@the Meat Market!!!lol
so, this came to me from an sp who didn't want to report herself.

there is NO vancouver police task force on prostitution and certainly no joint effort with edmonton. please remember ladies and do not fall into this trap. he wants to get into your place and then will undoubtedly ask for service to not "report" you.

if you are an indy worker working from home you are NOT breaking any laws. any claim of being police or charges being possible are a lie. if this guy really had a warrant to serve, he would have been at her door with a bunch of officers.

here's the message;

Hi Susi,

In light of the recent events the call I just received creeped me out, and I figured you would be the person to mention it to. The person called from an Edmonton number (760)705-8888 this number doesn't work to call back. The person sounded in their 40s, and it sounded like there was a bit of background noise. He started the conversation off by saying that he was calling from the VPD task force and had complaints about a prostitution ring and that he would like to ask me questions about that. I right away called him on the fact that it was an Edmonton number and then he said that it was the Edmonton joint task force and had to cooperate with them and that he had a search warrant to come search my property. He was very official sounding.. calling me m'aam. I told him that he was full of it and that someone was prank calling and I hung up. I tried to call the number back, as I was going to threaten him with the actual police..but it says the call won't go through. This was very creepy.

I got a call from that same number at 8:37 pm, just checked my missed calls this morning, since had an eventful evening. I have it in my phone as google voice, so I never answer it .. obviously it's someone that's reading this board.

If this hasn't already been reported to the police, I think it is very important that it should be.

Impersonating a police officer could cause all kinds of trouble and I'm pretty sure they would be keen to address this.

No google doesn't give a crap, tried it before and getting in touch with an actual person is like pulling teeth actually.
There is a big difference between you requesting the release of the information and a government agency requesting the release though.

How can you tell if someone is calling from google talk? Is it always that same number?
What number will show in caller ID when I place calls?

If you are utilizing a Google Voice account with the same username as your Gmail account, then your Google Voice number will show in caller ID to those you call.

If you do not use Google Voice, then (760) 705-8888 will show to those you call in caller ID. You can upgrade to a full Google Voice account for free if you are in the United States and pick a new number to display to those you call.

And trying to get a number to talk to an acutal person at google, unless you're running an adwords campaign and they call you .. is like pulling teeth as I stated above.

*RCMP from your mobile phone will lodge a complaint about the last incoming call and *57 from a landline does the same thing.

*57 will record the number, but you must then make a complaint giving the time and date of the call to LE and the police deals directly with the phone company then. You will not know who made the call as a rule.

BUT

The onus is on them to follow it up. Trust me, they have the tools. There is no anonymity if you are being a Dick on the phone. LEO do have the way to track down the offenders. It's in the CRTC and FCC laws.

True, but it is important that it be understood that just the mere use of *57 alone won't set anything in motion automatically. You must then contact law enforcement with the details of the complaint. Only then do they contact the phone company to obtain number. In this instance the number is known so is only an aside bit of info regarding blocked numbers. In order to obtain info from google the LE would subpoena the info if they chose to proceed on a report such as this one is.

I thought the police were not too involved in the circuits out here, I thought bodies and drugs were the biggies up here.
