Have to agree, Martin is nothing but a grandstanding asshole.
+1 to that.....what is funny is that the guy did this with the reasoning that the Conservatives used their majority to close a bill from further debate....uh...yeah...a majority government can do that...because they are a majority.

I swear the NDP are on dope collectively in their opinion of themselves.....they figure since they formed the opposition and won a record number of seats that they are the next government in waiting....the true fact of the matter is that they split the left vote against the liberals who had a very weak leader and the gains they made were mostly in Quebec and the reason they got those gains was that most Quebecers thought they were voting for Jack Layton.....the sad thing is that a very huge percentage of sitting NDP MP's cant speak french and a larger percentage have no serious experience as politicians. The really nasty stuff will happen during the leadership race.....it will get ugly I am sure....thus far there are 9 candidates and the list will grow longer.

In the next federal election I see the Conservatives winning an even stronger majority whilst the liberals/bloc gain back some ground and all at the expense of the NDP.

Being from the Prairies, I've heard quite a bit about Niki Ashton. From my understanding she is a very strong candidate, with the same positive and ambitious outlook Jack Layton had. I've heard the usual attacks against her age and her gender, but frankly those arguments are getting old.

Ashton is a strong MP but even she has admitted she is a long shot for the leadership. She is running now to raise her profile on the national scene for the future more than any chance of becoming leader of the NDP today. She is way ahead of Martin in brains and class, and I'm by no means an NDP supporter

Without Layton the NDP will certainly drop in the next election.

Paul Dewar would probably be the best bet for the NDP, but as a Conservative I hope Thomas Mulcair is the new leader. I am still crossing my fingers however that Bob (I love deficits) Rae will get into the race.

On a completely un-related note....from looking at your pic Violat......I have the massive desire to nail you from behind whilst you are up against a pool table.

:D The NDP will choose a female leader, probably Peggy Nash. :D
If the NDP do elect a female to lead the party she will be about as effective as Alexa....meaning the party will languish and get now place and sink to 3rd party status with only the votes of the trade unions in Ontairio to get them any seats in Parliament......all good stuff for us right wing folk who vote conservative :thumb:

Are you basing your doubt on the people running who happen to be female or all females in politics? Cause if it's the second one...uh, that's pretty stupid :p

PS. I'm all for fucking on pool tables!...but if this were to happen I think you and I may not want to start talking politics :p

Maybe Pat Martin shouldn't have used the f word, but you can't argue with his point. The Conservatives invoked closure on the budget. That is they stopped debate on our budget. That is what parliament is supposed to do. Do we really live in a democracy when the people we elect are denied the opportunity to speak and question the government of the day in parliament?

Harper talks about democracy yet does the exact opposite himself. The BC Liberals were even worse at closing debate in the legislature and ramming in their bills. Hyprocisy !

Actually I can argue with his point all day long. Did you even read post 12 of this thread?

Peggy Nash http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peggy_Nash is a labor functionary who is using gender and labor political correctness to win the leadership of the NDP. You won't see her making a speech without speaker's notes because there is actually nothing that she believes in enough to be educated on the subject.

Niki Ashton http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Niki_Ashton has a little more depth, but she won't win because she doesn't have enough NDP seniority and she doesn't have labor support.

Don't know much about Peggy Nash, but if what you say is true then that's pretty lame. I hate it when people make a big deal out of things like that, like always pointing out that they're a woman, or they're a visible minority, or whatever the case may be, just to get more public support. That should barely even be mentioned, because that's not why people should vote for you. In fact it really makes the case for women in politics even worse when you have a dingbat up there. However Niki Ashton's only real problem is that she doesn't have enough seniority, you're right, because she's definitely good at what she does, regardless of whether you agree with her views. But her not having seniority has nothing to do with her being a woman.

Niki Ashton is cute as a button but she is far from ready for prime time. She is not a strong debater and would get killed up against Harper. Another problem she has is being a prairie girl. The elites in the 3 major political parties believe that only those with a birth certificate from Quebec or Ontario are worthy of being PM.

Yeah she's only been in the game for a few years, but for that amount of time she's come a long way. However, more experience is always a good idea.

But isn't it about time we had someone representing the rest of Canada? I mean, there is life outside Ontario and Quebec, lol. This notion that a strong and stable leader is a middle-aged married with kids white male from Ontario needs to go, lol. Maybe Niki Ashton isn't quite ready for being Prime Minister, but maybe by the time the next election roles around, she could be. Who knows, but it certainly would be nice to have someone different representing Canada for once. So yeah, maybe she isn't quite ready yet, but you gotta give her credit for trying, because I do see a lot of potential. That's just my opinion anyway :)

I love this guy because he showcases what a joke the NDP party has become. Pat Martin and an acting leader who is a Separatist that can't even speak English.

My prediction of a reining Conservative majority just went from 8 years to 12. :thumb:

To borrow a quote from Martin, you're "lying your ass off" about Turmel and you know it. As for the rest of your post, I think the reply that Martin gave on Twitter to some anonymous person calling themselves SmokeGettingOut is highly indicated.

