This is an organization that is very vegatarian-which is fine, I just watched the News, and they have billboards in Vancouver that now have a pic of a victim of that serial killer next to a pig for not to eat ANIMALS. Ads out of Montreal-one of the Victims Mothers justifably is POSSESSED! I cannot believe this is happening. Please protest this to your MLA, Premier or whoever. This is repugnant- of the most VILE!

Even though I eat meat, I often ponder the murder of animals for our consumption. Animals should have rights, they are anatomically close to use humans, as is demonstrated in pig organ transplants and dermatology testing. Yet we slaughter them without regard for their pain. I feel horrible about the Mad Cow disease and bird flu that has caused a recent slaughter of animals that MAY BE infected. They lived and died for nothing!
At least there should be some new methods of humane slaughtering techniques. I like meat and I don't plan to stop eating it but if one company started advertising "humanely killed to peta standards", it would take off much like organic has. And it's all I would ever buy!

PETA has done some pretty stupid stuff, I've not seen the new adds but man if they are as described talk about stupid... I'm a pretty big animal lover but seriously people.... I've never had much respect for PETA and well now less...

I'm a member of PETA and I disagree with a lot of what they do - but they do get reactions, don't they? The way food animals are treated and processed is truly horrific and nauseating, but the visceral reaction to these ads is easier than looking into how your meat is produced. The nice, neat wrapped package in the store was once a living animal - it's just easier to not think about that when you slap it on the grill. For anyone that doesn't like the current billboards - they are NOT in Vancouver, by the way - log onto the PETA website and protest directly. That's what I do when I think they have stepped over the line and are turning people off more than making them think about the inhumane ways chicken, beef and pork is produced. Also do a little digging into how animals are treated in the food industry and then see how well your appetite holds up for meat. And I do eat some meat - I'm just choosy about where and how it's produced. These industries aren't only cruel - they're also dangerous to our health, as we're beginning to see.
PETA is a cheap stunt group which loves the free publicity it gets for their crass and insensitive promotions. They are not above using the grief and pain of Picton's victims' surviving families to advance their own interests. An earlier billboard in Boston called "Holocaust on your plate" compared the suffering of cattle to that of Jews under Nazi Germany.

I'm all for the humane treatment of animals but I think PETA's tactics are counter productive and actually harm and slow the changes to the way animals are treated. Because the terms PETA and Animal Rights are so closely associated they end up tainting the words Animal Rights Activist and make it more difficult for more moderate groups to be taken seriously. After some of the stunts they have pulled like throwing red paint on people who wear fur coats I think of PETA more as a terrorist organization. Then there are the members who poison the turkeys that are sent to stores. Terrorism can never be justified in my mind therefore I won't even listen to whatever message they are trying to convey.
Interesting point, they do met my criteria for terrorists, and just so you know that is "anyone who thinks they can do something that might hurt another person because they are serving a higher good" too many wrongs have been commited by people who justify their actions by saying they answer to a higher calling, a more important moral code, it's all crap IMHO.sirlickheralot said:

Responding to a controversial ad campaign that appears to exploits the murder of women in B.C., Prime Minister Paul Martin called them unacceptable.
The billboards, paid for by the U.S.-based People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, went up in Toronto and Edmonton this week.
Designed to promote PETA's anti-meat campaign, the larger-than-life billboard shows the face of a haggard young woman on one side and a pig's face on the other. Between the two is the blunt slogan: "Neither Of Us Is Meat."
Interpreted as a reference to the case of Robert Pickton, the B.C. man charged in the deaths of 15 women on his farm, the campaign has sparked condemnation from victims' families.
Martin has joined the chorus of criticism. Describing his revulsion at the campaign, the PM said there may be ways to support a cause, but this isn't one of them.
"Those ads are simply unacceptable,'' Martin said in Quebec.
"When you think of the terrible, terrible trauma that affected all of those women in British Columbia, when you think of what those families are going through right now -- that kind of publicity is just not acceptable.''
In response, PETA said, "We can't imagine that Mr. Martin has seen the ad, since the ad clearly represents both humans and other animals as deserving of our respect and empathy.''
Marylynne Craft, whose daughter Cindy Felix is listed among the murders that Pickton is charged with, says she's furious.
"It makes me sick to my stomach," she told CTV News. "It doesn't exactly say 'Vancouver prostitute' and 'Pickton pig.' But is might as well."
The Advertising Council of Canada, which does not pre-screen print ads, says it takes formal complaints from the public to kickstart censure of controversial advertising.
PETA has made a name for itself since its founding in 1980 for its shock-value ad campaigns denouncing the eating of meat and other animal foods. The group enraged residents in Des Moines, Iowa a decade ago when it ran ads in local newspapers comparing meat eaters to convicted serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer.
Late last year, the animal rights activists tried to run an advertisement in a Vancouver newspaper linking the slaughter of animals and acts of violence against people.
Family of the victims expressed their disgust at the time, prompting two newspapers to refuse to run the ads.
