wanted as, fast food was NOT an option.

I’m gonna try that!
I always bake mine a use Herdes salsa verde, fresh avocado and I prefer plain yogurt to sour cream but there’s just not enough filling in these. Literally a few shreds of chicken.

Another thing that’s gross at Costco are the Easy Bites ready made Tikka Masala packets. They literally taste like canned dog food and are not even remotely close to authentic tasting.

Some may disagree on this one but I’ll dint care for the Kirkland pizzas. Too much crust and cheese with too little sauce.

I do live in the North.....An hour and a half to the nearest store....two hours to Kamloops....that's if the road is passable due to snow. I can be snowed in for a week at times, and in spring the mud is so bad, I can lose my truck for a day.
I have 4 chest freezers, and one stand up....and a fully stocked pantry, that always has what I may need.
Dried fruits, two bags of flour, meow bags sugar, two cans coffee, six cans evaporated milk..etc.
Mail is delivered twice a week,.....sometimes....and it's a 2 klm drive, when I drive by the card lock, a half tank of diesel isn't enough to get me home ,and back to refill.
In my truck is a handful of kindling, a candle, a big bag of peanuts, shovels, an axe, and a wool blanket or two....

I looked at Costco.

For a single or small family you have to remember you are giving them $60 straight profit before you buy anything at all. At a few cents or dollars here and there it could take months to break even, if you are not buying thousands of dollars of stuff.

Best for people who come into the city once a month to stock up or are buying large quantities of stuff. You also often have to buy gigantic quantities to get the savings, if you don't have the storage space it is not viable.

I refute this notion.I hit Costco today and one of the items I bought was a 3.628 kilogram boneless centre pork loin and it cost just under $20.Yes I have to carve it up and then package it for the freezer but I figure it will yield me 14-16 nice boneless pork chops and a good sized pork roast.Last time I wanted to buy pork chops at Walmart $14 got me 8 pathetic porkchops that had a lot of fat and 25% of each one was bone.Another good example though I did not buy one today was the beef strip loins.....I saw one priced at $94 and it could have easily been carved into 14 thick steaks not to mention some trim that would yield 2-3 pounds of ground beef......go hit Safeway and price out a 10 ounce NY strip steak and you will be amazed at the price difference.

Sadly though I noticed that Costco has stopped selling the 3 pack of Hereford corned beef.....it was a good quality product produced in Brazil. It has been replaced by a 3 pack of SPAM.....epic fail IMO.

I do the same with full loins- a little time spent and you get cuts exactly the size you want.
However, I find that waiting for sale-price at Safeway is typically a better price than Costco.
But both options are excellent for those willing to do a little work.

A little insider info.....Safeway ages their beef 16 to 28 days in a cooler, using natural enzymes to age the beef at 2 to 3 degrees.
Costco electrocutes the side of beef, releasing the enzymes artificially , which is how they get a longer shelf life, as it ages in the package, and there is no need for cooling space in the processing plants.
THIS is why Costco beef doesn't bother some peoples stomachs.....

I love that this has become about all the awesome stuff to buy at Costco.
I buy frozen pork ribs in sauce for about $15 that feeds 3 people.

For single people.
Find other single people, figure out what you both need and divide it. This helps with fresh foods and foods that have expiry dates.

I buy most of my meat at Choices. Once I switched to grass-fed beef, I never went back. I used to go to the Farmers Markets but just don’t have the time anymore. Pork belly is also one of the staples in my keto diet. I live close to a T&T so I often buy it there.
I am always surprised when a member here asks to buy my beef.
Unfortunately it's all sold years in advance, and by contract, and anything that isn't saleable to my clients.....I wouldn't sell to anyone, due to age, or various other problems.
I do take that as a very high compliment, .....although I have set up a few here with beef suppliers that I know very well, and trust enough that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them, being small family run operations....one in particular who are a young couple, making a go of it, old school, with an open and honest attitude when it comes to feeding other families.
Even their dogs and horses far outlive the normal life expectancy.....and their beef out in the pastures, are an impressive sight to see.
