We are such a busy, over worked society... it's a shame that there often isn't enough time available to devote to our families the way it is needed.
When I decided to get a dog, the breeder I went with screened me to ensure that I would be a good owner. Funny isn't it that I would be screened for a puppy, yet anyone can have a kid?? I'm not suggesting that we start deciding who should be parents, just thought it was kind of interesting.
So true. And why do we work so fukkin' hard? I can't figure out why so many of us make like fukkin' hamsters on the wheel all the fukkin' time. Vancouver already rates at, or near, the top in every global survey of living conditions so, I repeat, why do we devote so much time to working our asses off? To acquire even more stuff? Meanwhile important shit like parenting is left undone and we wonder why things are starting to go to hell.

Dude, you sound like a grumpy old man.

Wow, a couple of girls ran in front of your car. Big deal. Is that the worst thing that happened to you that day?

Then you drove after the girls and yelled at them. Good for them for giving you the finger. Are you traffic cop? Do you tell people when they park too far from the curb too?

So they made a slightly racist comment. Theyre guilty of poor judgement in that - maybe they are racist - but probably they just couldnt thing of anything clever to say because some idiot was yelling at them.

I was driving in North Van this late evening at the posted speed limit of 50km/hr when suddenly appeared 2 teen girls racing across the dimly lit street. I had to jam on the brakes and skidded to a stop to prevent them from being hit.

They ran to the parking lot of the McDonald's and I drove in after them. I got out of the car (so did my S.O.) and started yelling at them to not do that because they are risking their lives and my future welfare should I have hit them. Of course being teenagers they gave me the finger, to which my S.O. took offense to. She does not like rebellious kids, especially those who are disrespectful of adults. So she starts yelling at them too. Neither of us used swear words... but guess what these little (caucasian) bitches said to her in return? "GO BACK WHERE YOU CAME FROM".

I was so shocked to hear that. Not thinking, I ran after them but I heard my S.O. cautioning me to come back. I'm glad I listened to her or I'd be in big trouble because I was seething with anger.

What the hell has happened to kids?? Why are they so disrespectful and indignant?

It seems to me that teenagers have outgrown being just "teen" and are adopting poor adult behaviors. You can't choose to act like an adult without the responsibility of one. Time to stop coddling teenagers and make them fully liable as adults in every legal sense of the word. Fucking piece of shit kids.

It also reflects poorly on our educational system in that the teachers have failed to instil the proper level of respect and tolerance for their fellow human beings. I think these kids are in the minority though. The majority of the ones I have dealt with are much more respectful.
Reflects more on PARENTS ... who can discipline certain students who know that they can ruin a person's career with just a hint of an accusation that they were 'touched' or 'abused' or disciplined inappropriately. Society has handcuffed everyone in this.

Gbm

"Educators want to teach social values but don't want the responsibility of parenting. They implicitly purport to have higher moral values than the parents of the students they teach."

What a pathetically ignorant statement, GBM!!! You have absolutely no idea of the dynamics involved with regard to students, educators, and parents.

Great insight! :)
I concur. Lauren's intelligence is a big reason why she's one of my favorite SPs...that, and because she's sweet, beautiful and can make a eunuch have an intense orgasm! ;)

Uhm...anyway, My take on this issue:

Society has shifted its collective child-rearing methologies from hardline discipline to child worship syndrome.
Teachers are unable to keep a kid in line anymore without the risk of that kid deciding to make a vengeful sexual abuse claim. Because even if that teacher is innocent the damage is done and the career is ruined.
Parents are instructed to spare the rod and let their little spawn run amock because it "builds character".
If parents don't spare the rod then the authorities take the kids away.
Children are no longer "to be seen and not heard"...instead they are now little gods and goddesses who get what they want.
They are now "little miracles" - and since when is 7 billion people being born on the planet considered a "miracle"?
They are raised to believe that parents and teachers are your playtime friends, and not elders to be obeyed and respected.
The end result is a couple of generations of spoiled brats with delusions of entitlement.

