Lots of time with my SO.
Lots of time with our dog.
Too many hours at the computer every day, but it pays the bills. And actually, I like the work.
Stay away from Vancouver. Since I'm not seeing SPs in this era of COVID, Vancouver really has nothing to attract me.
Whatever food and drink happens to appeal to me when I'm hungry or thirsty.
Early to bed and somewhat early to rise.
Spend several hours a day without thinking about Justin Trudeau or Donald Trump.

Good question and fantastic to see people responding with positive examples of self-care. Wish I could add to the positive side but I can't.

The only two self-care items I do is take a vitamin once a day and have 30 to 40 minutes of a horizontal workout on the weekend. Sex does a body good.

Otherwise I am the most unhealthy (once a day eating) vegetarian in the world who has pizza three times a week and eat eggs or fake meat products the rest of the week.

Work seven days a week. Up to 14 hours a day (Sundays only 4) Sitting at my desk and rarely getting up to go anywhere but to meetings.

For my mental health, I complain to my employees about every rule and regulation our company establishes and I encourage my team to break the rules.

I dish out sarcasm like it is an Olympic Sport and I make jokes about everything. Oh and I pick on and antagonize Republicans. They are easy targets.

Actually I don't understand how I am still alive with no exercise and poor eating habits yet at my last check-up my Doctor exclaimed that I must be exercising regularly because the blood tests and BP results have been really good LOL.

So how do I get the good results? I cheat. I learned that if I get my blood tests around noon instead of first thing in the morning I drop 15 years off my age.

SO Back to the question of self-care I would have to say perhaps that my self-care is a "don't care" attitude. Knocks wood.
May take care of yourself leave healthier than may you can stay in hobby longer?

i know this feeling ? do you have someone to talk to? I recently went back to therapy and it’s been the bomb dot com
You should seek professional help. Wish you well, take care.
We in Winnipeg have help on phone to talk to person.you must have some some service you can use?
I have tried talking with someone. Trouble is, I can't afford it and it doesn't work. Also tried medication, but that was nightmarish.

My apologies Charlee, this was supposed to be an upbeat thread... carry on.

There are some newer options that are a bit more affordable, like betterhelp.com
Sometimes it takes time to find the right person, and the right meds. I went through several counsellors and three different kinds of meds before I found what worked for me. Don’t give up on yourself! You deserve to feel better than this. ? don’t apologize for needing help or feeling down, all of us do sometimes.

Don't apologise. You were on topic - you just didn't have answers, yet.

Having put it out there, you might even find that some of the ideas offered in response are useful. Even just the fact that Charlee takes the time to offer thoughtful replies is uplifting, isn't it?

Or like even if it isn’t uplifting that’s cool too ??‍♀ you’re still a human being who deserves to care for yourself whether it makes you feel better right away or not. Try treating yourself like a child, that’s what I do when I’m really struggling:
Grumpy? Take a nap
Hungry? Eat your vegetables then you can have some ice cream
Bathtime with bubbles and toys (whichever kind hehe)
Keep your room/house clean before you can watch tv!
Watch cartoons made for all ages like avatar: the last airbender or steven universe
Go to bed on time
Eat a good breakfast

back to basics ?

I am rarely serious and rarely helpful but loneliness and depression sucks. Not sure the above link can help but it might be worth a try.

Also if you are so inclined you might try reaching out to a Pastor, Priest, Rabbi or some individual who is responsible for the well being of people.

I have a lot of issues with churches and their interpretation of god for their own purposes but there are some good thing in relation to caring. Just don't drink the koolaid or see a Pastor name Jimmy Jones. Talk doesn't have to cost you.

I was laid off a couple of years ago and after a couple of rocky years I kicked myself in the ass and started walking/exercising, drinking less, eating better and being okay with myself....I'm having the time of my life , pooning and partying.

My life hasn’t changed much during this pandemic....but the neighbours dropping in to visit has grinded to a halt.
Ill still run a liner down to the coast full of finished beef, if the order is small enough, otherwise I’ll have them shipped by cattle liners....so that’ll get me to civilization about every six weeks or so.
About ten years ago I spent about 6 months completely alone, never seeing another soul....it was winter, and the road had given way, so the only way out was snowmobile.
I had enough food, and what I did run out of, some neighbours left in a cache about 10 miles away....you can do complete isolation if it’s necessary, although you end up learning an awful lot about yourself, and what your made of.
My house was spotless, I found I was a half ways creative cook....and I have 679 hardwood oak planks downstairs on my house floor.
I spent hours slamming a punching bag, cleaned all my guns twice, which took about a week, cleaned and polished my horse tack, then did some leatherwork repairs on them.
All the while caring for my stock, during the deep freeze....

I suppose this winter I will count the hardwood planks in the upper floor of my house...and make a trip or two down to the lower mainland....Does anyone know if Tiger Spa has parking for a diesel hauling a stock trailer?

It is extremely important to take a day off from this crazy crazy world. Here is what I have been doing for quiet sometime to keep sane and happy.

1. Hit the gym.....hit it HARD. I'm one of those guys who like to breath hard and sweat at the gym
2. Eat CLEAN. Don't get me know wrong, I love eating new food and try different cusines. I do love my burgers and fries. But 90% of my diet it clean...& I don't over eat.
3. Digital detox
4. Stop giving a FUCK about every single little thing. Read The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck by Mark Manson and you know what I'm talking about

1. Weed, weed, weed
2. Loud music (good with weed), which can lead to loud, somewhat rhythmic clapping so I can pretend like I'm at a show
3. Scalding hot baths
4. Discovering the wonders of nature

As a single, older gentleman (he writes as he self promotes the gentleman aspect ..) living alone my sanity routines are pretty straightforward. All in addition to keeping in touch with my kids and various friends and in no particular order, all intertwined with my work and all important to et moi:
  • maintain a schedule of eating well and getting proper sleep (and that included me bucking up 6 grand a while back for one fuck of a nice bed!)
  • regular aerobic + weights in my 3-5 times weekly workout.
  • lucky enough to have an infrared sauna that I added a very nice small sound system to so the post workout or early morning sessions are meditative as well as really good for me.
  • got reintroduced to the art of sitting in my living room with the fireplace on, enjoying a dram and reading. Yes reading. Books.
  • wood working - I fitted out my garage with a kick ass shop all on wheels so I can still get my car in. Have been building for years but just got into making layered picture frames and have been gilding with amazing effects.
  • really enjoy cooking. The whole process from gathering the ingredients to the final meal. You tube has been a real friend.
  • and of course. Sex. Good sex. Anytime of the day or night with a wide range of lovely women.
I think I'm still sane. Really hope a vaccine shows up soon.

2. Sleep. Not too much and not to little Weekends to catch up sometimes
3 Working out. Not everyday But something aerobic for 15 mins 3x a week
4 Eating well. Again not too much or little
Variety , I like to cook something different
