interesting idea.. though if you were taken by someone and they saw the text they would likely force you to respond to it saying you are ok, even if you aren't. This is, of course, an extreme circumstance though.

I like it conceptually!
In which case, having a predetermined code or word that you either include (or leave out) if you are in danger would provide the necessary hidden alert. Good idea overall.

If I was a woman or a child, the Check-In Word and Duress Code would both be set. Check-In Word can be as simple as "shower", Duress Code should be the sort of word a person would expect to be a pass code. So, "safe", "home", "OK", etc. would be Duress Codes. Like all apps, if you don't tell the app where you are going, that is the time that you really needed the app. If I was a woman, I would be working in 1 hour blocks at the maximum. So, traveling to Hope would have a check in at 200th Street in Langley and then an arrival check in.

on thinking it all over, the kind of person that would properly use this app likely doesn't need it - because they have built safety into their daytime (and especially nightime) routines already

but the type of woman that can't even keep track of her birth control pills, who could really use it, won't - at least not properly

just sayin' :)

well, no, its not a reminder note... it sends the distress if you dont check in at all which is the difference between it and similar apps before it that would send a distress call out given a specific action. Personally, I think it is also for the kind of girl or whoever that likes having their bases covered...
