U2 - one bass player and one lead guitarist plus drums.

Go watch/listen to "It's gonna get loud" with Edge, Jimmy Page and Jack White. You might find out how much Edge brings to the band. Pure genius with guitars and amps. U2 wouldn't be where they are without Edge and Bono's songs.

Beatles are the Gold Standard that every band is compared to and there are none better because they set the bar high for every other band.
Where he basically says his songs are 2 chords and 7,000 delay pedals?

With respect to ONE song. Bit out of context, no?
You have to watch the movie. The amount of effects Edge uses is ridiculous.
The actual point of the movie is the contrast each of their guitar styles and that has been the Edge's effects driven reputation for years. Personally, I would have liked to see someone like Tom Morello with a look at Jimi Hendrix in a documentary like that as well.

And yes you're welcome for the quote and youtube video from the movie "It might get loud" that shows my post =/= BS.

I own the movie.

How else is a three piece band going to make the sounds that they make?

We are not talking about Robert Johnson with a single six string guitar playing the blues here.

When you asked BORKO for proof I thought you hadn't seen the movie. I was just confirming that he does use a lot of effects.

The White Stripes are 2 piece band.

Led Zeppelin is a 4 piece band where there are only 3 musical instruments and 1 vocalist, same as U2.

Florence and the Machine is a 2 piece female band, even more impressive.
Yeah, I used to listen to them. And they made it onto a NFL commercial too.

She and Him is even more impressive because she acts too.

And the Spice Girls are the most impressive because they are an all female band that maxes out girlpower. To the max.

I thought he was great in both but To Have and Have Not is all about Lauren Bacall. Her performance in that is one of the most smoldering in cinematic history. RINGA-DING DING!!!! They sure don't make them like they used to.

Overrated Doobie Brothers song: China Grove (still great song but there are better in their catalogue)
Underrated Doobie Brothers song: South City Midnight Lady

why is this discussion thread slowly becoming about music and bands?

imo, the disparate over/under ratings for bands will never resolve itself
as different age groups will feel strongly about their 'coming of age' decade and fave bands.

some of the list here is laughable though.

For the win!

This debate about music is really quite pointless since everyone here is from different age groups and their likes/dislikes were formed either a long time ago like myself or within the past 3 - 5 years like some of you.

Melody - I just got Joni Mitchell "Blue" on by vinyl because it was a great album from that era. "Being David Geffen" documentary gives a great perspective of the business at that time. Joni's song "A free man in Paris" is about Geffen who was the one who created then ultimately destroyed Asylum records. Dropping everything and going to Paris was part of him recreating himself into a movie mogul.
