What is really stupid about this is that we are talking about a city who's budget is so blown that they had to dip into emergency funds to keep the streetlights on for the rest of the year.

Somehow they have plenty of resources to investigate victimless crime?
They aren't investigating the crime.

#1: If anyone is investigating it, chances are it's probably a state issue, not a city issue.

#2: They don't have jack, and if they do, they can't do anything with it. It's all about politics and whatever you define the home life as:). By releasing the statements they scare people into not doing it. If by chance they do actually have names, then they might call up the families involved and put down a bit of pressure, but in reality anyone with half a brain won't face charges. That doesn't stop the actual call from coming though. Nor does it stop the idiots who believe they are screwed and basically turn themselves in. (Doesn't cost much to actually do this part, relatively speaking)

#3: Again, politics. Someone dies, no one cares, unless they are high up. Someone gets caught having sex (legally or illegally) and it can be exploited, the public eat it up. If the mass public (anywhere, because a similar situation could easily rise up anywhere, and often do) eats it up, that's what makes the news, adn that's whats targeted. The more the public eats it up, the more money there is to be made by the media and the government. One day they're holding up a sign saying "Give us money so we can hunt the killer" and getting money for it, but that's run dry. Now that people are focusing on this subject they hold up a sign saying "Gives us money so we can hunt the prostitutes" (Using their words, not mine) and the public forks over the money. Because of that, businesses fork over money or face being shunned for not being the good guy. Government wins and life goes on as normal.

-------------------

Really, if you're going to even discuss this subject you should have a deeper understanding of how the real world works. I don't mean to be insulting, but it's precisely comments like the one I quoted that cause people to panic or get frustrated over the wrong thing.

Actually I suppose the comment really doesn't matter here at all given the location of the subject matter, but hey, still ticks me off seeing it.

You'd be surprised how much money a government actually makes. A lot of it isn't even wasted on corruption like a lot of people think. Sure you got people skimming off the top, but think about it, I have yet to find a form of government that can't legally rip off the people. In the US, for example, Senators can lobby to have a pay raise, and it's generally put through with no argument because the only deciding factor is other Senators who want their pay raise passed next time. Scratch my back and I'll scratch yours. The other big money waster is simply wholesale decisions. When you deal with numbers that a typical government deals with, you don't see the real savings. You can buy service A which will get the job done a few million dollars cheaper, but service A does a poor job or requires maintenance fees which aren't factored into initial costs. Service B would have cost more, but wouldn't have required half the overhead. So you're left with a 100,000 bill from Service A which costs you an extra 25,000 a year for 25 years, instead of Service B's price of 200,000 with an extra 1,000 a year for 25 years. (Now replace Service A and Service B with the millions of products and services utilized by a government, and you got a lot of waste)

Edit: Probably hard to understand most of this post. Got distracted and lost my train of thought a few times, and now it'd take a few days and a essay paper to explain everything.

just tried to Access the review board in Seattle. Got bounced 5 times. LE must have shut them down.

DWB
More than likely it was either the owner of the board that took it down temporarily, the hosting service for the board took it down when they saw the news, or the hosting services was pressured to take it down. If it's either of the latter, then the owner of the board can easily sue the hosting service. It takes quite a bit to get a web site taken down, but normally all law enforcement has to do is put pressure on the hosting service and they cave in without a fight, which gives the victim a legal foothold.

My comment is causing panic? I don’t think so. Causing frustration? Maybe, or maybe it’s just me expressing my frustration.

Hmmm. Awfully presumptuous of you to assume that I do not know how the real world works. I actually laughed out loud at the idea that I don’t know how much money the government makes/wastes. You have now idea who I am or what I do for a living. I am more aware than you think.

On your numbered points:

1.The arrests and the investigation that led up to the arrests were carried out by the King County Sheriff’s Department. I don’t think the Washington State Patrol will be involved.

2. Your are absolutely correct. They don’t have jack.

3. Correct again

Maybe my use of the word investigate was off. Maybe you are right and there really is no more investigating happening at this point. There are still the post arrest costs that will continue to add up. These are my tax dollars. I don’t like the way they are being spent on this.

I can't see how an agency can make giving a verifiable work # a requirement of booking an appointment. Just say you are retired, self-employed, independently wealthy, etc. and therefore don't have a verifiable work #. I also give my head a shake at the people who pay with credit cards, whats up with that?

Again, I think you fail to appreciate the situation in Seattle.

You say, "I don't have a work number". They say, "Ok, how am I to verify that you are who you say you are?"

You say, "I promise!"

They say, "Sorry, you will have to contact someone else, I cannot see you without verification".

You can certainly get away with not giving a work number, if you have references from other escorts. But how did you get those other escorts to see you? They will have gotten your phone number, home address, or whatever, which they will have written down and passed on to whoever they were giving the reference to.

Giving a work number is what you do when you don't have any references from other escorts.

I'd also like to point out that it's not unreasonable that the escorts in Seattle expect references or other ways to verify the clients. They are trying to avoid arrest.

