should girls play on boys teams

Damaged,

The only opinion(s) I've dismissed are yours because you started out in your original post by insulting me. (If you feel the need to deny that then perhaps you need to reread your original post.) Not a great start. Saying that I am fond of dismissing people's opinions is an assumption. So.... perhaps you should grow up. You started your original post with an insult to me, I would say that is an immature act. As for getting along well with Anita, I doubt it as she thinks girls should play on boys teams and I don't. I also haven't insulted any men or said mean or nasty things to them so perhaps you should gain some more perspective and knowledge before trying to analyze and compare others. Did it ever occur to you that perhaps Anita is that way on purpose because it's part of her act? (She does specialize in men who want to be degraded and what better way to uphold her image than by being insulting on the message board? If it's not an act, then I really doubt we would have anything in common at all because I like men and find them to have value and worth, just as much as any female.) As for her posts, act or not, she spoke her mind, it's a free country, and insulting her by bringing her up in this post when she hadn't even weighed in on any of our conversations shows a complete lack of forethought, rationality and decorum. Very bad form.......

I think majority of the males would prefer if the women would just play in a women's league instead of trying to crash/disrupt a men's league;) :p  :D
I agree. Females should stop trying to disrupt/crash the guys leagues. The guys don't try to disrupt them. The gals should spend that time and energy on developing their own leagues on par, (but different), with men's leagues. They will get more females who get more recogntion which in turn begets more attention on women's sports and in turn, more funding as their profile becomes more noticed. There's room for almost everyone on this planet. We don't have to be together all the time. That might actually help build resentment so it's better to leave well enough alone, let the guys be guys and the gals be gals. Equal but separate.

I know alot of guys who would get just as excited watching their girlfriend play a game as they would watching guys play, and they beleive that women should be able to play sports, but no way would they put up with a guy knocking down their gal, so therefore the potential for another problem also arises. What happens when a gal gets hurt? The guys aren't saying, don't come near us, or don't play sports, they're simply saying, give us space once in a while. So... they should get it. Just like us gals. I wouldn't want guys to invade my aerobics class, why should I invade their sport? I would just go start my own league and make a name for myself in my own way.

i think...

i think the question should be whether or not there is a girls team in place, in that sport.

for instance, when i was in high school, i had an amazing shot in hockey. holy crap was i accurate, and just had impeccable timing. problem...no girls team where i am from.... so i would've HAD TO play with boys. I opted not to, because I was also interested in a variety of other activities including student congress, forensics, and volleyball, plus...my boyfriend...so I didn't really feel the need to play hockey.

later in life, (though not much), i joined the Army. well guess what boys, basic training in the US military is Co-ed.... and I hate to break it to ya, but the girls taught the boys a lesson or two quite a few times.

we were pushed to our ability, both physically, and mentally, and as females, we were amazingly skilled at what we did, including qualifying with our weapons.

i think this isn't a question of "if girls can match up", or "play like boys", its a question of options. do these females, for instance, who would want to play hockey, have any other alternative?

if there are none, thats not her fault, and i think she should be allowed to play. if there is a womans league, well what the hell. of course she should be in THAT. and you're right, it would be sad because the "girls team" would be the leftovers because the "good ones" would be on the guys team, so thats just not right.

Of course I am against it. I just read another opinion piece (from a woman) in the editorial of the local rag that it is "common sense" for a capable girl to play in the boy's league. And that such sports are where men can remain boys all their lives (which gets her off topic and shows her objectivity, doesn't it? It sure discredits her). She addresses such issues as whether or not boys will play differently if a girl was playing. My feeling is she doesn't have a clue about contact sports or the behaviour of males. This proponent of "rights" has no common sense, as is typical of most of them. And as usual, these people fail to adequately address the equal rights of the counterbalancing parties, such as whether or not boys should play in girls' sports. I for one would love to get into the locker rooms of the females in sychronized swimming.

if your football is soccer i was playing with boy hard cord as a guardian.. no ball was going in my net... i was doing better then most team.. and my team was champion! when the gal is good at it.. i think they should give a try before those boy didn't want me.. then they figure out i was the one they were looking for:D

I'm against segregation in sports. People are people. Play together.

