She will always be the only Saavik to me. Robyn Curtis in ST 3/4 was effectively a different character that happened to have the same name.

Can't believe Rebecca Howe is now gone too.

What? That sucks.

She was a fucking fox in her younger days! People tend to mention that Star Trek thing, and of course her being in Cheers, later on.
Did you know she was in a sci-fi movie called Runaway ? It's not too well known, but was shot around Vancouver in the 1980's, and may have been one of the first movies to have drones / drone weapons as a concept.
Of all the things I ever saw her in, I think she was at her hottest in this (pretty cheesy) film.
Here's a shot of her from that:

(I was pretty mad about a girl in high school who looked a lot like this. Explains the "type" I most often go for, even today.)

Condolences to her friends and family. I wasn't a big fan of her on Cheers but not entirely her fault. I felt she was miscast. The attraction/connection between Sam and Diane (Shelley Long) was palpable (and shelley was the superior actor IMO) but I never really felt there was a connection between Sam and Rebecca. It didn't seem legit that Sam was obsessed with her. Anyway, despite that, sorry to hear of her passing RIP

My opinion of Diane on Cheers is just opposite. She was the least funny character on the show to me. Rebecca Howe was much, much better as a neurotic yuppie-type. Kirstie was a great comedian. Also the running gag was Sam just kept pining for someone he couldn't have. It was a one-way street IIRC, or at least till the very end.

Kirstie Alley Dressed as Shelley Long on Her First Day on Set of 'Cheers'

Diane wasn't always funny nor was she meant to be. But her character had depth. And I felt when she was called upon to be funny her comedic sense and timing was spot on. Kirstie on the other hand I found very one note. To me lacked subtlety. Anyway, to each their own. I thought Shelley Long was amazing and had great chemistry with Danson. Didn't feel it was there with Kirstie. But hey it is all very subjective (might also be partially related to me personally finding Shelley very attractive and Kirstie not at all :) I found her looks and personality coarse)

I wouldn’t miss an episode of Cheers and also preferred Rebecca’s part more than Diane’s. You can see only push the ‘you can’t fuck me routine so far’.

I saw her in the Venice bakery on the lower road in North Van. I think they were filming the See who’s talking at LGH and the film studio on Brooksbank.

She totally caught me eye fucking her in the bakery. All tongue tied and nervous, I suddenly had nothing to say. I think it made her laugh though, sigh.

Not missing her yet. Never liked her. She really played into the badass persona which given her lack of warmth and charm didn't really elevate her game. I can't remember her from Cheers. Although I watched it faithfully at the time. Somebody mentioned she was a Scientologist. Oh well.