I say a couple of generations because just a couple of short decades ago I reared by old-school discipline. My old man did not hesitate to give me a sound ass-kicking if I was out of line, and getting the strap by the school principal was not unheardof. I would never have dared say things to adults that I see kids today spouting off at their parents and teachers, otherwise I had my mouth washed with soap. Such disciplinary practices today would have police and social service agents kicking down the door.

Parenting is often poor and the psychiatric community is usually misguided...

There are too many phony medical syndromes, the drug companies and psychiatrists are getting rich at the expense of the mental and physical health of children, children are being poisoned by prescription psychotropic drugs, and parents are enabling and reinforcing irresponsibility in children. Children are allowed and encouraged by parents to make excuses for inappropriate behaviors instead of having their behaviors appropriately shaped.

EXACTLY!!! my neighbours have two boys who are holy-fucking-terrors and not one ounce of discipline over there and they have FOUR adults watching over them!

and I'm not saying beat the piss out of them, but using the word 'no!' and time-outs and maybe one smack on the ass if necessary, but these idiots stand around looking lost while these little bastards run rampant ...

by the time they get to school the teachers haven't got a hope in hell with them ...

the only good thing is that when these kids 'grow up' and have to care for their parents, they will make the worst of us look good in comparison.

Obviously GBM feels that he has a social right to inform these kids that they made a mistake by running in front of his vehicle. Unfortunatly I doubt if any teen or adult would have responded well to his yelling at them, telling them the error of their ways. People be they teens or adult do not like to be informed that they screwed up. This is a case where GBM should have thanked his lucky stars that he missed them and gone along his way.

I agree, Metoo113. The same ignorance that made GBM think that chasing after and yelling at kids will get him anywhere can be seen in his distorted thinking process in blaming teachers for kids' aberrant behaviors.

That they don't listen is their fault, not mine. That I was giving them what is good advice - not running in front of vehicles - benefits them more than the drivers who might injure them. Because they can't stand an adult yelling at them is due to their own ignorance, rebelliousness, and sheer pig-headedness. That their last resort was to make a racially insulting remark shows their very low level of intelligence. I do not deserve any criticism whatsoever here, for I was not the one who did anything wrong but only resolved to set things right. It was they who put their lives in peril and my welfare as well.

Like the old saw goes: it takes a village to raise a child. Parents can't see all and do all, and we should all step up when we see a little shit get too mighty for his britches.

Needed some blank DVDs today, so went to Future Shop. As I'm walking up the sidewalk on the way to the store, a guy signals and pulls up alongside the vehicle in front to parallel park into the spot behind. But a car full of teens pulled headfirst into the spot before he starts backing up. When he gets out to protest the kids tell him to go fuck himself..."you snooze, you lose, grandpa!" (he was maybe 35) "whatcha gonna do? you wanna fucking go?"...all that bullshit.

I thought of this thread.

There are definitely a lot of "piece of shit kids" out there. Hopefully they don't all become piece of shit adults.

Children!

Mirror people actions. If you have children it is easier to understand.I have a child, and have been a single mother there is a lot of peer pressure out there. If a parent really cares about their child in a academic environment. The parent will win because the parent cares.A teacher can not read a parent mind. The longuest day of the year is June 21/06 the sun sets.I feel that if a child is out after dark the child is looking to get oneself into mischief.I do agree with the latter that people should be screened to have children.I do not think it will be happening anytime soon.I am sure it would problem solve many issues.Children sponge the behavior that they are surrounded by.This is my Humble Opinion.I do believe "respect" is a very important value to teach your child.Respect yourself-Respect others-Respect the propriety of others. This should be taught by the get go.

I know it was two teens that did these actions and many posters seem to be slaming teens in this thread, but as I said in my previous post, I doubt if GBM would have received a better respose if it had been adults doing the stupid act. Both adults and teens hate to have the error of their ways pointed out to them. Plus yelling at someone because your pissed that you almost killed them is certainly a human response, but it will never accomplish anything. Most people don't like being yelled at and will respond in kind.
