With Priya's post about hiking, it reminded me of activities, mostly outdoors, and who do I like to do them with. For hiking, paddling, running, I find I prefer to go solo. I guess I'm an introvert by nature and always like setting my own pace and enjoying the entire sequence of the event, from prep to quiet coffee at the end, on my own time. Doing a solo paddle camping trip is probably top of my bucket list; obviously safer to have a buddy in case things go sideways but part of the appeal is the self-reliance required.

The exception for outdoor activities is cycling. While I can bike on my own just fine and sometimes quite enjoy a hard, solo effort, I really enjoy group rides. Anything from casual spins to eye-bleeding weekly "world championships ", it's almost always good fun!

Brought this topic up on another board and others brought up various social events like concerts, movies, etc. Always interesting to hear others' perspectives on this subject. So what do you all prefer?

does a dog count,
he is a perfect companion
except for my kids, and occasionally my sp,

I prefer just him and me,
your not alone but you are alone. he listens good.
I tell him all my stories, and my worries. he is always happy,

he is more attuned to me then people are,
I hurt myself, and you wouldn't believe how close he stayed to me,
more sensitive and caring then most people,

seems strange to say that but there is a bond between man and his dog,
we go for long wandering hikes,
he is a big fucking hairy thing and gets hot, so we follow the river, or a bank so he can splash and cool off.

I enjoy running, actually I love running especially on a track!!
Gia, you had me at "track "! <3<3<3

Track running is one exception to my "running alone" preference. When you're not even halfway thru 800 and 1200m repeats on a windy, sweltering track, misery loves company!

Awesome post man!........there is an ancient bond between man and dog that goes into time immemorial.
Having said that, although slightly different.....I've had a few horses that I've called friends.

Exactly! When I'm out on the trail with the dog, it feels like we're participating in something atavistic and satisfying ...

People come and go in our lives. That includes friends and some family members.

The thing that always remains a constant is the mutual love between me and my dog.

That's the real "til death do us part"

I went to a concert alone for the first time on Thursday. I thoroughly enjoyed it since I was on my own schedule. I'm looking forward to my next one in September.

Yes going to movies a lone works Because you only have to satisfy your own choices in what you like.Don't have to share the pop corn or nachos and don't have to explain the movie to some one lol.

I try to go to movies with others sometime but it seldom is a great experience.
Of course you are never alone in the movie theater
It a shared experience ☺

Use to love walking at the beach in the middle Bob the night ,stare at the moon and be in contemplation of life
