I understand, but so what?

If I kill with an accomplice, does that make me less guilty?
Yes. Consider yourself out on the town with a buddy that is intent on killing just somebody or somebody specific. You don't know this, you're just there for the ride. He finds his victim, picks the person up, kills in your presence and then convinces you to help cover up. Tag you it.

As to "others" being prosecuted, who knows, it's a matter of being able to prove the charge. Remember, his brother was originally a suspect and one of the witnessess, Casanova had previously been arrested in connection with this but was released due to insufficient evidence.

50 times in a row ? LOL. I am trying to imagine and find it interesting.

I must be pretty naive having seen 29 dead bodies, going out with the same buddy and not suspecting that he is going to murder the 30th victim......

But the difference between 1st and 2nd degree murder is supposed to be premeditation or not. Says nothing about accomplices.

Intent is the issue in this case, and the burden of proof is, did Pickton go out on any specific day/night with the intent of murdering a specific person, or even of committing murder ? After all, not every woman he took back to the farm ended up dead.

This is just as fucked up as the O.J. case. He is innocent, but found guilty in the death of his wife....

Pickton has very good lawyers. They will make sure he won't be in jail for a long time.

His farm is worth over 6 million. The greedy lawyers would defend Satan for that kind of money.

Oh, well, too bad he didn't write a blog about his feelings when he went to pick up the women so we would know FOR SURE he acted deliberately.

Obviously the witnesses testimony wasn't good enough to prove him guilty.... AND his own admission of having murdered 49 women to his room mate in jail!

You got it, sort of. It was good enough for 2nd degree murder, not 1st degree.

Oh well, I think these women were considered throw-away trash. The police was glad there was one less when they disappeared one-by-one.

Sorry, but looking at the whole case and the outcome this is how I see it.

That's the stupidest fucking thing I've ever read on here.

Certainly, to a large extent, society exacted a crime on the women long before Pickton ever got his hands on them....but your statement is assinine.

As for the verdict - First Degree murder is extremely hard to make stick, legally speaking. Remember, we do not have a justice system, we have a legal system that does its best to administer justice.

Given the nature of the crimes and the location, it's not surprising there wasn't enough evidence to convict on first degree.

I am sure had there been a rich woman, a celebrity or a judge's relative among the victims, the first degree murder would have stuck a lot easier ;)

I think that tedsweettangv's post makes the most sense and would suggest you reread it.

I have reread it. It doesn't make sense. In this case Jack The Ripper would get 2nd degree murder, because he killed random victims.

Then he may very well have been if he was tried in this day and age. Your point is otherwise irrelevant.

Not quite. He premeditated the murder, he just didn't know who it will be.
Ooo, you're so close.

The little hamster is running; the wheel is spinning.

But don't let it stop, man. You're almost there. Just keep thinking about it.

You can do it; I have faith.

It would be nice to talk to people who argue with the subject instead of insulting me, but I realize I can't have everything :)

Don't make ridiculous, inflammatory, uninformed comments, and perhaps you will get a better response.

Duh.
