I was driving in North Van this late evening at the posted speed limit of 50km/hr when suddenly appeared 2 teen girls racing across the dimly lit street. I had to jam on the brakes and skidded to a stop to prevent them from being hit.

They ran to the parking lot of the McDonald's and I drove in after them. I got out of the car (so did my S.O.) and started yelling at them to not do that because they are risking their lives and my future welfare should I have hit them. Of course being teenagers they gave me the finger, to which my S.O. took offense to. She does not like rebellious kids, especially those who are disrespectful of adults. So she starts yelling at them too. Neither of us used swear words... but guess what these little (caucasian) bitches said to her in return? "GO BACK WHERE YOU CAME FROM".

I was so shocked to hear that. Not thinking, I ran after them but I heard my S.O. cautioning me to come back. I'm glad I listened to her or I'd be in big trouble because I was seething with anger.

What the hell has happened to kids?? Why are they so disrespectful and indignant?

It seems to me that teenagers have outgrown being just "teen" and are adopting poor adult behaviors. You can't choose to act like an adult without the responsibility of one. Time to stop coddling teenagers and make them fully liable as adults in every legal sense of the word. Fucking piece of shit kids.

What an awful and insensitive thing to say. Perhaps they have no creative or actual reason to back up any of their claims/actions. Unfortunately, the race card is an easy insult to jam out of their holes in a quick fashion.

Although, there is not much they can do because these kid's parents are the ones to blame for that behaviour. As I have said before in a different thread, shitty parents have shitty kids. It goes on and on like a bad sickness. At that age, they have already formed their personalities and their behaviour is already set.

It also reflects poorly on our educational system in that the teachers have failed to instil the proper level of respect and tolerance for their fellow human beings. I think these kids are in the minority though. The majority of the ones I have dealt with are much more respectful.

I can't agree with you more!

Kids today think they can get away with many things because they cannot be prosecuted.

I hate the kids these days.

kids these days

When I was a kid in the 60's the adults around me were always bitching about "the kids these days".

When I was in my 20's I vowed never to become one of those old farts who bitches about "the kids these days".

Now that I'm in my mid-fifties I constantly find myself surprised at how great most of the "kids these days" are.

And yeah, of course, you run into some jerks, and those are the ones you notice the most.

lol... I am only 27 and already bitching about "the kids these days".

Well, I guess you are right. we run into some jerks once in a while, and those are the ones we notice the most. Damn, if my kids will be like that, I'll send them to military school.

I've been bitching and complaining about "the kids these days" ever since I was one of them! Seriously though, the big problem with them (or at least the problem with the ones that have a problem in the first place - MissingOne is right that most of them are basically good) is that they have no concept of consequences. Why do they have no concept of consequences you might ask? Because there never are any bloody consequences for anything they do wrong!

You are quite right souljacker. Of course there are also very few serious consequences (here in Canada anyways), for adults who do crimes.

Precisely! I'm sure the middle-aged/older Romans bitched and complained about "kids these days". Hell, probably the same was true of cavemen. And every other friggin' generation in the history of the world. It goes with the territory. We resent growing old and so we resent those who have their whole lives ahead of them. Teenagers are the easiest target because so many of them (no doubt true of every generation that's ever been) ARE jerks. "Youth is wasted on the young!" "Why in my day .... etc. etc." Yadda yadda yadda. We're all going to be reincarnated. We're all going to be young again. Lots of older people will despise us. Get over it.

I think it all boils down to the parents. The apple never falls far from the tree. I knew some teens that behaved perfectly when their parents were around. The problem is the 'rents were working so much, the teens were always fucking around! I find if not brought up with lots of love and of course *discipline*, they're gonna get up and do things you don't want. They have to be taught the value of respect. And that is the one trait I find most lacking recently.

Being a complete asshole is cool nowadays-Howard Stern for example, a couple of hundred million and his only talents are swearing and insulting people. Or any potty-mouthed rapper whose every second word is "muthafucka".
A lot of it is the parents' fault too, there are so many families where both parents work and kids have NO guidance whatsoever. Mommy and Daddy are both burnt out and can't be bothered having anything to do with the kids so they just run amok. Teachers may be overpaid lazy bums but it is not realistic to expect them to turn vicious little animals into model citizens when they get no backup from parents.

Well, I do recall that when I was a kid corporal punishment got my attention when nothing else did.

Can't blame teachers...

Our teachers have no power to discipline students and it is the responsibility of the parents to instill proper values and respect... it irritates me to know that people still believe our educators should also be the parents. You couldn't pay me enough to try to teach a class of 30 grade 8 students.
I agree that most teens are great... but the few bad ones are really bad. They are fully aware that they can get away with just about anything and I think that they should have to take more responsibility for their actions. In regards to the other thread on this topic... when I was 14, I was mature enough to know right from wrong. That doesn't mean that I didn't make the same stupid mistakes most teens make and learn from, but when it comes to serious and repeat crimes, I think that you should be held responsible.
We are such a busy, over worked society... it's a shame that there often isn't enough time available to devote to our families the way it is needed.
When I decided to get a dog, the breeder I went with screened me to ensure that I would be a good owner. Funny isn't it that I would be screened for a puppy, yet anyone can have a kid?? I'm not suggesting that we start deciding who should be parents, just thought it was kind of interesting.

By and large its been my experience the kids nowadays are far better educated and tolerant of others than they were in my generation. Older folks have always complained about "the kids nowadays".

Yet at the same time teachers insist on teaching a pro-gay lifestyle, tolerance for different ethnicities, non-bullying behaviour, feminism, critical thinking, questioning authority, sexual practices, and other forms of social engineering. Often the result is a tolerance for poor social values vis-a-vis popular culture (ie: violent rap music), subversion of authority, disrespect of adults, etc.

Educators want to teach social values but don't want the responsibility of parenting. They implicitly purport to have higher moral values than the parents of the students they teach.

I agree that teachers should get out of parenting, but they should get out of it altogether which means getting out of teaching social values. Teachers need to focus on education, and the only kind of education they are paid to deliver is an academic one - not the politically driven ideology of their "Federation".

In my day, the school had the "strap". My friends and I would not dare say the "F" word in school or at home. We watched Giligan's Island and the Brady Bunch Show. Will these children be our future leaders, Our company manager one day? Let's hope not
