My results in Seattle (Comcast cable) are sucky, but so are Speakeasy's.
Their different servers vary widely on D/L. U/L is pretty consistent.
Here are their servers -- average of two trials each:

2965/361 San Fran
2132/343 Seattle
1742/359 Chicago
1594/347 L A
1438/359 N Y
1425/347 Dallas
1376/364 Atlanta
1220/360 D C

That's a 2.43 ratio between D/L extremes. Where's their quality control?

As far as i know, downstream and upstream speed doesnt have to be a 1:1 ratio. Thats just not how cable modem works. For instance, the advertised speed for shaw extreme is 7mbps downstream and 1mbps upstream...again i could be wrong...

Looks like it depends on traffic / load. Today I get:

Up: 1285

Down: 342

Telus ADSL in Vancouver, using their Seattle server.

After looking at other's speeds. I should take a look at upgrading my Telus. Have looked into it by the way?

Telus mun:

1288 down
529 up

These fuckers just cut the unlimited down to 30 Gigs/month. And the shitass software they use to monitor it seems to have a monthly margin of error that exceeds the cap itself.
Yer best to check the forums at dslreports.com

what's in a speed

Unless you're doing all your surfing/downloading between you and shaw or you and telus the "extreme" speeds don't mean much. Meaning, the link between you and your ISP usually isn't the bottle neck. Definitely not worth the extra $$ IMHO

What's in a speed

Oh I think high speed is great. But I really don't think a person is going to see any benefit above the 1 meg down speed as there's bound to be something slower between you and your destination in most cases. So to pay for the "premium" high speed packages ISP's are starting to offer seems like throwing money out the window........to me at least. I'd def. like to have 1 meg down AND up though. Right now I see my up speed as a bottle neck. Mine are the same as others on Telus - about 1.2 down and 6-700 up.
