What has this Swedish meatball won for us? A Pearson award? Big friggin whoop.

He never got the nucks past the 2nd round. A so-called captain who publicly said 'we choked' on the mike, after the last gam.

Loom around the storied, REAL teams that have REAL managers, but only here in nucks la la land does an idiotic moron like Gillis dreams up this Ring of Ass crap and starts retiring jerseys left right centre.

When I see montreal's greats, Lafleur, Dryden, Richard, Roy---those r Truly deserving of retiring their numbers---they're winners. And I bet detroit's yzerman, lidstrom one day, their jerseys hanging up there will make ours a desperate attempt at any marketing ploy----all categories of nucks fans: the bandwagons, nuckleheads, Knuckleheads, we should all feel sorry for ourselves, contributing to Lui's overpaid $10million this season and lack of 2011 playoff finish.

Everytime i see those nucks jerseys hanging, I wish I can burn them....

100% agree with you on this one BJH.

Save the space at the top of the rafters for people who have actually done something for us. ie won or at least got us to the big show.

I remember going to the Forum in Montreal to see a Habs game. It was an amazing place to see a game with an electric atmosphere. Crowds were spilling out afterwards and an elderly gentleman, walking with difficulty was coming down the ramp. Everyone got out of his way and paid their tribute to him.

It was Maurice Rocket Richard.

I asked "what did you think of the game Rocket?"

"Bah, they played like overpaid bums" was his response :D

Totally agree with both of you on this...the Canucks are celebrating being mediocre....its starts at the top and while Naslund had the best stats we only remember '82 & '94 and Naslund wasnt even close to doing even that ...this garbage falls on clowns like Gillis & Aquilini sisters

I don't think it really matters. It has created hype for this game, ticket prices are well up.
If you want to get their early to watch the show fine. Still a good game.
But with all these ring of honour and now this retirement game. Make them against crap teams.
Tampa is already a big game. Do it when the wild are in town.

Yeah, I thought so, too. First superstar Vancouver has had, yet.
first AND ONLY superstar we've ever had. he hasn't played for us in 12 years, yet his name is still all over our record books.

people bitch and complain about the way he left town. but i always bring up patrick roy. he left montreal under waaaaay worse circumstances. yes, he won 2 cups with the habs, so that helped. but he still went back and they honoured him.

if they won't retire #10, at least put him in the ring of honour i say.

The nuckleheads been around for 40 yrs? The players you listed are in the hall of fame. Are the canucks not suppose to retire any jersey? The players you mentioned are hall of fame players and are in the hall. The standards for retiring someones jersey is obviously lower than the hof.

To all those who don't think Naslund's jersey shouldn't be retired I guess you won't be watching the pre-game ceremony will you?

The only Canucks in the HoF are Cam Neely, Mark Messier and Igor Larionov...and in all cases, their career highlights did not happen in Canuck uniforms! Ha ha ha ha ha!

wolverine,

MM was only good when he was with the Oilers and Rangers (short time). I don't think he was that good with the Nucks, he came to Vancouver just for the big $ that JM offered, but no other GMs in the league were willing to do so, not even GSather.
As for Nazzy, I think he was as good as many great Canucks, he should not be blamed for all the Canucks failures for not making through the second round several times, it's the Canucks' management that did not address the problems/issues (goal tending with Groultier, then big Burts incident, and also the sucken defense - Baron, Sopel, etc...the defense was slow as a slug)that they had, they scored on their opponents less than they were scored by the opponents. The coach (crow) was stupid enough to just play the West Coast Express all the time even their +/- suck balls. Management went out before the trading deadlines to deal some overpaid worn out players....that did not address the secondary scoring needs.

Yes, and I would retire Bure's number before Naslund - considered they both left Vancouver in a sour note.

Beverly Hills. In the Kitchen eatin' vittles.
I find that in general, all sports have gone a bit crazy with the jersey/number retiring thing. It used to be reserved for those really special players who came along once in a generation and really a) helped the team to championships or b) changed the face of the game. It seems like now a days all it takes is a few decent seasons and some longevity with one team and their talking about retiring your jersey. I agree that it has become more of a marketing ploy and a means to selling tickets to the "big night" than anything else.
I'm not saying they can't have a night for a player. Parade them and their family out on the ice/field, give the wife some flowers, give them a car and put their name on the "Wall of Honour".
But retiring their jersey.....?

ken daneyko had his #3 retired by new jersey. but he really did none of those points u listed. yes he was on championship teams, but they prob woulda won without him. and he didn't change the face of the game. but he was a long time devil. and i'm happy nj honoured him.

by ur reasoning, linden's #16 shouldn't be up there.

That's what I'm saying. The Canucks should retire the jerseys of those who are HoF material mainly based on their play on the Canucks team. Right now the only Canucks player who even qualifies is Bure. If they are going by fan popularity then they should retire Harold Snepsts' jersey before anyone else.

The Oilers' retired jerseys all belonged to HoF players save for 2 of them.
As for the Habs...they have nearly a 100 years of HoF players, so they really have to pick and choose which number to retire. Otherwise the current players won't have any jersey numbers left to choose!
