Good news about the qualifying offer today on Luongo. Next step, is to secure him on a long term deal. According to today's Sun, Luongo's price will go up from the $26 mil/4 yr deal left on the table in Florida. Hmm..maybe something in the $28-30 mil range? Works out to $7-7.5 mil a season, which would make him the highest paid Canuck ever.
I have a good feeling that Nonis will get the deal done by late this week before July 1. However, all is not lost if a deal cannot be reached quickly.. one option is to flip him over to the Sens in exchange for that Emery, Havlat, Phillips, and a 1st rounder package the Sens purportedly made to Keenan. IMO, that was a much better package than what the 'Nucks were offering anyway, so why not??
If that were the case, here's the new top line: Naslund-Morrison-Havlat; Phillips and Ohlund would be the top defensive pairing and the team could either keep Emery as a backup or flip him over to Buffalo (plus Cooke) in exchange for Biron. Problem solved!
