Both Star Wars and Star Trek. Probably more influenced by Star Trek Next Generation. Although Star Wars was much more action orientated, while STNG was more scientific, and moral teaching although with slightly less action it was more dramatic.
Other Action Sci fi TV shows were StarGate and Stargate Atlantis, which as the seasons went on you could see as our technology improved in real time the sets improved. Look at original Star Trek - then STNG, ST Voyager, and Star Trek Enterprise. Although Enterprise is set before Voyager, it had much better sets/backgrounds.
The Mandalorian with its new computer generated backscreens (instead of blue/green screens) made the actors more able to act in the scene, with actual backdrops for reference. Just awesome.
Loved the StarGate series it had more comedy added in.
The thing about science fiction to me was the moral arguments and consequences of technology which has been presented by authors from the 1940-1970s (Heinlein, Clark, Asimov, etc).
The Expanse and Altered Carbon were great to watch.
SpaceShips are neat.... So is science...
Going back the the bookstore 20 years ago, Science Fiction and Fantasy were usually in the same section. Today they are in separate places.
As for Fantasy books to be made into movies, I would like to see Marion Bradley's Darkover series done into movies. Also would like to see Dresden's Files by Jim Butcher made into movies.
The movies I hate most are Starship Troopers, mostly because they didn't follow the complete story of the author Robert Heinlein, but tried to modernize it and left out alot of content for such a short book. The book was private wishlist of Heinlein political ideas, with a 1950s male attitude written into it.
I do have to say I think about all those books/ideas/TV shows that helped shaped everyone, won't have an effect/direction on the future of mankind/humanity.
