Rodney blew so many saves early on in games they should have won and it kind of snowballed from there. The bullpen in general has been poor and in today's game, with pitch counts where the majority of starters are done after 5 or 6 innings, you really need to have a deep and reliable pen. You look at the Jays, they add quality middle relievers like Hawkins and Lowe, then you have Sanchez and Ozuna at the end who aren't asked to pitch more than one inning, just handle the 8th and 9th innings. Winning teams don't just have the lights-out late-inning guys, they have the versatile middle relief, with situational guys like Cecil who can get a key left-handed hitter out in close games. The Mariners have other issues too, but nothing can suck the life out of a team more than a bullpen costing you games.