Sexist stereotypes about people's abilities are just that- sexist stereotypes.

Exceptional females in some sports may be able to qualify for male teams and should be allowed to do so without any special consideration whether there is physical contact or not. Clearly this will be the exception.

I'm not sure why this thread popped back up about 7 months after it died.. but...

If there are going to be seperate gender based leagues/teams then it is important to the survival of the girl's leagues/teams that the best girls not be allowed to move over to the boy's teams.

If there aren't going to be seperate gender based leagues/teams then it is important that there be NO rules in place that mandate a certain number of girls or boys per team or anything other than those who make the cut, make the cut, those who don't, don't.

I wonder....

if Tiger Woods or VJ Singh suddenly decided they should play in the WPGA, they would of course win all the time and take all the prize money. It would be fair to allow men to play in the women's league, yes? There would be no uproar from women, right?

I sure hope the female proponents of the "right" for females to play in men's leagues have the guts to defend the "right" of Tiger Woods to play the WPGA.
It goes all the way. If women are allowed in mens sports men should be allowed in womens sports. Thing is it moves onto all men/women gym clubs...and hey...I'd like to join an all lady yoga club. It will bust my balls but I'll do it for the scenery! :D

When I was about 8 I played on a soccer team that allowed girls to play on a boys team. I was one of two girls in the whole town who openly played soccer.I really loved playing with all boys. I was a tomboy and was in serious denial about actually being a female lol

I don't see what the problem is. If they can handle it then let them. Most women can't compete against the top males, and in many sports none can. But in those sports (or any sport for that matter) where or if a woman is physically capable, then they should be allowed to do it.

Women have separate events to allow them to compete, since most can't compete at the same level as men. If you didn't do that it would shut most women out of sport. Allowing men to compete in women's event is therefore inappropriate.

What misogynistic cave dwelling troglodyte selected NO?? apparently 59 don't believe a woman can actually do some things as good, if not better than a man. In the sporting arena.

Women can do and play whatever they like. Why because IT'S A SPORT or a GAME!
Instead of another shameless attempt at trolling for brownie points here with the ladies, why not actually make a logical argument to support your position one way or the other as many have in their comments?

This thread is about girls...not women.

While I believe girls should be allowed to compete with boys, it should be about skills and not a political correctness agenda and filling quotas for any number of reasons.

In the adult world there have been cases where women compete with men and it really just becomes a side show circus act that is about money and TV ratings. Michelle Wie played a couple of tournaments on the PGA tour and this meant that a man had to be left out of that event. She played decently but never made the cut. It made for great headlines and TV viewing...and she beat many men in the field who also missed the cut but it was not good for the game.

Special invitations to these sorts of events are wrong. However, if she qualified through the normal process that would be a completely different story. But the overwhelming evidence makes it pretty obvious that it is extremely difficult for a woman to compete with men at the elite level in sports.

I don't have an issue with girls and boys playing in the same until the girls are 12 or 13. After that, an EXTREMELY small percentage of women are able to compete once puberty sets in for the boys. While girls traditionally hit puberty earlier than boys, once boys do, their muscle mass increases quite a bit and in a very short time, girls will be utterly dominated and putting themselves at the risk of serious physical injury.

At the professional level, the goal is to have the best players play for your team, regardless of any factors. However,as of yet, no woman has shown the ability to do so, the only notable exception being Billie Jean King. I always laughed how women thought this proved that women can compete in sports with men. All it proved was SHE could but not women kind as a whole.

As others have said, this doesn't make women inferior to men or anything. Nature designed men to have the tools to be better athletes Personally, I think women's sports and female athletes don't get the credit they deserve. They train as hard and deal with the same struggles, just the maximum result, while quite good, will not hit the level of a man. Nature gave men certain attributes and women certain attributes that make one gender better at certain things than the other. It's not good or bad, it's just the way it is.
