glad(and surprised) you agree that "white boy" is racist.

btw, most of your apologetic scenarios are out of date.

eg check the leaders of Latin American countries and you'll find some are native or mestiszo(sp?)

what's wrong with eating "special" food?fyi, there are culinary delights out there,it is not a bad idea to take a break from your peanut butter&jelly sandwiches.

one last thing....check a calendar,it's 2013....you seem stuck in an earlier age.
50% of the leaders of Latin American countries are mestizos. But have you seen their cabinets, ministers, etc.? Overwhelmingly European, like 90%. But before the last decade, 100% of Latin American leaders where European and 99% of their other politicians were European. It is only recent years that things have BEGUN to change.

There is nothing wrong with eating "special" food, that's not the point I'm making. The point I'm making is that being brown, asian, black, anything that is non-white is considered "exotic"; if you want a world of racial equals, nobody should be considered exotic because that means that someone else is considered the "standard" - the standard of norms of behaviour, the standard of beauty, the standard of culture, the standard of institutions, the standard of religions, the standard of political structure, the standard of financial transactions, in other words - the way the whole world is made.

It's 2013, I am not stuck in an earlier age - at 2013 we should have been much further along than we are now, we are pretty still living life like it was the 1960s because not much has changed since then - at least not enough to say we are equals and for someone to cry foul at being called "white boy" like it was such a humongous injury and equal to being called "black boy". And just so you know, personally I would not use "white boy" on anyone - not because of the principle of not being racist, but because someone has to be the bigger person in this so that even those who have had the advantage all along, who are incredibly ignorant against those he had advantage over, can feel like they are being treated "equally" - so that we can eventually improve things.

The comment was mentioned shortly after last week's game by one of the broadcasters on TSN and he said Bruce said, "Favourite white quarterback."

It is possible the broadcaster changed the comment to be more PC, or the quote was correct.

normisanas wrote "not much has changed since the 60's" Read that quote again.

compare Vancouver's statistics re ethnic population today to the 60's,normi.that should give you a clue.

as for the term "exotic"....I think you'll find white girls who use that term to describe themselves, possibly even
here on Perb ads.

re the movies....unless your viewing is restricted to TCM you'll find non-white heroes, eg Will Smith,Denzel Washington,Morgan Freeman
Jackie Chan,et al
and non-white beauties eg Jada Smith,Vivica Fox,Nia Long,Lisa Liu,Michelle Yeo.

seriously, you should get out to a movie now and then.

if you still stereotype Asians into accountants and are surprised to see Afro-Amer's as doctors and lawyers then I
guess you are unable/unwilling to see that times have changed, i.e. this ain't the 60's.

as for Obama, yes he is scrutinized, but what president is not?goes with the job.

Your comment "the world was made in your image".....who made this world?if it was made by whites, why did they do it and
not some other race?

Those are EXCEPTIONS. You still can't see that the world is run by people of European heritage? You're blind then. As long as the world is predominantly run by people of European heritage, things like calling some random guy "white boy" pales in comparison to everything else that it's not worth even mentioning and they can cry their tiny little hearts out that they've been soooo mistreated.

^ Up until the year 2000-ish, you would've been correct. European markets dominated the economic engine of the world. Now, you are very much mistaken...all that you see around you is a hold over of a vanquished age.

As for the racial issue discussed in this thread, people desire to be special, to have power over others. Whether that means controlling them physically, or having the ability to be racist and rude with impudence is neither here nor there. If racism was eliminated, a lot of people would no longer be "Special", and they don't want that...even if it means many more people would have their social status improved.

Greed for power transcends skin colour. Deal with it.

London, New York. These are the financial centers of the world. There's no threat of it going anywhere.
USD is the default currency for oil transactions. There's no threat of it going to the RMB. Maybe the Euro, but not the RMB.
European nations (and the USA and derivatives such as Canada, Australia, etc.) hold roughly 80% of the world's wealth. With that comes power. With power comes domination and cultural expansion.

