Even though I eat meat, I often ponder the murder of animals for our consumption. Animals should have rights, they are anatomically close to use humans, as is demonstrated in pig organ transplants and dermatology testing. Yet we slaughter them without regard for their pain. I feel horrible about the Mad Cow disease and bird flu that has caused a recent slaughter of animals that MAY BE infected. They lived and died for nothing!
Humans are also consumed by some on a regular basis, but of course this number is not anywhere close to that of animals. But don't worry about the animals, as they know how their lives are going to end before coming to being.

At least there should be some new methods of humane slaughtering techniques. I like meat and I don't plan to stop eating it but if one company started advertising "humanely killed to peta standards", it would take off much like organic has. And it's all I would ever buy!
Do you mean euthanasia and the like? :)

Thank you Makhno for posting the picture because I could not exactly from the first post figure out what was going on. Who is the girl in the poster? Was she actually killed or is she simply a model for the poster?

Of course one can argue that if it were the first case, then those directly concerned can express themselves if they want, but it's really none of the rest of people's business, no? If they start a boycott or let their emotions control them or whatever, I certainly won't be one to join them. It's irrelevant whether or not I agree to the issue at hand; if I don't like the billboard or print ads, I will simply avoid them and won't force myself to look at them and then complain that they make me uncomfortable. It's funny because one always a choice in NOT doing anything one doesn't like.

If the girl in the picture only posed for the photograph, what is then the big deal? Even in the CTV news segment posted above, phrases such as "... that appear to exploit..." and "interpreted as a reference to...," are used because they are not exactly objective statements, but rather subjective opinions of certain people.

I do think, however, that PETA made an error in that the poster girl is pouting whereas the pig is smiling (?). To positively promote vegetarianism, shouldn't the pig be pouting as well? :D Or are pigs just happy to be raised on vegetarian diet?

By the same analogy, wouldn't that mean the girl is not happy at all being a piece of meat? And that sounds good to me :)

Yes exactly, "just a little pinprick, There'll be no more --Aaaaaahhhhh!". But a drug where the meat is safe for consumption afterwards. Can't they invent that? It probably is invented but it would put the guy with the sledgehammer and the guy with the saw out of work. Damn politics!

For the animals that are "born to die" I am sure they could euthanise or find a more humane way to slaughter than a sledge! I find it pretty gross that the animals are in line watching their fate as well...seems so very cruel.
As for the disgusting billboard...who really cares if it is a victim? It is the implication of the whole thing and is done in PURE BAD TASTE. I am shocked it was allowed to be put up at all! What the F*** is wrong with peoples heads?

PETA is morally bankrupt, and has been for years.

Though I have to say, if I had the choice of kicking a PETA member in the balls, rather than eat a tasty steak, I'd pick the former.

PETA works!

The woman in the photo is a model - she was not a "victim" of anyone.
Ophelia - I thought you were a very compassionate person - does it only extend to people? A society's compassion begins with how it treats its most vulnerable. That includes poor people, elderly, handicapped and animals. Because we are supposedly higher life form we, above all should have the ability to extend compassion to helpless creatures.

Are you saying that she shouldn't kick the PETA member in the balls after all? :D
