Nope they are out on the road eating their dead buddies....the real score is if you can paste a magpie that is pecking at a squashed gopher LOL.

SR

Obviously the birds and rodents you proudly boast of enjoying to kill, have a lot more brains and 'humanity' than your sorry ass does.

Way to go.

Magpies may have capabilities comparable to a dog's, or perhaps even a primate's , and are at least as smart as the raven - another bird whose mind becomes more impressive the closer researchers look. "Magpies are certainly outstanding communicators and they keep surprising me with their ability to solve problems, suggesting a cognitive framework that is probably in the higher domain," says Kaplan.

The more we study them, the more likely it seems magpies even have a rudimentary vocabulary allowing them to distinguish between a ground and an air predator, she says.

"They have incredible ability, flexibility and range in the sheer number of songs and calls they can make - there are at least seven or eight different alarm calls alone."

Kaplan has observed "inexplicable altruism" in the birds, witnessing events such as the intervention of a group of magpies to save the life of a crested pigeon under attack from a Little Eagle.

Along with their distinctive appearance and cheeky nature, magpies are most famous for their calls, especially their carolling which has been measured by Kaplan at up to 127 decibels - similar in noise to a motorbike at full pelt.

Carolling is the magpie's answer to almost every property dispute. It is so potent that scientific studies have shown that playing a recording of a dominant mapgie's song - after the magpie has been removed - is enough to enforce its territory. However, the quiet warbling sometimes practised by an individual probably has no significance in terms of breeding or territory protection, says Kaplan.

It may actually be not unlike a human humming a tune. "The context in which sub-song appears makes me tempted to designate it as a leisure activity," writes Kaplan in her book.

"To call magpie song a 'leisure activity', is to describe a function that is generally not acceptable in science. All behaviour is meant to have a function by contributing to the survival of the species. However, humans have leisure time, free time beyond the demands of survival."

Kaplan has also discovered that coupling or "pair bonding" between magpies varies as much as it does in humans. There are monogamous magpies and others who are hopelessly promiscuous. One similarity among all magpie males, however, seems to be a thriftiness in the courtship stakes. The blokes rarely partake of anything more than the most cursory of foreplay.

Kaplan even believes the birds have behavioural mechanisms for breaking up. "Although there is no published evidence of magpie 'divorces' - let alone the possible reason for them - my own anecdotal evidence suggests that they do exist," Kaplan writes.

Looks like you edited your post but forgot the "I". What else did it say?
It isn't nonsense. It is the truth.
We think differently. We always will because of our diverse backgrounds. Doesn't make either right or wrong, it just is.

I edited just to fix the sentence. I have no idea why the 'I' is there and did notice it but since I'm typing on my phone and sometimes it's a pain in the butt so I didn't bother going back again just to delete it. Lol

So are you saying that everyone who is from the country rejoices at the thought of killing animals, as many animals as possible, on the roads? No, that's not true. And everyone who lives in urban areas is strongly against the killing of wildlife? That's not true either. That's an excuse and an easy way to justify your attitude and your beliefs, instead of having to examine them.

It's not about being from the city or the country. Sure, maybe being from the country means the default mentality comes from a culture that is traditionally not very concerned about wildlife, particularly the species they see as pests or whatever, so it's easy to think it's necessary and those silly city people just don't know what they're talking about.

First of all, that's not even true because we Co-exist with a few species who've adapted very well and thrive in urban areas, like raccoons, skunks, coyotes. There are people who think the only thing to do is to kill any of them and there are others who think they have just as much of a right to live here than we do so we have a duty to come up with ways to Co-exist.

I've Co-existed with skunks in a few places, both here and in Montreal. My dogs been sprayed about 4-5 times, (some worse than others lol) and it really really really Fucking sucks when she manages to get herself sprayed again but that's life. I've never even thought of killing skunks and I was shocked looking at traps made for that reason. I mean, how Fucking lazy, entitled, arrogant and heartless can people get? 'Oh skunks are inconvenient and I don't want have to change even small things in the way I do things so let's just kill them?' wtf?

My mother lives in the country. She grew up on a farm. In between that, she lived in the city. A few years back she got invaded by some really pushy and crafty squirrels. And destructive little buggers too! They would destroy the Window screen, get into the house and have all their buddies over for a party.

My mom got everything fixed - including the screen several times - but they knew how to do it again so they repeatedly broke in and caused havoc. They were loud as hell too. They'd hang out in the tree and 'yelled' at us as if we were the ones who had broken into their home. They were cocky!!

Some people would have set poison or lethal traps the first time they broke in, maybe even before just in case some squirrels might have the idea at some point.. Some people would have waited until it was clear they were recidivists and then would have decided to kill them.

My mother, from the country and living in the country, trapped them (alive) one by one and released them to a forested area that was not near any residential area. That's just an example and I'm not saying that's the only solution but that from the beginning people have a choice in how they respond. I'm saying it's easy to just kill and be done with it but that's not because a person is from the country.

What I am saying is that being from the country doesn't explain or justify having a callous disrespect for non human life, nor does it excuse choosing to use lethal ways to deal with situations or justifying ones complacency and decision not to challenge outdated views and attitudes by claiming it's a 'country thing'. That's a personal value and belief, it's not a 'country' thing or a 'city' thing, it is a personal choice.

It is about assuming that it's best because it's 'always been done that way'.

Nonsense. Want me to say it again? Ok.... Nonsense. Lol