At best to your argument, China has become the manufacturing center of the world - but it's more like where all the sweat shops and dirty industry lies while the European countries keep their environments relatively clean. China is still a 2nd world developing country. In 2012, the per capita income of a Chinese is 92nd, after Bosnia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_(PPP)_per_capita

What are you really asking? If you are asking if they have the right to do so, I would say, yes - by virtue of the fact that anyone would naturally if they were in power. But that doesn't change the fact that if you agree the world is made in your image, it is still in your image. That's what the actual problem is: if the world reflects who you are, you wonder why others simply can't just adopt your norms and be just like you. You wonder why people from other parts of the world are so rude as to slurp loudly in restaurants, like they're some kind of barbarians. You wonder why they can't seem to follow "common sense" rules of driving. You wonder why for example, Asians hate being called "Oriental", or Blacks call each other "N****r" but hate it when Whites use that word on them. You wonder why a racial slur against a White person doesn't seem to get the outrage that it would against a non-white, and you put it down to this unfairness against Whites. You know what it is when the world is made in your own image? It's like not being able to smell your own body odour.

hmmm, I guess, and I stress it's only a guess, that you are saying that whites made this world you are talking about?

WHY do you suppose it was whites who made this image-of-the-world you refer to?why not blacks, for example?or Asians?

You'd be correct if China didn't OWN the US and other western nations via bond issuance. This has effectively tied China to the "west" financially, and given its investment in the west, it's "too big to fail".

Ignoring that, though, you'd still lose out on sheer numbers. China and India make up over half of the world population.... a number which will only grow. Their emerging markets will continue to gain on ours, the course is irrefutable. How long will it take? I don't know, but it is inevitable.

Re: the "blacks"

I believe there is a difference in the spelling of the *N* word involved. One spelling is tied to the racist repression of the blacks, the other a modification to represent their empowerment. "gga" instead of "gger". There was a story done on Richard Prior that touched on this, where his wife made something of a social blunder at a party due to her ignorance of this small but significant change (and the fact that she was white didn't help).

no you didn't normi...why was it the whites made this image?
you either cannot or will not aanswer this.

you have twice told me I am "crying my little heart out"...news flash normi, I'm not.
in the original post I pointed out a discrepancy....according to the bleeding-heart do-gooders we are all EQUAL,which I wonder if you
agree with.

I merely pointed out that a minority can get away with language that the above-mentioned do-gooders abhor...except it's ok
because of historical injustice

quick reminder..it is 2013.

you accuse me of being "blind" well yes, I am "color" blind
and my vision is good enough to know we are not in the 60's.

back to my question that you are unwilling/unable to answer....WHY was it the white race that made this "image-of -the -world" and not some other?

after last week's CFL game where Montreal Alouettes beat B.C. Lions 39-38 with 3rd string QB Tanner Marsh leading the way,the always outspoken Als' WR,
Arland Bruce,an Afro-American, called Marsh his "Favorite White Boy."

this comment caused nary a ripple, nor should it.

however, picture for a moment, the outcome had Marsh said of Bruce, "My favorite Black Boy."

the self-righteous braying of the PC lunatic fringe would be heard from coast to coast.
at the very least, Marsh would be forced into some form of "sensitivity training" classes
to expunge his guilt.

yet, when Bruce made his remark, the silence was deafening.

makes one wonder if only whites are capable of racist comment?
Meh, whatever. But I will say, I was sorry to see the Lions let Arland Bruce and Geroy Simon go. I don't think they've recovered from that and besides, they were two of my favourite negro receivers.

As you seem woefully unaware of what racism actually entails, this entry doesn't make any sense.

A man saying “I’d like to smack her” needs anger management, but a woman saying “I’d like to cut off his balls” is perfectly acceptable.
No, she's seen as a psychotic bitch.

Muslims can scream about killing infidels, but a preacher burning the Koran risks world destruction.
No, they're both seen as extremists, fundamentalists, and destructive.

Gays can have a parade every year, but saying “I’m proud to be straight” is an attack.
Saying "I'm proud to be straight" is not viewed as an attack by any gay people I know - and I know about thirty of them. People wonder why there's no "straight pride day" - and my response is that EVERY FUCKING DAY is "straight pride day".

Taking a friendly "white boy" comment - which is clearly meant to take a historically racist context, turn it on its head, mock it, and have fun with it - should not be confused with double standards that actually matter. It's the old complaint about why "black power" was okay and "white power" is not. And it's because one does not necessarily have to be "against" whites. But the other most definitely has to be taken in a context against non-whites.

I understand why people bring up these 'double standard' discussions - but not all of them are of equal merit, if people stop and think critically about them.

yes and that's because it's so easy to say "dumb white" is racist and "dumb asian" is racist, both say "dumb" to a race, and both white and asian are races, so they must be equally offensive! The world must be really, really simple eh? But I'll bet these same people would hate to lose the genetic lottery and be born asian!