Pat's an outspoken guy and he's a credit to Canadian politics, unlike the obedient conformists who make up far too much of BC's Conservative backbench.

Take a look at the snow job being done in Abbotsford regarding a P3 water project. It started a few years ago when Ed Fast was still in local government and was on the water board. Now that he's the trade miniter in Ottawa, he's offering millions in federal aid to Abbotsford on the condition that it's a P3 project, zero if it's done as a public project. In addition, he's piloting the CETA treaty which will among other things allow the big European water companies like Veola and Suez access to the Canadian "market" for municipal water services. Once in the door, these companies can sue for millions in supposed lost profits if a municipality gets tired of their ramshackle performance and decides to go back to a public water system.

If you're a Conservative, which I don't doubt, you should be aware that on CBC last night Andrew Coyne said that Martin and others were justifiably angry about the cynical and arrogant abuse of closure. Unfortunately, the lasting impact of Manning on Canadian Conservatism has been to purge that party of its Diefenbaker and Stanfield traditions of respect for Parliament and replace it with more of a WAC Bennett/Pierre E Trudeau approach, in which MPs/MLAs are ridiculed as "nobodies" and informed, deliberative debate is just "political politics" getting in the way of "getting things done". And that's ironic since Manning's original pitch was for more free votes and more power for individual members.

I think Niki is doing the right thing by entering the race, but right now I am kind of tossing a coin between Nathan Cullen and Tom Mulcair. A bilingual environmentalist BC MP who voted against the gun registry would be a huge advantage across the West while holding onto new gains in Quebec, and as for Mulcair it's hard to ignore demonstrated political genius. One seat to 59 is hard to overlook.

How am I wrong on Turmel?

Pat Martin plays well to the the union sheep and all the other parasites of society looking for a government handout. It appears that his profanity laced tirade appeals to his unsophisticated supporters.

I know nothing about this project so someone else on the board will have to prove you wrong.

Who quotes the CBC as a reliable news source? I guess you forgot about the way Jean Chretien and Paul Martin did things back in the day. I wish I could comment on the NDP's record when they had the majority government but.........that has never happened. :pound:

You overlook the fact that the NDP split the leftist vote with the liberals as well as the Bloc.....the reason for that was the 2 pussies the liberals had for the previous federal elections.....good ol ultra pussy stephan dion with his bullshit "green shift" which was a new NEP with a fancy ribbon on the box in the name of saving the environment to pander to the people that have been brainwashed about global warming......next up was ignatieff.....another acedemic who has never done a hard days work in his life and who came across like he was entiteled to live at Sussex Drive.....leading up to the election all he did was say how he was listening to Canadians...well he may have listened but he sure as shit did not hear what Canadians were saying and all the bullshit over some of the stupidest topics in the house of commons was just a waste.....threatening a vote of confidence because Bev Oda wrote the word "not" on a funding request...for fuck sakes the government can say yes or no with regards to whatever group gets funding...that is their job

So in a nutshell the liberals have had 2 academic left wing french pussies decimated in the last 2 elections and with the most recent election the liberal leader did not even win his own seat so the liberals are pretty much fucked...there is talk of justin trudeau going for the leadership but in reality that is a fools hope.

With regards to the NDP.....the reason they made the gains they did in the last election was due to 1 person....Jack Layton.....the guy ran a solid campaign and he was smart and he also had good handlers as well as good spin doctors....he appealed to and got hold of a lot of voters in Quebec that had grown tired of the Bloc and he turned it into a huge change for both that province and his party......come the next election I think it will change a great deal.

As for the Conservatives getting closure on any bill....or bringing forth any bill in the house of commons...well they can do that as they are the government that has a solid majority.....it is not undemocratic.....the public voted them in and they have a mandate......for the opposition parties and any member of those parties to whine and complain that they dont get to choose the course of governance of this country is ridiculous as they were not chosen by the people to do so.

The Government of Canada can operate without copyright and human smuggling legislation. The crime bills were all presented in the previous two parliaments and have been debated and committee oversighted to death. There are no surprises in the crime bills, it's just that the NDP will never support them and wants to use delay as a tool while they find a leader and try to drum up public support for their position.
Really? Not according to the Canadian Bar association. They have many complaints including it was a rush job.

2. Rush job. Instead of receiving a thorough review, Bill C-10 is being rushed through Parliament purely to meet the "100-day passage" promise from the last election. Expert witnesses attempting to comment on over 150 pages of legislation in committee hearings are cut off mid-sentence after just five minutes.

The Government of Canada cannot operate without a budget. The May election was because the opposition used the budget debate as a tool to force an election. The budget was an election issue and is currently before the house essentially unchanged from what was presented in May.
Parliament is different than before the last election. There are many new MPs, so all bills that died have to be re-introduced and that means debated again. Cons have a majority so there is no reason to invoke closure. That is undemocratic anyway you look at it, regardless of your political stripe.
