Just noted a new petition on change.org started by Sonia von Sacher, apparently a Montreal sex worker of some repute. She does not have a lot of signatures yet, but I am sure she would like many more. Can perb members help? Perhaps someone more computer savvy could provide a more direct link.

I can't see the Libs doing for prostitution what they did for pot, unfortunately :(
High likelihood of alienating voters and very few coters will vote Lib because of it.
Elections are about “not losing” rather than winning.

True, given that most younger guys aren't fans of Trudeau and the older middle-class women tend to vote Liberal, it's definitely not in their interest.

Younger guys are most of the market, while older middle-class women probably would be happy to keep it banned.

This crusade against SW's is hypocrisy, a weird alliance of both right and left wing puritans to stamp out a naturally enjoyable act between consenting adults.
Literally millions are in the grip of addictions that impoverish people and hasten them into the grave, and that's the thing that want to legalize?
Meanwhile, disaster hits society on every other front, and they just dither & deflect.

Every part of the political spectrum here has failed society and sold out whatever once passed for their principles. Or just warped their beliefs to the point where absurd contradictions no longer matter to their activists.

Politicians don't want any competition in the market for fucking the taxpayers.
I think you'll find the real competition is between big business and organized crime, which are more and more the same thing.
Politicians try to serve whatever faction among that which brought them into prominence.
A few try to be better than that, but are up against a huge machine which does not like when principles contend against marketing.
Understand that politics is a huge machine, and the political parties & candidates are just a small part of it.

Yep, definitely some weird priorities. In places like Vancouver or Toronto, things are really starting to fall apart :(

Harper should have just passed regulating the industry down to the provinces to sort out. Make it a tax and health issue.

@the Meat Market!!!lol
Vancouver and all of BC have defacto decrim so I would not lump us in with cities like Toronto. At least here we don't have to fear blanket enforcement....

This idea that Vancouver is falling apart is a lie, it's fear mongering meant to make you jump on the "law and order" bandwagon....

These issues of homelessness have existed here for more than a century.... I have seen city council meeting minutes from 1897 which have at the top of the agenda..... you guessed it.... issues within a tent city (kitsalano) and 6000 units of emergency housing.....

we are lucky here, luckier than anywhere else in the country.

I signed this, but why are we not aiming for legalization, or are we taking Baby steps with decriminalization first?

It is my understanding that decriminalization is preferable to legalization, as with the latter, the government takes over and sets up more hoops to jump through.
As when cannabis was legalized rather than simply decriminalized.

Hmm well that's one con, but I can imagine the pros requiring both sides being in good standing in some way.

Okay so sex workers want decrimialization , we had legalization before and 3 serial killers in Vancouver alone so...not really working for us here.....

As far as mandatory testing etc.... not so much....you should be using a condom anyway people....we can educate both buyers and providers about getting tested and we have very low rates of HIV here for example as a result, but forcing people is not really legal and from the experts - does not contribute to better health outcomes....

That would be amazing if they did that. If they can decriminalize heroin and cocaine and all of the terrible drugs that cause so much devastation, sex work would be nice to be next on the list.

Government is looking for ways to improve income.
They have already legalized SP, but the rules attached to the sex industry, make it tough for the SP to conduct business. Its only legal as it is now, in order to get the income from taxes.

As for legalizing cocaine and heroin, its really to make room for taxes on these drugs. Tax the drug cartels and take more of the violence out of the world. And get a hefty 20-30% cut at the end user. Along with getting rid of the really toxic stuff people cut the drugs with.

Cocaine is the party drug. Heroin is the pain drug. Tells us something about our society that people need drugs to deal with everyday life, on how pathetic our Canadian Society really is.

How Pathetic is the individual that needs drugs to go about everyday life... So fucken sad.....

Wonder why those addicts overdose so much. And some good Samaritan has to pull them back from the brink of death....

I think Canada need a 3 strikes and your not going to be resuscitated rule.... Then they just become a statistic....

I mean people watch reality TV too much, over and over and over again. Imagine our society pulling the overdose addict back from the brink over and over and over again. Its painful/numbing for the people that have to watch these people overdose.
We spend millions of dollars on overdose kits. It is recommended that we all carry an overdose kit (naloxone) in our cars.... fuck that.....

If addicts want to overdose, then let them die. The only reason to save them is to make yourself feel better....

So you saved a life.... The addict overdoses again... What you did was pointless and maybe even selfish.... Because the addict dosen't care except for the next high....

This is selfish wokness at its worse.....

Ahh... the revenue stream, money coming in from peoples' indulgences..... Jesus would think the extra tax on alcohol in BC would balance the budget, no wonder every one got auto rebate back....
