I don't have an issue with girls and boys playing in the same until the girls are 12 or 13. After that, an EXTREMELY small percentage of women are able to compete once puberty sets in for the boys. While girls traditionally hit puberty earlier than boys, once boys do, their muscle mass increases quite a bit and in a very short time, girls will be utterly dominated and putting themselves at the risk of serious physical injury.

At the professional level, the goal is to have the best players play for your team, regardless of any factors. However,as of yet, no woman has shown the ability to do so, the only notable exception being Billie Jean King. I always laughed how women thought this proved that women can compete in sports with men. All it proved was SHE could but not women kind as a whole.

As others have said, this doesn't make women inferior to men or anything. Nature designed men to have the tools to be better athletes Personally, I think women's sports and female athletes don't get the credit they deserve. They train as hard and deal with the same struggles, just the maximum result, while quite good, will not hit the level of a man. Nature gave men certain attributes and women certain attributes that make one gender better at certain things than the other. It's not good or bad, it's just the way it is.
How does Billy Jean King qualify as an exception? Her victory over Riggs would be the equivalent of Serena Williams beating a 56 year old former tennis great like Bjorn Borg today.

Riggs was a moron but saw a chance to make some money. He was 55 when he lost to King who was under 30.

There are always exceptions.
I am not sure why you inserted that clip. I am curious to hear about these exceptions because she would not be one of them. She loves football but she could not make any professional team. At 5' 8" and 360lbs, let's be real here.

She qualified for the 2012 Olympics in London which is an accomplishment by itself and finished 10th in her weightclass...competing against other women.

Isn't it true that at the junior level, the actual 'contact' part is minimalized? And aren't most 12 year old girls bigger than 12 year old boys, as an example?

It isn't like at the pro level where the expectation is anyone under 200lbs is going to get annhilated by a 300 lb football player.

If it weren't for mixed team sports at these younger ages, the Olympic Women's Hockey teams wouldn't exist, and the Canadians would have fewer gold medals.

Plus the entire thread is 6 years old, isn't it? Is there a reason to resurrect it?

Isn't the title of the thread about "boy's leagues"?

"View Poll Results: Should girls be allowed to play in boy's sports leagues?"

She did pretty well in the boy's leagues as far as I could see:)
I questioned someone using Billy Jean King as "the exception" to women competing with men at an elite level and the next post was you suggesting there are always excpetions.
Anyhow, I think girls should be allowed to compete with boys as long as they are just as good as the boy who would otherwise be on the team. I believe Mangold was a 3rd stringer on her team...so we can't conclude she did "pretty well".

Ok, she wasn't good enough for you:)

How about you competing against her in weightlifting? LOL
She has actually done well for herself considering her physical limitations. I'll take her on in weightlifting but she'll have to come down to my weight which may be an issue considering she outweighs me by 170lbs. :D

Actually, I have seen no physical limitations there. Unless you want to call the weight of a sumo wrestler a limitation ;)

Because you know that she would lose all her strength if she did that :)
On her, or on a sumo wrestler, 360lbs on a 5' 8" frame is morbidly obese.

Why would she lose all her strength? the bronze medalist in her weightclass (over 75KG) weighed 192lbs...pretty much my weight. And her combined lifts were around 100lbs more than the 360lber.

Yes...the bronze medalist who weighs the same as me would kick my ass in olympic weightlifting! :p

I think girls should be allowed to play in boy's leagues, if they can cut it.
I think women should be allowed to play in men's leagues, if they can cut it.

I think a fly weight should be allowed to enter the ring with a heavy weight boxer, if the fly weight can cut it.

Personally I love it as a spectator when one side gets slaughtered, and I mean truly slaughtered (the weaker side gives 1000% effort, but gets completely decimated). I'd like to see lots of that.

I'm all for equal rights, just as long as there are equal consequences.

Just a new member seeing what we have hidden in the basement. :)

As far as women competing with men in contact sports, if they have the body mass and skills to do it why not. However, if you have a male and a female hockey player with equal skills but she is a bit smaller she will always lose out in a check. Not that women can't check, just gets down to physics.
