Ladies and or Gentlemen,
Could anyone recommend the best places in Winnipeg to eat:
Prime Rib
Chicken or Beef Vindaloo
or just a great steak (preferably with sauteed onions/shrooms)
Also, I hear Winnipeg is a great place to buy shoes and boots?
Got a top 3 fav list?
Thanks!

Hi Chrisinda

I don't know if they serve onions/shrooms with the steak, but I like Hy's in Winnipeg. Right smack in the middle of downtown.

Hy's & The Keg

I have to agree with Az as to Hy's...I've had their prime rib & it was excellent.
I haven't been to their downtown location yet though. I've also had very good prime rib at The Keg. I haven't found a place yet for a good steak. I prefer mine at home on my bbq...can't beat home cooked!

Restaurant Recommendation

How about Amici's on Broadway,.....the food is wonderful, the ambiance is intimate & the service is A+.
And the desserts are to die for!

I will be entertaining an out of town gentleman there later in the month! So I would highly recommend this Winnipeg restaurant.

Thanks!

Thanks so much! I LOVE good food. I also have heard 'Winnipeg' a lot when I've asked people where they got their shoes, so I figured I might as well make sure I get to some good places!
Thanks for that link, too!

I'm probably in my house.
Rae & Jerry's lounge for steak (very cool atmosphere). When you're downtown check out "Ten Toes" on Vaughn for footwear (also a great tanning salon). It's across the street from the Hudson's Bay.

Rae & Jerry's

Lol, I was just pm'd about that place, too. You guys are so helpful!

BTW: In Regina, I would recommend La Bodega, Golf's, Moxie's and Mannos for good meals, for any of you who are interested :)

Try A Taste of India. It's in a strip mall in a shitty part of town (510 Sargent), so if you drive there in the evening, park right outside the restaurant in the mall parking lot. Or, take a taxi.

Avery's absolutely right - it's A Taste of India for vindaloo. Ivory, right downtown, isn't bad either.

There's no better place around for prime rib and steak than 529 Wellington. It's very high end and expensive, though. Rae & Jerry's is very good if imho you don't mind dated decor and the company of much of Winnipeg's 'blue rinse' set. You might also want to consider La Vieille Gare or In Ferno's Bistro for a nice sampling of French cuisine.

My current all-around favourite is a little place in River Heights called Fusion Grill.

71/4 South Osborne, new and very good! In Ferno is very good as well. Tre Visi for Italian. I also like A Taste of India. You can't go wrong with Rae & Jerry's, I'm a regular regular and have been for years and years. Kind of like being in the movie Casino. Star Grill is good and Chauve Dhoro (sp) also on Sargent has maybe the best chicken ever.

Peace Mr Green

*** Could you please provide addresses?

If not, I will look them up when I get there. I am staying at Hampton, so what are top 3 best close to there? I will have a car, but don't want to get lost!

*** Was pm'd addresses for these, thanks! ***

I sure do.;)

http://skleather.com I know of another couple that make their own and custom orders, I can get that info for you as well.

Try the Love Nest - 3 different locations

Lady Godiva on Corydon. Discreet is the largest showroom with clothes, toys, shoes and games. It's the easiest to find if you're staying downtown. I have been spoiled and found Vancouver to be very disappointing as well as San Fran for this type of stuff. Toronto was great, I loaded up!

Osborne?

I have a friend going to Winnipeg for business later this week....anything to recommend as far as restaurants/shopping on a Sunday in Osborne Village? My guess is not much for shopping on a Sunday....this is the only time they will have to check out the area.
Thx,

AZC

I forgot to mention The Crypt in Osborne Village. It's good, but expensive. http://www.cryptclothiers.com/

Restaurants around there: Meiji Sushi -- With the most excellent Martini Bar...:D

Carlos and Murphy's, Papa George's, Buccacino's and The Spicy Noodle House. I can't think of any others off hand as it's mainly shops there like "The Man Store" etc.

Corydon isn't that far off and there are several Italian joints there. I am all about Civita and Mona Lisa.

This thread has been awesome! I think I'll print it out for my trip! Thanks so much to the many ladies and gents who have helped to make sure that I eat and shop at some of the coolest places Winnipeg has to offer! I'm sure my trip will be great!

Now, to further be a pain, does anyone know of a live band playing Friday, or where it is good to hang out for a Sunday evening? I like rock, classical, blues, jazz, metal, and most new stuff. I enjoy playing pool and listening to music. I like to dance, but no offense intended: I like to hang with the mature (over 30, that mature... preferably still goofy) crowd.

I think this thread will be great for anyone who is planning to come to Winnipeg to enjoy more than just your fine and wonderful women!
