So, has anyone else been watching "Spartacus: Gods of the Arena"? The first episode really did seem to be missing the heart of "Blood and Sand" without Andy Whitfield. But watching Batiatus' machinations and all of the sub-plots around the gladiators and slave characters quickly became very engaging again. Also nice to see how some of the characters develop before where we first met them in the first season. I hope that we do eventually get to see it continue from where they left off at the end of the first season but in the meantime, I'm quite enjoying this prequel season.
I have recorded them on my PVR but have not had a chance to watch them yet.

Sorry to necro this thread, but thought I would let people know Andy passed away today, such a shame he had such potential and he did a great job portraying Spartacus.

'Spartacus' star Andy Whitfield dies of lymphoma at 39
Sept. 11, 2011, 7:42 PM EST

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Andy Whitfield, the 39-year-old star of the cable series "Spartacus: Blood and Sand," has died.

Manager Sam Maydew says Whitfield died Sunday of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in Sydney.

Whitfield's wife, Vashti, in a statement called her husband a "beautiful young warrior" who died on a "sunny Sydney morning" in the "arms of his loving wife."

Find: More on Andy Whitfield's career

Whitfield — who was born in Wales and lived in Australia — was a virtual unknown when he was cast as the title hero in "Spartacus," a hit original series for the Starz network that made waves with its graphic violence and sexuality.

Whitfield was preparing for the second season when he was diagnosed 18 months ago.

In January the network announced that another Australian actor, Liam McIntyre, would take over the role.
Liam was Andy's personal choice to replace him and the producers honored his request.

RIP Andy, you fought the big C gallantly just like you did in the Spartacus role...
