Have to agree with Hubba about this show! I think it deserves its own thread. I've been watching it on Movie Central. The tone and style owe a lot to Gladiator and 300 and Sam Raimi is one of the producers. There's a lot of stylized sex and gore but also a lot of very interesting plot twists revolving around all the Roman intrigue. It's rare that I'm genuinely surprised by a plot twist but there was a doozy at the end of an episode a couple weeks ago that I did not see coming at all. And although I did see the twist coming in the following episode, it didn't make it any less poignant.

I definitely recommend checking this out if you're into this kind of stylized action and drama.

great show , just one episode left this season. hopefully the actor playing spartacus responds well to cancer treatment because I think they do want to pick the show up for a second season

I didn't know he had cancer, let's hope he beats it! He is an excellent actor and I'm sure the ladies (InTheBum too) probably like him for more than just that.

Check out what they had to do to get ready for the show. Basically a P90X boot camp.

I think he's going to have to get all the fellow gladiators on board first. My guess is that they'll have to begin planning before they can set events in motion. This show definitely keeps it interesting week after week though.

I have to say once they killed off/stopped showing the dude banging the slave boy the show got much better! I'm glad they have decided to focus more on plots twists and less on the butt buddy aspects of ancient Roman culture. Also, that blonde Roman chick (Viva Bianca) is just delicious! What I wouldn't have done to have her see that my hands were "sufficiently filled" in the bath when I was 15!!

From Wikipedia: "On December 22, 2009, a month before it premiered, it was announced that the show was renewed by Starz for a second season.[29] However, on March 9, 2010, IGN.com reported that production of Season 2 had been delayed due to star Whitfield being diagnosed with early-stage non-Hodgkin lymphoma.[30] Due to the delay, Starz announced on May 11, 2010 that it is developing a six-episode prequel to Spartacus: Blood and Sand. The prequel will feature new and returning stars, headlining the roles of John Hannah as Batiatus, and Lucy Lawless as Lucretia. Star Andy Whitfield will also briefly appear. Production begins in New Zealand in the summer of 2010 and the prequel will air beginning January 2011."

So, has anyone else been watching "Spartacus: Gods of the Arena"? The first episode really did seem to be missing the heart of "Blood and Sand" without Andy Whitfield. But watching Batiatus' machinations and all of the sub-plots around the gladiators and slave characters quickly became very engaging again. Also nice to see how some of the characters develop before where we first met them in the first season. I hope that we do eventually get to see it continue from where they left off at the end of the first season but in the meantime, I'm quite enjoying this prequel season.

Season one of this series is available to rent from video stores. As stated
it is a lot like the classic "Gladiator" movie staring Russel Crowe.
