So which is your favourite… or maybe you like both!
I like both, but Star Wars is probably my favorite. Lightsabers and space magic. I grew up on the original trilogy, but enjoy it all. Just got back from Galaxys Edge in Disneyland. I bought the Anakin Lightsaber replica.

I used to watch Star Trek Next Gen, Voyager, Enterprise.

Also don’t forget a young Famke Janssen in the episode The Perfect Mate. What girl wouldn’t go bi for her??
I don’t think anyone “goes bi”… but omg yes she’s another actress I think is absolutely gorgeous, and a fantastic actress too. I may need to re-watch this episode!

Nice to know I’m not the only adult who owns a lightsaber! I have heard the ones from Disneyland are really great quality… and if I ever go there I’m for sure getting at least one to add to my collection of prop weapons (I do Cosplay, so I have lots). Thanks!

If you want one now, you can probably get one on Ebay. The quality is very good, pretty close to the movie prop. "Battle ready". There are reviews on Youtube if you want to see for yourself. I hope you get the ones you want! I didnt want to go crazy, just bought one, but, Yoda's, Dooku, Mace Windu, Darth Maul, Vader and so many more would be cool to own.

You also dont need to go inside Disneyland to buy them. Downtown Disney is just outside and you dont need to buy a ticket to go inside, its a bunch of stores.

Thanks! I was at Fan Expo this year, and there was some pretty badass sabers there for sale, and I’m going to see if I can find the cards I grabbed from vendors, and see if I can find one of them. They were quite pricey, but I may just get one in the near future. I do want Yodas, and there is a Leia one too, I saw that I want.

If you're going to buy a few, it might be better to buy them at Disneyland. Make sure they are still available to buy though, some go in and out of production. Most of the handles are around $180 or so. I got the lightsaber combo, handle, blade, stand and belt clip for like $220.

Or go to Toy Traders in Langley. Their Star Wars displays are mind blowing

Disneyland is quite a far and expensive trip to go to, especially for lightsabers!😉

Both Star Wars and Star Trek. Probably more influenced by Star Trek Next Generation. Although Star Wars was much more action orientated, while STNG was more scientific, and moral teaching although with slightly less action it was more dramatic.
Other Action Sci fi TV shows were StarGate and Stargate Atlantis, which as the seasons went on you could see as our technology improved in real time the sets improved. Look at original Star Trek - then STNG, ST Voyager, and Star Trek Enterprise. Although Enterprise is set before Voyager, it had much better sets/backgrounds.
The Mandalorian with its new computer generated backscreens (instead of blue/green screens) made the actors more able to act in the scene, with actual backdrops for reference. Just awesome.
Loved the StarGate series it had more comedy added in.
The thing about science fiction to me was the moral arguments and consequences of technology which has been presented by authors from the 1940-1970s (Heinlein, Clark, Asimov, etc).
The Expanse and Altered Carbon were great to watch.
SpaceShips are neat.... So is science...
Going back the the bookstore 20 years ago, Science Fiction and Fantasy were usually in the same section. Today they are in separate places.
As for Fantasy books to be made into movies, I would like to see Marion Bradley's Darkover series done into movies. Also would like to see Dresden's Files by Jim Butcher made into movies.
The movies I hate most are Starship Troopers, mostly because they didn't follow the complete story of the author Robert Heinlein, but tried to modernize it and left out alot of content for such a short book. The book was private wishlist of Heinlein political ideas, with a 1950s male attitude written into it.

I do have to say I think about all those books/ideas/TV shows that helped shaped everyone, won't have an effect/direction on the future of mankind/humanity.

I like Star Trek, but I have always been a Star Wars kid.

Shame that both of them seem to have been ruined by the Hollywood machine in recent years. I'm not one of those who look through rose-coloured nostagia glasses, but damn they could have done things so much better than they actually did. Those companies who milk these franchises for fan buck are very cynical folks, with no concern for quality.... even though quality was what made these things money-makers in the first place.

Top 5 murdered franchises

I’m almost afraid to read this thread cuz I’m such a hardcore Trekkie 😂 Star Trek is objectively better as it’s been socially groundbreaking extremely progressive. First black woman in a major role, first interracial kiss on TV, polyamory, trans characters in the 90s, pro-socialism, extremely diverse cast, and now in disco we have an openly non-binary character with they/them pronouns and a fat mentally ill character who’s celebrated as an incredible commander and teacher. Trek is just more socially relevant. Not to say that I don’t like Star Wars too, it’s fun! But it’s just not as important or culturally significant. Also I have a TNG half sleeve 😂

This article was shit.

Fair point on how KM Tran was treated by internet bro-bible types, but the real slam against Disney was bringing her into The Last Jedi without a clear idea what to do with her character (or any of the characters, really). Then even worse, for the next film they caved in to the shit-flinging internet incel trolls (who they mistook for actual fans) by minimizing her character, like they were ashamed of it. Trolls are noisy, and the noise they make makes misguided people think they speak for a much larger number than they actually do.

No, the Disney executives fucked up the whole series, and then out come their pet apologists like this Esquire wanker, to blame the populist zeitgeist for the fact that Disney hired cynical dollar-chasing people who had no sense of integrity or quality. The trolls - perhaps intentionally - were their shield against all criticism.

"Star Wars was always very political" he says - that's bullshit. The original trilogy was actually not very political, aside from the fact that the Empire were basically space romans (Republic becomes Empire) who acted more like space nazis. The story was clearly influenced by WW2 stuff like Dam Busters, samurai stuff like Hidden Fortress, westerns, King Arthur, Gone With The Wind, and so on. But political commentary? Nope.

The sequel trilogy, well that was more political, but that was probably the first Star Wars stuff this millennial writer ever saw.

This guy also wrote this fluff piece about the meaning of the binary sunset in the original Star Wars film, conveniently forgetting that when that image was made in the first film, neither Lucas nor any other writer had yet come up with the future plot twist that this commentator seems to think it means. But hey, why let the facts interfere with a nice bit of clickbait?

I like both franchises.
Sadly, both franchises have taken fatal hits over the last decade. They are former shells of what they once were.

Ultimately - Star Trek (The Original Series) is my fav.
With that said, to all the Star Wars fans out there - it is May the 4th ...so

May the 4th be with you.