It is easy enough for the clients, really. Meet the escort, drop an envelope on the table. If she does something odd, like pick it up, look at the money, and say, "What do you want to do for $200?", he can just take the money back and walk out. No way to get arrested unless there is a discussion of sex for money.

For the escorts, however, it is more difficult, because a sizeable percentage of clients will try to discuss sex for money, and they don't want to just get up and walk out as they would lose a significant percentage of their business. Also, the escorts have to worry about the guy being a violent psycho, which is generally not something the guy has to worry about.

I agree with Chris222. You Perberts up in Canada don't have the problems with LE like we do here in the states.

Prostitution is legal in Canada!!!!!!!!!!!!! There are just some things conected with it that are not legal. I have found this to be the case in all of the Commonwealth Countries that I have visited.

In the states, PROSTITUTION IS ILLEGAL!!!!!!!! And anything having to do with it is ILLEGAL. If you offer something of value for sex (sounds like marriage to me) it is illegal; If you offer sex for something of value, it is illegal. They are trying to shut down the two weekly newspapers that advertise Escorts, using the law about promoting prostitution. I am sure, that LE went to Verizion and got The Review Board in Seattle shut down using the same law.

Earlier in this thread, I brought up the fact that this could be a money maker for King County which was Pooh Poohed.

Consider the following scenario: LE walks into your office and shows you that they have your name in GofE files. He says you have a choice, make an appointment and goto the prosecuters office; plead guilty and get deferred prosecution. Pay a $1,000 fine, keep your nose clean (i.e. no arrests) for a year and this all goes away. It will never show on your record. Your wife, family, employer et. al. will never have to know about it. You wont have to go to court. No one will know unless you tell them.

-OR-

If you don't agree to this, I will be forced to arrest you and refer this case to the prosecuter. When he brings the case to court, you will be identified to the world. Even if he declines to prosecute, your arrest is a matter of public record. Also, I might have to summon you to testify in the case against GofE, which again will be a mater of public record.

If you can afford to poon, you can afford the $1,000. It goes away. No 4 carat diamonds for your wife; no problems with an uptight employer; no problems in the future getting bonded or insurance nor will you have your credit record smeared.

If this sounds like black mail, it is. But it is legal blackmail by the government.

I will bet that most of the pooners caught up in this mess would take the first option. The county gets $1,000 for the Pooner having a 5 minute conversation with LE and a 10 minute conversation with a paralegal in the PA's office. Keep in mind that both are on salary and it doesn't cost the county an extra cent.

Even though I am considered to the right of center in my political views, I still do not trust government. This goes double for King County and the State of Washington. Every time they need money, the raise "sin" taxes i.e. gambling, booze and smokes.

I think that they just found themselves another goldmine.

Reminds of a joke...

Slow Down or Stop?

A guy runs a stop sign and gets caught by a policeman.

Cop says, "License and registration, please."

Guy says, "What for?"

Cop says, "You didn't come to a complete stop at the stop sign."

Guy says, "I slowed down, and no one was coming."

Cop says, "You still didn't come to a complete stop. License and registration, please."

Guy says, "What's the difference?"

Cop says, "The difference is, you have to come to a complete stop. License and registration, PLEASE!"

Guy says, "If you can show me the difference between slow down and stop, I'll give you my license and registration."

Cop says, "Exit your vehicle, sir." At this point, the cop takes out his nightstick and starts beating the guy and says, "Do you want me to slow down or stop?”

A reference from another credible escort is a good way to weed out LE. A work number is a useless method of detecting LE. If LE want to conduct a sting do you really believe they couldn't just set up a phone line dedicated soley to the sting. That way they could have someone pretending to be a receptionist answering any verification calls that happened to come in stating the phoney company name.

So I can see why US SPs may ask for a reference but there isn't really a valid reason that they need a work number while most Canadian SPs don't request this information.

Skinner, who got Joker back after the women were arrested, said he lived with the 49-year-old woman for four years in houses in Sammamish and Lake Stevens as he slowly became aware of her business.

When he met the woman, then moved in with her, Skinner, who runs a home-based marketing company, said she told him that she worked with masseuses.

But for the couple of months just before moving from her home to his in Lake Stevens in June of last year, Skinner said he started to realize just what his girlfriend's business was.

Yeah right the boyfriend lived with her for 4 years but didn't realize till just before he moved out what she was doing. Hopefully if she goes down she implicates this pathetic loser. At the very least get him audited by IRS and if he took one penny from her seize all his assets as proceeds of crime.

Oh, I expect the details of his immunity agreement have all been worked out already.

And you can sure as hell bet that this has NOTHING to do with a friggen' DOG! (well, maybe The Big Dog)

He may have an immunity agreement worked that would protect him from prosecution, but I wonder if he was smart enough to include anything about seizing any of his assets if they were determined to be proceeds of crime. The article says the prick who snitched has HIV and Hep C so at the very least he is getting the karma he deserves for screwing over hundreds of people.
